An Analysis of the Use of Inquiry Based Learning Through The 5E Model as A Pedagogy to Improve Critical Thinking and Problem Solving in Mathematics Education in Jamaica
Get PDFThis paper analyses the existing and restructured use of the Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) pedagogy through the 5E model in Mathematics education in Jamaica. Mathematics education in Jamaica has been an area of concern for over a decade as data shows that many students continue to fail to meet the national standards. In order to mitigate this growing issue, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEYI) has implemented a new curriculum, method of teaching and forms of assessment to aid in developing critical thinkers and problems solvers in the field of Mathematics and by extension, other disciplines across the curriculum. This paper examines the implemented curriculum in relation to intended curriculum by observing the existing use of 5E in comparison to a restructured 5E to determine if a difference exists that can aid in improving students' performance. The major finding is that there seems to be a gap between the theory of IBL and its implementation where online lessons for the re-structured 5E seems to be favourable to develop knowledge and skills but more favourable to develop mathematical thinking skills.departmental bulletin pape

Pre-Service Training of Elementary School Teachers in Burkina Faso
Get PDFThis research is to start from the history of primary pre-service teacher training in Burkina Faso in order to give an updated reading of the system of pre-service teacher training for primary schools. We will examine a certain number of contents to provide a good understanding of this sub-sector of education. Thus, understanding the pre-service training of primary school teachers based on the training curriculum, the discovery of teaching programs, the training scenario for trainee teachers in INFPE (Institut National de Formation des Personnels de lʼEducation= National Institute for the Training of Education Personnel), the process of course scheduling during pre-service training, the organization of teaching and evaluation, the trainer pole with the condition of lecturers, the current situation of trainers and their certification background in the INFPE are some of the concerns that we intend to refl ect upon. Finally, we will have a look at the collaboration in pre-service training with the content of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) interventions in pre-service training in Burkina Faso and the current challenges of the trainers at the INFPE.departmental bulletin pape

Get PDF本実践研究の目的は，中学校において教師が生徒による変革を目的としたサービス・ラーニング(SL)を促すことが，生徒の主体性と「社会的有効性意識」に与える影響を明らかにすることである。中学校教員でもある大学院生が，6名の生徒会役員に対して，約1年間，防災をテーマにしたSLを内容とする特別活動の授業を実施した。授業の前後に，6名の生徒会役員に対して，主体性と社会的有効性意識を測る質問紙調査を実施した。結果，中学校において教師が生徒による変革を目的としたSLを促すことが，生徒の主体性と社会的有効性意識の向上に影響を与えることが明らかになった。The purpose of this practical research is to clarify the effect of teachersʼ promotion of service-learning (SL) for the purpose of change by students in junior high school on their independence and "awareness of social effectiveness". A graduate student who is also a junior high school teacher conducted special activity classes for about one year for six student organization officers, which included SL on the theme of disaster prevention. Before and after class, we conducted a questionnaire survey of six student organization officers to measure their independence and awareness of social effectiveness. As a result, it was clarified that the teacherʼs promotion of SL for the purpose of change by the student affects the improvement of the studentʼs independence and social effectiveness awareness in junior high school.departmental bulletin pape
Text mining analysis of kindergarten teachers’ thoughts on documentation
Get PDF保育においては，子どもの評価のためにドキュメンテーションなどの記録をとることが求められている。本研究は，保育者にインタビュー調査を行い，テキストマイニング分析によって，保育者のドキュメンテーションや子どもの評価に対する考えの特徴を明らかにするものである。インタビューのデータをKHCoderを用いて分析した結果，階層的クラスターによって10個の特徴に分類された。子どもの姿の振り返りの手立てとして記録を工夫していること，家庭との連携や小学校の先生との共有手段としていることなどが明らかになった。これらの結果を踏まえ，保育現場で有効なドキュメンテーションの開発に役立てたい。Kindergarten teachers in Japan have been mandated to record their evaluations of their students. This study conducts an interview survey with kindergarten teachers to investigate their thoughts on the documentation in early childhood education and classify the teacherʼs thoughts using text mining analysis. Data analysis was performed using the KH Coder, and teacher characteristics were classified into 10 clusters. We found that the teachers used the documentation for the reflection and evaluation of early childhood education and care. They also shared the documentation with the parents and elementary school teachers of their students. Roles and Tasks of the Visitor in Visiting Psychological Support for Children of Non-Attendance at School
Get PDF本論文の目的は，不登校の訪問臨床における訪問者の役割と課題について明らかにすることである。訪問者には多様な役割がある。これらの役割のうちで最も重要なのは，訪問者が子どもたちとの人間関係づくりを行う心理発達的役割である。筆者は，訪問者の心理発達的役割の基本的な要因として８つを説明した。また，訪問者が抱えている3つのタイプの課題（悩み），つまり，訪問者の役割上の悩み，訪問者の心理面の悩み，訪問の構造に関する悩みについて述べた。最後に，大学院生の訪問者の経験と成長，そして研修とスーパーヴィジョンについて述べた。The purpose of this paper is to clarify roles and tasks of the visitor in visiting psychological support for children of non-attendance at school. Visitors have a variety of roles. The most important of these roles is the psychological developmental role in which the visitor builds relationships with the children. The author explained eight basic factors of the psychological developmental role of visitors. The author also described three types of issues (worries) that visitors have: worries about the role of the visitor, worries about the psychological aspects of the visitor, and worries about the structure of visiting psychological support. Get PDF鳴門教育大学(以下，本学)の附属学校園では，附属小学校・附属中学校を中心として「教育相談室」が運営されている。平成13年度から，附属学校園には本学の臨床心理士の資格をもつ教員がスクールカウンセラーとして配置され，平成27年度からは生徒指導支援センターの設置に伴い，生徒指導支援センター研究員が附属学校園の専属のスクールカウンセラーとして配置されている。本報告では，平成31年度･令和元年度までの報告と同様に，令和2年度の「教育相談室」活動について報告する。School counseling activities have been carried out at schools affiliated to the Naruto University of Education since the academic year (AY) 2001. From the AY 2015, school counselors have been dispatched from the Center for School Support of Guidance and Counseling. A School-Based Universal Prevention Education (Short Version Program) for Development of Understanding and Regulating Emotions: New Educational Methods for 6th-Grade Children at Elementary Schools
Get PDFYamasaki, Sasaki, Uchida, Katsuma and Matsumoto (2011) developed universal prevention education programs named “TOP SELF (Trial Of Prevention School Education for Life and Friendship).” This article explained about the educational programs for development of understanding and regulating emotions in TOP SELF. Moreover, among the short version programs, the one for 6th-grade children at elementary schools was focused. First, the structure of the hierarchical purposes for this short version program was introduced. Next, after clarifying the differences in purposes between normal and short version programs, concrete educational methods were explained for the 6th-grade short version in detail. Furthermore, this program was developed by new methods to reduce the burdens on teachers as practitioners. Finally, future directions are suggested in terms of need for new educational evaluation. The appendix included the plans for class guidance and blackboard demonstration, along with the detailed scenarios, for elementary school teachers. “Informality” and “Balance” Discussed by Members of the Disaster Prevention Learning ClubClub at Tsuda Junior High School in Tokushima City: Communitas Born in the Field of Disaster Prevention Learning
Get PDFThis paper presents a summary of discussions between students and graduates of the Disaster Prevention Learning Club of Tsuda Junior School and analyzes their speech using KHCoder. Members said that the activities of the Disaster Prevention Learning Club encouraged disaster prevention skills and developed their abilities to take a proactive role in things; the “informal” human relations and “balanced” leadership across ages and grades were the basis of their disaster prevention activities which made it enjoyable for many club members. In addition, this study examines the dynamism of the field with “informality” and “balance” using the concept of communitas under cultural anthropology. Communitas is the characteristics of human relationships when new relationships are created by removing everyday relationships. They can occur in disaster prevention places where people are confronted with natural disasters that exceed human wisdom. The dynamism of free “informality” and “balance” in the Disaster Prevention Learning Club at Tsuda Junior High School are hypothesized to be generated by Communitas. Through such consideration, this study suggests that good disaster prevention activities can be understood as a peculiarity of schools and communities, but also as general activities.departmental bulletin pape
