Behavior of Flat Slabs with Partial Use of SIFCON Subjected to Concentrated Loading

    Get PDF
This research investigates the applicability of slurry-infiltrated fiber concrete (SIFCON) to enhance ductility and punching shear capacity. In addition, especially since the SIFCON mortar is considered self-compacting, thus reduces the labor costs associated with concrete vibration. Eight flat slabs with dimension 600 × 600 × 60 mm, were cast and tested under concentrated loading. The main experimental parameters investigated were the type of concrete (NSC and SIFCON), the placement of SIFCON within the slab, and the proportion of the slab area composed of SIFCON. Among the tested specimens, one slab was constructed entirely with NSC and another entirely with SIFCON; these two slabs served as reference specimens for comparative evaluation. The experimental results are presented, including maximum load, deflection, ductility, and rotation, as well as the crack pattern of each specimen and the inclination of cracks. According to the test results, punching shear of RC slabs and deformation capacities are considerably increased by using SIFCON. The percentage increase in punching shear capacity of the slab with SIFCON layer 40 mm in the tension face was 112%, and the ductility of the slab with SIFCON layer 20 mm in the tension face was 117%, compared with the reference slab. Furthermore, by increasing the post-punching deformations of slabs, the strengthening approach may also be applied to prevent structures from collapsing suddenly following punching shear failure

Comparing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Views between Providers and Passengers of BRT Trans Banyumas Based on TOD Standard 3.0

    Get PDF
An efficient transportation system will positively impact economic growth and equitable social development. Sustainable transportation policies aim to address adverse environmental impacts, such as pollution, congestion, and reduced accessibility. Trans Banyumas acts as a transportation system that facilitates the movement of Banyumas residents by connecting them to several points. The existence of Trans Banyumas should be able to encourage the increased use of public transportation as a solution to overcome transportation problems in Banyumas. This study aims to examine and measure the extent of the service of the Trans Banyumas transit-oriented development concept. This research emphasises passengers' views of transit-oriented development (TOD) services and the operator's views. This research method used GLM ANOVA to test the hypothesis, with quantitative data collection from 375 respondents. The results show that the four reference bus stops showed different scores. Pasar Pon, Bulupitu Bus Station, and Tanjung bus stops reached the bronze standard, while Rita Super Mall bus stop reached the silver Standard. The GLM ANOVA analysis results show that passengers' socio-demographic characteristics significantly affect the service of the eight TOD principles, except densify and shift. The recommendations for improving the Trans Banyumas bus stops include establishing proper pedestrian and bicycle lanes, road infrastructure, and bus stop infrastructure, including proper lighting, cleanliness, and proximity to residential areas. In addition, the operator can establish an open space and retail stores to enhance economic and mobility activities around the TOD

Climate Change and Risk Management: Existence Conditions for Efficiency Optimising Insurance Portfolios with Low-probability High-impact Risks

    Get PDF
Climate change may be associated with an increasing frequency of natural catastrophes, and possible ways of alleviating at least the related financial burden are of high importance. Catastrophe probabilities are low, but catastrophic events can have overwhelming effects, and insurance market solutions for catastrophe risk management are often unavailable. By focusing on the insurance industry's perspective, in which risk and profitability can be key decision factors, this paper aims to highlight a possible theoretical obstacle impeding further market development. In a stylised model the findings suggest that an essential feature of catastrophe risks (the inverse relationship between risk probability and risk impact) may lead to a situation where the theoretical availability of efficient insurance for low-probability high-impact risk is highly limited. This result underlines the value of appropriate catastrophe insurance and reinsurance product design that could theoretically contribute to alleviating efficiency problems

„Könyvtáron kívül nincsen számomra hely” : A könyvtár mint metafora Murakami Haruki regényeiben

In several of Haruki Murakami’s novels, the library and the librarian are endowed with profound symbolic meaning. For him, the library is far more than a mere setting; it serves as a metaphor for consciousness, memory, and identity. Through three works, we can trace the evolution of the library motif: initially it appears as a labyrinth of the unconscious, reflecting fears and anxieties (The Strange Library); later it becomes a sanctuary for nurturing the soul and preserving personal memory (Kafka on the Shore); and finally it rises to a creative archive that holds together the universe-structure of parallel realities (The City and Its Uncertain Walls). In Murakami’s vision, the librarian transforms from a terrifying guardian of knowledge into a protagonist who restores balance, capable of building bridges between consciousness and dream, past and present, reality and metaphysics. The evolution of the library metaphor is closely intertwined with processes of human identity, grief, anxiety, and self-understanding, while simultaneously mirroring the maturation of Murakami’s literary world.

Smart Laboratories in Slovak Libraries – Innovation for the Future

    No full text
Public libraries worldwide are undergoing a significant transformation, evolving from traditional repositories of books into creative, educational, and community-oriented hubs. This shift reflects broader technological, social, and cultural changes that require new forms of learning, collaboration, and public engagement. In Slovakia, these developments have led to the establishment of SmartLabs – creative and educational laboratories integrated into public libraries and coordinated by the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (CVTI SR). SmartLabs combine digital fabrication tools, robotics, and experiential learningwith community engagement and digital inclusion. This article outlines the global trends influencing library transformation, explains the Slovak context and the role of CVTI SR, describes the SmartLab concept and its implementation, and discusses its potential to shape the future of libraries in Slovakia and beyond

Microlearning as a Vehicle for Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction: Bridging Cognitive Science and Instructional Practice

    No full text
Microlearning—short, focused learning units delivered via digital or blended formats—has surged in popularity across educational contexts, yet its instructional quality often depends on the underlying design principles. This conceptual paper argues that Barak Rosenshine’s ten Principles of Instruction provide an evidence-informed framework to guide the design of effective microlearning experiences in both K–12 and higher education settings. Drawing on cognitive science research and empirical studies, the paper maps each of Rosenshine’s principles—including daily review, small-step instruction, questioning, modeling, guided practice, scaffolding, and spaced review—onto practical microlearning strategies. By illustrating how microlessons can embody these principles, the paper demonstrates that microlearning can move beyond superficial or fragmented “bite-sized” content toward pedagogically coherent, high-impact learning experiences. This synthesis offers educators, instructional designers, and researchers a structured approach to creating microlearning that aligns with established science-of-learning principles, aiming to improve learner retention, engagement, and knowledge transfer while addressing gaps in current microlearning implementations and research

In our research we investigate the characteristics of secondary school students in relation to career orientation career uncertainty, career interest and career knowledge. The sub-questions of our research are: into which groups can students be divided in terms of career choice? What are the different types of career ambiguity? How differentiated are students' interests in career ambiguity? What are the different types of interests of students? How well do students know about the activities and interests associated with careers? Does it matter whether the questions on knowledge of careers are closed or open? What correlation can be observed in the differentiation of career interest, openness, career knowledge and career uncertainty? To answer these questions, we used a questionnaire based on three previously of three questionnaires already validated in Hungarian, updated and partly modified. The Carrier Factors Inventory (Chartrand et. al., 1990) (Lukács, 2012), career interest was measured by the Work Interest Questionnaire (Szilágyi, 1997) and career awareness based on Fazakas (2009) with open and closed questions on tools and activities. In terms of career uncertainty, the research sample can be divided into four groups: general pathfinders, career choice anxious, informed choosers and anxious seekers. There is a discrepancy between the actual career knowledge of students and their perceived information needs, as well as between the perceived need for more openness and is generally associated with some type of uncertainty. The majority of students' interest can be considered differentiated. In the case of closed questions on career knowledge, students and have a particularly poor knowledge of technical and scientific fields. This study presents the first results of a longer research process, which was carried out by the Miénk a Pálya Foundation. The aim of the research is to assess the Foundation's impact of the Foundation's work through changes in the competences they aim to develop. The current research can help organisations working in the field of career guidance exploring the characteristics of students in relation to career choices. The conclusions of the study can be put into practice, especially since previous literature, the findings are based on the simultaneous analysis of several aspects of several dimensions.
