The Implications of Poverty on Educational Achievements of College Students

This study examines the relationship between poverty and educational achievements of college students. Data was collected utilizing Qualtrics, an online survey, administered to college students on social media. Educational achievements are expected to be lower for those who experienced poverty. First by exemplifying just how frequent these crimes are committed, researching how these scenarios of abuse begin, and then finding how their respective universities would respond, I have come to assemble a few proposed solutions for the schools. Based on unstructured interviews, email correspondence, and social media interaction between October and November 2020, this project highlights the hierarchical structure of entertainment journalism as well as the platforms on which it takes place. The influence of diet and lifestyle on precocious puberty in males and females.
No full text2021 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"Male and female pubertal onset age has decreased over the past 150 years and this trend has been associated with diet and lifestyle. Obesity in females has been associated with early menarche age, as well as general increased adult body mass index (BMI). An unhealthy diet leads to precocious puberty in males. However, obesity is thought to lead to delayed growth in males. This can lead to health concerns later in life. Females have an increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, breast cancer, and endometrial cancer as well as mental health repercussions such as depression and antisocial behavior. Males have an increased risk of testicular cancer, shorter stature, substance abuse, and depression. As 18.5% of American children suffer from obesity, it is important to encourage children to exercise and inform parents of the risks of precocious puberty. In order to inform the public of this issue, an event called “Hike for Your Health” was initiated. Families would exercise and then record their time spent exercising in a GoogleSheets form. Religion has shown itself to be one of the main factors in this area. So how then do religiosity and public opinions of sex work interact? A test of public opinion on the matter was conducted on 204 respondents, and a link between support for increases in religiosity or other moral concerns being linked to an increase in moral concern for sex work, or vice versa, was found. Using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography to Assess Genetic Susceptibility to Gestational and Lactational Benzo[a]pyrene Exposure
No full text"Traffic-related air pollution is a complex mixture that includes the neurotoxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon benzo[a]pyrene. We use mice to model human genetic variation in genes related to BaP metabolism to identify those at higher risk from early life exposure. Following behavioral testing of mice exposed to BaP during pregnancy and breast-feeding, we measure neurotransmitter levels in multiple brain regions. We found significant differences in levels of both dopamine and serotonin and their metabolites. Intergenerational Contact in Younger Adults and its Effect on Aging Anxiety, Attitudes, and Future Time Perspective
No full text2021 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"Intergenerational contact has shown to be associated with aging anxiety, ageist attitudes, and future time perspective. In past studies, more aging anxiety and ageist attitudes had negative associations with future time perspective, and intergenerational contact has shown to reduce these views. However, the majority of these studies have focused on older adults. The goal of this study was to examine multiple correlations between family and non-family intergenerational contact, aging anxiety, ambivalent ageist attitudes, and future time perspective in young adults. It was hypothesized that these correlations would create a theoretical pathway from intergenerational contact to future time perspective. Results revealed that the majority of these correlations were significant in the expected directions and that the model was significant to future time perspective. In this class we used techniques like NMR, MPCL, and computer modeling to purify, identify, and evaluate a number of different compounds. The specific compounds that I worked with during these experiments were I80 (tropinone)-H40 (6- bromoquinoline) and I80- H9H (4Bromothiazole). Heteroaryl compounds, like I80-H40 and I80-H9H, are

Gender and Barriers to Mental Health Services for People with Autism

Despite high rates of mental health service utilization people with autism report more barriers to receiving quality care and higher service needs than those with other disabilities. This study examines gender differences in reported barriers to autistic persons receiving mental health care. Barriers to healthcare were measured using a modified version of the barriers to healthcare checklist.
