Designing a Locally Manufacturable Wheelchair for Nepal
Get PDFPeople with disabilities in developing countries often lack the basic equipment needed to assist them in their daily lives. International Nepal Fellowship (INF) is a Christian medical organization located in Nepal that provides medical care and assistance to people with disabilities and other conditions. Currently, INF imports expensive wheelchairs that undergo a prolonged border process before being received. INF has reached out to the Collaboratory to design a wheelchair that can withstand the challenges of Nepal’s terrain and can be manufactured from local materials. The Nepal Wheelchair team has set out to design a wheelchair that can fulfill their needs. In previous work, the team researched wheelchair designs and took a trip to Nepal. From this trip, more information was gained, an initial prototype was constructed, and locally available materials and parts from Nepal were brought back. This year, as a result of knowledge gained through constructing the second prototype, many design changes were tested and implemented. The team researched standards and created testing procedures to ensure the changes to the rear wheel mount, caster wheel mount, footrest, and seat design would uphold the strength and durability of the wheelchair. These design changes have enhanced patient safety and experience in the wheelchair while still keeping the design easily manufacturable. The team also researched options for adding push rims and through using a roller bender were able to construct them. Moving forward, the team will continue to finalize manufacturing documentation and take a second trip to Nepal this May.

EMMS: Increasing Hope and Transforming Lives Through Improved Access to Electrical Power
Get PDFDeveloping countries often face a challenge involving energy conservation. Energy Monitoring and Management Systems (EMMS) was tasked to make an energy meter in order to provide a practical way of controlling energy consumption and create a tool for teaching energy conservation. This meter should be able to measure energy usage over a period of time and prevent further energy usage after a specified amount has been consumed. In this poster, the team will explain what they have been doing in recent semesters to work towards their goal of testing and preparing this meter for implementation in Zimbabwe this summer, as well as how they have been improving the user experience through website implementation.

• Non-thrust mobilizations (NTM) and Thrust mobilizations (TM) are among the common interventions used in manual therapy in treatment of MNP.
• The evidence accumulated for this clinically appraised topic (CAT) suggests high clinical variability among the effectiveness in NTM and TM among adults with mechanical neck pain
Understanding Existentialism on Stage: The Theatre of the Absurd
Get PDFThe Theatre of the Absurd represents one of the many shifts in the art forms of the second half of the 20th century. In a world that was searching for meaning, the Theatre of the Absurd was able to stage the universal situation of humanity in a new light. The Theatre of the Absurd largely sought to reinterpret several “traditional” conventions of theatre, and in doing so, was able to recontextualize some of the largest questions asked by humanity. Each play slowly shifts the conventions of theatre, as they were traditionally understood by audiences, to change the ways that audiences view the world around them. Overall, the Theatre of the Absurd redefines what so many consider the undefinable, allowing audiences to better negotiate the world around them. The roughly 20 years spanning the entirety of the Theatre of the Absurd represent a brief and bright constellation of plays, consisting of several plays clustered together within recent history. Amidst this constellation, there are some stars that stand out, eventually paving the way for plays to come. Of these brightest stars are Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Religious and Spiritual Implications in Functional Anger
Get PDFThe topic of spirituality has been of interest for many years in the helping professions (Matise et al., 2018; Pargament, 2011). Another level of interest is how spirituality may be connected to anger that is culturally informed (Subarimaniam et al., 2020). This writing approaches the topic of functional anger as impacted by the religious and spiritual beliefs with case vignettes pertinent to students, pastoral counselors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, psychotherapists, and other helping professionals. The topic of spirituality has been of interest for many years in the mental health profession yet is pertinent to all helping professions (Matise et al., 2018; Pargament, 2011). This writing seeks to close the gap between current practices for pastoral helpers, psychologists, clergy, nurses, social workers, and psychotherapists when a client presents with anger that is connected to religious or spiritual beliefs. The context for these topics will be from a spiritually integrated framework that recognizes religious and spirituality as a uniquely held perspective of the client (ACPE, 2019; Jones, 2019; Pargament, 2011). There is no expectation of expertise for any one specific faith tradition and no disrespect intended for religious or spiritual research that has been included in the examples
