Hybrid energy storage modeling and control for power system operation studies : a survey
As the share of variable renewable energy sources in power systems grows, system operators have encountered several challenges, such as renewable generation curtailment, load interruption, voltage regulation problems, and frequency stability threats. This is particularly important for power systems transitioning to net zero. Energy storage systems are considered an effective solution to overcome these challenges. However, with the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources, different requirements have emerged, and a single energy storage solution may not effectively meet all of them. Hybrid energy storage systems have recently been proposed to remedy this problem. Different individual energy storage systems possess complementary characteristics that can enhance the reliability, security, and stability of power systems. However, hybrid energy storage systems often require more intricate modeling approaches and control strategies. Many researchers are currently working on hybrid energy storage systems to address these issues. This paper thoroughly reviews the modeling and control schemes of hybrid energy storage systems for different power system operation studies. It also examines the factors influencing the selection of hybrid energy storage systems for various power system applications. Finally, this paper provides recommendations for future research in this area. © 2024 by the authors
Situated living labs : multi-level theoretical foundations with illustrative case examples
Living labs have been utilised to help address a diverse range of complex societal issues, but individual instances are situated in a particular time-place-problem context. Previous studies had suggested a need for theory-based reference models to support the framing of living lab operations. The aim of this conceptual paper is to draw on established practitioner and academic experience to match key concepts with an innovative Socio-Technical-System product model and a Cultural-Historical Activity Theory process model adapted for this purpose. Multiple living lab explanatory case studies are used to illustrate the application of the concepts presented and to outline socioeconomic ecosystem linkages with subsidiary innovation, business and knowledge ecosystems. The important contribution of living lab stakeholder experiential learning and impact assessment is noted, and we offer suggestions for future research on these subjects. © 2024 Universidade do Porto - Faculdade de Engenharia. Are tourist interactions good or bad? Tourist–tourist Interactions at 5-star hotels in Istanbul
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of ambience and aesthetics on tourist–tourist interaction and the effects of tourist–tourist interaction on a sense of belonging, intention to recommend, and satisfaction in accommodation establishments. The study was carried out based on the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) model. The study was conducted in 5-star hotels in Istanbul/Turkey. Data were collected from 392 tourists staying in these hotels through a survey. Structural equation modelling was used to analyse the data obtained. The results of the study reveal that ambience and aesthetics have a significant effect on tourist–tourist interaction in accommodation establishments. It was also found that tourist–tourist interactions have a significant effect on the sense of belonging, intention to recommend, and satisfaction. This study provides contributions to the important field of tourist–tourist interaction, and accordingly fills a gap in the literature. © 2024 by the authors
Development of a driving clinical decision pathway for non-driver trained occupational therapists
Introduction: While a small number of occupational therapists have additional training as driver assessors, all occupational therapists have a duty of care to address driving as an occupation. This study aimed to develop a resource to support Australian non-driver trained occupational therapists in daily practice to address driving with clients who may require on-road assessment due to a health concern. Method: A literature review and comprehensive process for the development of a driving clinical decision pathway was followed using four phases. A virtual nominal group technique was used to investigate the content validity of the driving clinical decision pathway. Purposive sampling was used to recruit two groups of occupational therapists to participate in a virtual nominal group technique. Results: A driving clinical decision pathway was developed with five key sections. The 11 participants attended 1 of 2 virtual nominal group technique for 120 minutes each, where 100% consensus was achieved with both groups relating to the content validity of the clinical decision pathway content, and ease of use. Conclusion: Driving is a meaningful goal for all adults who have health-related challenges. A comprehensive driving clinical decision pathway has been developed and made available that supports Australian non-driver trained occupational therapists to address driving as an occupation that maintains individuals’ independence and public safety. © The Author(s) 2024

Navigating blockchain adoption : an examination of actor alignment with the Diffusion of Innovation principles
Blockchain technology has garnered substantial interest due to its capacity to transform numerous industries by amplifying transparency and bolstering security measures. Despite the increasing interest, there is a void in existing literature regarding the alignment of actors with the Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) principles in the context of blockchain adoption. This gap restricts comprehension of the factors influencing adoption. This research addresses this void by investigating how actors align with the DOI principles in making decisions about blockchain adoption. The DOI model is combined with the innovation translation concept derived from Actor-Network Theory (ANT) to explore these complex dynamics in more detail. The results indicate that the decision-making process for blockchain adoption corresponds to the knowledge, persuasion, and decision stages, mirroring the phases found in the innovation translation approach. This research offers theoretical insights and practical knowledge that can be beneficial to individuals and organisations looking to promote the successful implementation of blockchain technology. © 2024 The Author

Beyond deception : exploiting deepfake technology for ethical innovation in healthcare
The significant growth in deepfake technology has triggered concerns over its potential for misuse and ethical consequences. While current literature primarily highlights these risks, this paper offers a unique perspective by exploring the beneficial applications of deepfakes in healthcare. We aim to shift the focus from negative to positive uses, demonstrating how deepfakes can promote ethical innovation and make substantial contributions to the healthcare sector. This study presents the possibilities of deepfake technology as an opportunity to promote ethical innovation that can substantially impact healthcare. Specifically, we examine how deepfakes can facilitate the creation of realistic patient personas to enhance the efficacy of communication and empathy training for healthcare professionals. Furthermore, we evaluate the technology's potential to generate realistic simulations for medical training, diagnosis, and treatment planning. We also explore the creative application of deepfakes in anonymising video records of patients. By altering the facial features of individuals in images or videos while preserving their expressions, this technology ensures patient privacy while capitalising on facial cues for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The integration of deepfakes in health care requires a thoughtful and ethical approach. It is essential to establish regulatory frameworks to ensure the responsible use of deepfakes in these critical domains. This paper addresses these ethical considerations, emphasising the importance of transparency and informed consent when employing deepfake technology in sensitive healthcare environments
Role of Lean Six Sigma in manufacturing setting: a systematic literature review and agenda for future research
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present the systematic literature review (SLR) on Lean Six Sigma (LSS) by exploring the state of the art on growth of literature on LSS within the manufacturing sector, critical factors to implement LSS, the role of LSS in the manufacturing sector from an implementation and sustainability viewpoint and Industry 4.0 viewpoints while highlighting the research gaps. Design/methodology/approach: An SLR of 2,876 published articles extracted from Scopus, WoS, Emerald Insight, IEEE Xplore, Taylor & Francis, Springer and Inderscience databases was carried out following the protocol of systematic review. In total, 154 articles published in different journals over the past 10 years were selected for quantitative and qualitative analysis which revealed a number of research gaps. Findings: The findings of the SLR revealed the growth of literature on LSS within the manufacturing sector. The review also highlighted the most cited critical success factors, critical failure factors, performance indicators and associated tools and techniques applied during LSS implementation. The review also focused on studies related to LSS and sustainability viewpoint and LSS and Industry 4.0 viewpoints. Practical implications: The findings of this SLR can help senior managers, practitioners and researchers to understand the current developments and future requirements to adopt LSS in manufacturing sectors from sustainability and Industry 4.0 viewpoints. Originality/value: Academic publications in the context of the role of LSS in various research streams are sparse, and to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper is one of the first SLRs which explore current developments and future requirements to implement LSS from sustainability and Industry 4.0 perspective. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited
