Effect of Coconut Fiber Content on the Properties of Unfired Building Bricks Incorporating Thermal Power Plant Ashes

    Get PDF
This study examined the effect of coconut fiber (CF) content on the properties of unfired building bricks (UBBs) using fly ash (FA) and bottom ash (BA) from the Nghi Son coal-fired thermal power plant (CTP). Cement and FA served as binders while BA replaced crushed stone as the fine aggregate. Raw brown CFs were treated with a 5% NaOH solution at 50 °C to increase their mechanical properties. The treated CFs were then cut to a short length of 15 mm and had an average aspect ratio of 103. Brick samples were cast with CF content at ratios of 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9% by binder weight (CF/B) and water-to-binder (W/B) ratios of 0.30 and 0.35. The UBBs were formed under a low pressure of 0.5 MPa and tested to evaluate the effects of CF/B and W/B ratios on brick properties. Results showed that compressive strength (CS) increased with higher CF content, with all samples exceeding 10 MPa after 28 days, classifying them as grade M10 per TCVN 6477:2016. The optimal CF content was 6%, which yielded the highest CS. Increasing CF content reduced unit weight (UW), ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), and thermal conductivity (TC), while water absorption (WA) increased. Conversely, a lower W/B ratio improved CS, UW, UPV, and TC, while reducing WA. Microstructural observations revealed that CF acts as a bridge connecting cracks, which helps restrain crack widening and enhance CS

Investigation of the Effects of Rock Components for Different Pyroclastic Rocks on Leeb Hardness

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to research the effect of rock components on Leeb hardness (HL), a non-destructive test commonly used in recent periods. With this aim, cube samples of two different pyroclastic rocks containing dominantly pumice (P) or volcanic rock fragments (VRF) were prepared. Later, the proportions of different components (P and VRF) on the surfaces of the cube samples were determined using the Image Pro Plus 6.0 image processing program. The effect of the variation in these components on HL values was researched with simple regression analysis and strong correlation coefficients were found between these values. According to the data obtained, the HL test was identified not to be suitable for heterogeneous rocks comprising different components

Social responsibility to ensure equal opportunities: The activities of the Berzsenyi Dániel Library in Szombathely in the field of library services for the disadvantaged

One of the fundamental objectives of the Berzsenyi Dániel Library (BDL) is to provide high quality library services to the public by providing access to documents and information, which means that special attention must be paid to the rights of people with health and physical disabilities and social disadvantages when using the library. The article summarises the legal background, provides a historical overview, details the main elements of the library’s equal opportunities programmes, and strategic goals. One of the fundamental objectives of the Berzsenyi Dániel Library (BDL) is to provide high quality library services to the public by providing access to documents and information, which means that special attention must be paid to the rights of people with health and physical disabilities and social disadvantages when using the library. Determination of Rational Operating Modes for Hybrid Electric Vehicles

    Get PDF
Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) are the bridge between Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEVs), and EVs. This paper describes Energy management, and possible energy management strategies of these vehicles to achieve the desired emission goals.Environmental pollution is an increasingly significant issue in today's world. Failure to change daily routines- especially transportation habits-this could have severe consequences within a few decades. People are often posing the question about what the optimal balance between our fast-paced modern world could be and minimizing environmental impact, particularly in terms of vehicle selection. The solution may lie somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of regular cars with internal combustion engines (ICE), and pure electric vehicles (EVs). Due to the importance of the topic, this paper delves deeper into plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV)

The role of reflective techniques in professional development of teachers in a fiction-based course

    No full text
Our study presents the partial results of a survey of teachers and pre-service teachers between 2023 and 2024. The research framework was an online course combining reflective and narrative techniques based on reading works of fiction, using methodological elements of professional book clubs. In the present research we focus on the role of reflective techniques and practices in the professional development of the teacher participants in this complex process. This topic is presented through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of 50 teachers' responses to a questionnaire survey. The analysis of the data shows that reflective techniques were appropriate tools to support teachers' professional development and learning: in varying proportions, but that they played a role in exploring their individual pedagogical beliefs, identifying feelings related to their career and work, and in the construction or development of their professional identity. Our study presents the partial results of a survey of teachers and pre-service teachers between 2023 and 2024. Facilitation of reflective practice as a collaborative and improvement-oriented professional learning: A teacher educator’s self-study experiences

    No full text
Professional learning literature advocate intentionality towards collaborative and improvement-oriented initiatives among teacher educators. Employing the notion of professional learning as praxis development, i.e., morally committed and change oriented action, this article discusses one teacher educator’s experiences of self-study on his facilitations of reflective practice. Through a reflexive thematic analysis on a self-reflective and interactive data sets, aspects of the proactive facilitations that prefigured praxis development are presented. These include researching self-in-practice and positioning contextual challenges as conditions for developing professional experiences. A dynamic of researching practices and creating conditions for improvements is identified to have led to developing improvement-oriented collaborative commitments in and for practice. Modelling and development of intrinsic motivations by attending to social and relational dimensions in sites of practice are highlighted as implications for improving collaborative commitments among practitioners in challenging contexts
