    Poisoning Attacks on Learning-Based Keystroke Authentication and a Residue Feature Based Defense

    Behavioral biometrics, such as keystroke dynamics, are characterized by relatively large variation in the input samples as compared to physiological biometrics such as fingerprints and iris. Recent advances in machine learning have resulted in behaviorbased pattern learning methods that obviate the effects of variation by mapping the variable behavior patterns to a unique identity with high accuracy. However, it has also exposed the learning systems to attacks that use updating mechanisms in learning by injecting imposter samples to deliberately drift the data to impostors’ patterns. Using the principles of adversarial drift, we develop a class of poisoning attacks, named Frog-Boiling attacks. The update samples are crafted with slow changes and random perturbations so that they can bypass the classifiers detection. Taking the case of keystroke dynamics which includes motoric and neurological learning, we demonstrate the success of our attack mechanism. We also present a detection mechanism for the frog-boiling attack that uses correlation between successive training samples to detect spurious input patterns. To measure the effect of adversarial drift in frog-boiling attack and the effectiveness of the proposed defense mechanism, we use traditional error rates such as FAR, FRR, and EER and the metric in terms of shifts in biometric menagerie

    Predicting Quality Outcome.s of Privatized Services in Local Governments Utilizing the Scott and Bruce Measure

    Privatization has been one of the main challenges in the reform of the public service. Privatization is often regarded as an essential means of achieving improved efficiency and quality of public services, and municipalities develop novel methods to privatize their services to cope up with the financial strain. Privatization of services, however, requires a well-formulated model of decision-making that leaders can utilize to realize the most positive outcomes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the type of decision-making style that could be used to predict a favorable outcome when making decisions to privatize government services or projects in north Louisiana. The decision-making type must be effective in guiding new or inexperienced leaders in the government to make critical decisions in their careers. Data were collected from 128 study participants through Scott and Bruce’s technique. In the end, the results were analyzed and evaluated to identify the most appropriate style of decision-making. Out of all the decision-making styles that were analyzed and discussed in the study, rational decision-making was found to accurately outline a government leader’s decisions to privatize services or projects. The rational decision-making had the highest mean rating of 4.58. The rational decision-making style had Private-public outcomes in the privatization of government projects and services. The new leaders of north Louisiana can significantly forecast future growth by relying on logical sequence of making decisions to cut on their expenses while improving efficiency

    The School Leader\u27s Role in Co-Teaching and It\u27s Impact on the Academic Achievement for Students with Disabilities

    iii ABSTRACT The purpose of this research study was to analyze the role of school leaders in the implementation of co-teaching as an instructional model on teacher collaboration and academic outcomes for students with disabilities. Federal guidelines and provisions forged the increase of mainstreaming students with disabilities into the full inclusion setting. As a result, school administrators are increasingly implementing co-teaching as an instructional model to provide opportunities to access the general education curriculum while receiving special education supports and services in the full inclusion setting. A mix-method study of semi-structured interviews with school leaders and coteachers and data analyses of LEAP 2025 scores were evaluated at six middle schools. Results indicated an increase in teacher collaboration and improvements for students with disabilities. The research intent was to contribute to the school administrators\u27 role in the co-teaching process and forge further discussion of co-teaching as a pedagogical model in education reform

    Optimization of a GFP Biosensor for the Discovery of Novel Antibiotics

    In today’s world, there is an urgent need to discover novel antibiotics due to the rise of antibiotic resistance and the lack of new ones being approved. Building off of Hanson et al. and their reduction-oxidation sensitive green fluorescent protein (roGFP)(1), that we yeast codon optimized (2); I wanted to determine if I could create a real-time biosensor that has the ability to respond to ROS produced in the stress response triggered by antibiotics as a platform to identify novel antibiotics. To achieve this, I need to know if it will oligomerize in bacterial cytoplasm due to its two cysteines at 48 and 70 and what the optimal conditions are for the biosensor. From western blot results, royGFP does not oligomerize in the cells showing that our biosensor should not lose fluorescence. royGFP had a strong sensitivity to hydrogen peroxide and ROS triggered from antibiotics. The results showed that royGFP can be used as an ROS biosensor tool to help discover novel antibiotics

    Periodic Points and Sharkovsky’s Theorem

    The number of periodic points of a function depends on the context. The number of complex periodic points and rational periodic points have been shown to be infinite and finite, respectively, if f is a polynomial of degree at least 2. However, the number of real periodic points can be either finite or infinite. Sharkovskys Theorem states that if p is left of q in the “Sharkovsky ordering” and the continuous function f has a point of period p, then f also has a point of period q. This statement becomes very powerful when considering a function that has points of period 3, all the way to the left side of the Sharkovsky ordering, since having a point of period 3 implies the existence of points of all periods. We explore a continuous function with points of period 3 where the function can be restricted to an interval containing points of period all other natural numbers
