LET ME OUT! 
Try all I might, I can’t breathe in here. 
Stale air makes a man’s mouth 100% cotton 
A single drop of water would do me right; 
a flood to ruin Georgia’s harvest would do me best. 
It’d wet this old whistle enough to speak again, but first I need to GET
OUT OF HERE.
And the hunger. 
Constantly teething and gnawing: a real mutt 
Paired with his finest of steak bones; 
my stomach played the part of an ouroboros, but it’s a poor actor — 
its latest gig saw it chewing away every fleck of dandruff. 
I’m naked, ya know? My clothes whittled away by a woodworker’s hands. 
Maybe Saint Peter can send heaven’s holy light 
but noooo, that’d make things a smidge more bearable, huh? 
Not even a skylight? 
Had to be nailed down, nice and tight, like a bug as snug in a rug 
because we can’t be original. 
I’m not a bad tattoo, stop trying so hard to cover me up!
How ‘bought some more wiggle room? 
It’s bad enough to rank amongst ivory in paleness, 
but the groans of my knobbly knees have moans of their own, 
And I’ll need a replacement surgery next September; 
Luckily, the doctor prescribed getmeoutofhererightnow.
There’s earthworms in here, too! They’re doing worm-things around my
orbital bone! 
And the silverbugs inside my femur are setting out a new doormat. 
Don’t care how far you’ve gotta drive to dig me out, a thousand miles or
more

With all the muscles missing from my jaw. 
How hard can it be to find a shovel?! 
GET! ME! OUT OF HERE!
My dear Margaret hasn’t paid me a visit in six months, 
And there aren’t any poppies left to drown out the dank musk. 
No prayers or confessions drill through headstone and casket 
To caress my weary bones — only squirrels chattering about next Spring. 
Please don’t tell me you’ve already forgotten me.

My grandmother was already gone. 
A person is their mind, their heart. 
If the doctors were correct, and we are left only to assume they are, 
then she and her memories were gone before she left. 
Is that better? Is it worse? 
There was one who wondered 
what she could’ve done better, 
or the one who only thought of herself to blame, 
or the one who sobbed into his mother’s pillow. 
What would we be without her memories and her mind 
without her advice, the pot roast, or the pinching of my cheeks 
But rather, the question now is, what will we do without 
That smile, presence, and soul?

The night stretches long and thick, 
a fog that silently and steadily envelops 
the rugged coast, a damp, heavy cloak 
over our weary hearts. 
We linger in the absence of stars, 
in a silence that echoes deeply. 
It is here we remember— 
the slums of Johannesburg, 
where songs of freedom rose 
against the weight of apartheid’s shadow. 
Even there, hope burned quietly, 
like a candle refusing to die. 
In Belgium, winter winds howled, 
and despair kissed the faces of the forgotten. 
Yet a nurse’s hands healed, 
and her voice whispered hope. 
In Selma, feet blistered on the bridge, 
souls heavy with longing for a promised dawn. 
The night did not surrender easily. 
Yet each step carried the dream forward, 
a light breaking through cracked doors. 
Oh, how darkness lingers— 
in refugee camps under Saharan skies, 
in icy waters where boats falter, 
in the whispers of those waiting for asylum. 
And still, Advent calls. 
Not for us to banish the night 
but to carry our shaky lanterns into it. 
From the catacombs of Rome 
to the verdant canopies of the Amazon, 
the world bends toward light.

We light one flame, 
then two, then four, 
each one a heartbeat of defiance. 
O come, O come, Emmanuel— 
God with us. 
You who were born to Mary 
in an unassuming town, 
in the simplest of stables, 
in the humblest of nights. 
The darkness does not comprehend the light, 
and yet the light persists. 
Not a blaze, but a flicker, 
a glimmer, 
a promise. 
Hope, like history, is stubborn. 
It threads through time 
and hums softly in every tongue: 
Patience. 
Faith. 
And always, 
the coming of the dawn.

Children deserve to read books where they feel seen, heard and represented. In this study, the researcher rated children\u27s books with main characters with communication disorders. Based upon components of bibliotherapy, the researcher designed two rating instruments, one for rating chapter books with no illustrations, and one for rating picture books. Applying inclusion criteria, the researcher rated 60 books. Results discuss representation by types of communication disorders or disabilities, demographics such as gender, genre, and quality of representation according to the components of bibliotherapy. The researcher also identified gaps in the literature

Walking through the trees with leaves Easter green, 
And life flourishes and sounds Your name from every breath. 
Three days ago, they haven’t been there I have seen; 
Now enclosed by children’s laughter in their plays. 
Three days ago was a day to remember, 
For as they nailed You on that naked tree, 
You nailed Your eyes on the generations that will be set free, 
And amidst was me, lives today and dies tomorrow like the wildflowers, 
But still worthy enough for You to stay on that tree. 
And as the nails split Your bones, 
You split history. 
Now, as the trees stretch their arms, 
Offering their best fruits, amidst Easter green leaves, to You, 
And now, as life, with every breath, sings praise to Your name. 
For now, today was a day to remember; 
The death of Death has come for all coming to You! 
Now I exist the chamber of nature walls and children’s laughter; 
Leaving behind my worries for the wildflowers that are behind the people 
That lay upon them, and my flesh upon that naked tree.
