Emotional Recognition using Convolutional Neuron Network
2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"Human emotion recognition plays an important role in many settings, such as the value of the quality of a meeting, the real satisfy level of customers toward a product, or even future robots with the same emotional abilities as
humans. In this project, we are focusing on leveraging an emotion recognition system to collect feedback information to improve online learning efficiency. As the goal of the preliminary work for the research, the goal of this work is to verify the effectiveness of the convolutional neural network (CNN) in recognizing different facial emotions. Therefore different CNN architectures are analyzed and compared to help us find the best CNN architecture for facial emotion recognition."https://youtu.be/8nbgwUJJIB
Kinship Care and Delinquent Behaviors: The Experience of NKU Students
2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentationKinship care can be defined as any adult raising a non-biological child. Parent’s and caregiver’s interactions with children can directly impact social and behavioral development of children. This study used data gathered from surveys, completed on NKU’s campus, of students ages 18 or older to examine the relationship being raised in kinship care has on the prevalence of delinquent behavior in NKU students. This study expects to find a positive correlation between being raised in kinship care and delinquent behavior. These findings will help to educate NKU on what services are necessary to mitigate this relationship.https://youtu.be/rdgRMEX96P
Bruce Family Papers MS-040
In addition to the MS-40 Bruce Family Papers Finding Aid, staff also created a Bruce Family Genealogy and partial? index to documents related to the Civil War which will also be found here. This collection discusses the life of a large, 19th century slave owning Covington, KY family involved in business, banking, agriculture and the Roebling Bridge construction. Discusses aspects of slavery, the Civil War, health including cholera outbreaks. Includes several early pencil drawings by Mary Bruce Sharon
Anticodon Loop Modifications Enhance Oxidative Stress Recovery in Yeast
2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"Across eukaryotic organisms, 2`-O methylations on the anticodon loops of tRNA molecules are widely conserved and crucial for efficient translation. The methyltransferase Trm7 interacts with the protein Trm732 to methylate nucleotide C32 and interacts with the protein Trm734 to methylate nucleotide G34 on tRNA phenylalanine. Yeast cells lacking both modifications are sick, but the presence of either modification causes a healthy phenotype. Oxidative stress caused by free radicals stimulates metabolic responses which upregulate the transcription of stress recovery genes. Previous research indicates that trm7Δ mutants and trm734Δ mutants have lowered resistance to oxidative stress. In this study,trm732Δ, trm734Δ and trm7Δ mutants showed lowered, yet comparable levels of oxidative stress resistance."https://youtu.be/GmpjXCQG5F
Teenage Mothers: Attainment of Education
2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"Although teen pregnancy has decreased nationwide over the last several years, the US is still one of the highest in the developed countries in teenage pregnancies. The social and educational risk factors that contribute to teenage pregnancy are crucial in understanding what needs to be done in order to provide support and resources for teenage mothers. One of the biggest challenges teenage mothers face is graduating from high school. Most teenage mothers will drop out of high school because of the stigmatization associated with early pregnancy. Statistics show that only 10% of mothers between the ages of 13-17 graduate from high school.
The socio-economic outcomes have been the focus on research of teenage parents, often finding a negative impact on employment. Education can mitigate these negative outcomes. This complex problem can be viewed through a psychological and educational lens and the policies and programs that can or should be available to help with teenage moms attaining an education are vital to the research I will be completing. The gap between teenage mothers’ aspirations and the support they receive suggest that more can be done on an educational platform and there is a missed opportunity to help these young women."https://youtu.be/YmM0H8XdVj
Virtual Leadership
2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"Leading in a virtual environment has been a growing phenomenon with the growing availability of technologies that support real-time global connections and conferencing. Never has this skill set been more important than in the year 2020 as the global economy faced a worldwide pandemic that required every organization to rethink their strategies for doing business and supporting their employees, customers, and global networks. This study explores existing literature on virtual leadership to identify key factors of effective virtual leadership and employee engagement."https://youtu.be/A6pHw4_OqF

The Relationship between Authentic Leadership and Emotional Intelligence
2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"Authentic leaders lead with purpose, meaning, and values, leveraging their natural abilities with an awareness of their shortcomings. Research has shown that people are more likely to follow an authentic leader because they trust them and know exactly where the leader stands on issues. With the evident value of this leadership approach, it is worthwhile to examine the characteristics that promote authentic leadership practices. One such characteristic is emotional intelligence. Using a systemic literature review, this paper explores existing research on emotional intelligence and authentic leadership to explore and identify connections, if any, exist between the two."https://youtu.be/vx_tXl2wGm
