A Study of Francesco Borromini’s Project for the Vallicelliana Library in the Roman Oratory
Francesco Boromini, one of the three greatest architects of Roman Baroque period in the 17
th century, realized a luxurious and ingenious large space of the Vallicella Library in the
institute of the Congregation of the Oratory. It responded to the idea of the Oratorians’, an open
and public library that accepts all visitors seeking knowledge. For visitors, Borromini arranged
available reading rooms to study freely, considering their use of terraces. Not only for visitors’
convenience but also for the Oratorians’ in order not to disturb the private life, Borromini
carefully examined the vertical and horizontal movement and the plans of the library and each
room related to it.
For the preacher as a guest staying in the building for a certain period, Borromini also made
him easy to use the library, secured a flow line that did not intersect with the area of the
Oratorians’ rooms, and arranged his rooms.
As a symbol of the Congregation of the Oratory of a high intellectual level, and with a huge
collection of books, Borromini creates a spacious view in the decorative and impressive main
room of the library surrounded only by book shelves equipped a book table.departmental bulletin pape

The Dissolution of the Self -The history of human nature’s self from Homo Sapiens to Homo Machinalius on the perspective of Phenomenology-
In the last paper I argued about the identity of Homo Machinalius, which will have been
born by integrating robots, AI and Homo Sapiens. In it I was based on the singularity theory,
although it has radical aporias. The aporias are five. One is the aim of the study of AI is not the
life intelligence but the absolute knowledge. Two is the symbolic ground problem. Three is the
frame problem. Four is the problem based on the simple realism and the causality law. Five is
the ultimate goal of studying AI is the omniscient ability, the God( Homo Deus). An abyss hard
to surpass lies between Homo Sapience and Homo Machinalius as long as based on our modern
science and technology. But this situation does not mean the study on Homo Machinalius is
useless.
Homo Machinalius can change their bodies, brains and memories always and anywhere. The
identity of Homo Machinalius is quite different from that of Homo Sapiens. Looking at the
history of Homo Sapiens, the self is the product of Modern Times. If Homo Sapiens will evolve
to Homo Machinalius, the history of the human nature’s self can describe as this; in pre-modern
the human nature had not possessed the self, in modern they acquired the self with inevitability,
in the future the inevitability of the self will be lost. That is the dissolution of the self.departmental bulletin pape
A study on innovation emergence utilizing tourism: An implication of new tourism utility
There have been many cases where entrepreneurs found business opportunities when
traveling overseas and achieved innovation. With this in mind, this research( a) precisely looks
at three cases, (b) analyzes their innovation process, and (c) clarifies the mechanism of the
innovation emergence which makes good use of tourism. As the consequence of investigation,
this paper argues that the innovation process taking the tourism process into consideration has
the following five steps. Step 1: People involved have an awareness of their business issue. Step
2: They have intellectual curiosity and carefully observe business environment. Step 3: They
live in a place for a while, explore the cause and effect relationship between facts and business
background, and break down the fixed ideas of the business. Step 4: They create their own
vision and plan their schedule based on how many days they have until the deadline. Step 5:
Employers and employees share their vison and achieve innovation success. Furthermore, this
paper also suggests that travel agents should organize study tour programs to create innovation,
which includes the required conditions on not only on a trip but also before and after trip. This
shows the utility of tourism.departmental bulletin pape

Planning Task-Based Classes - Developing an ‘Introduction to English Communication’ -
This paper is a practical report on our new subject,“ Introduction to English Communication,
or 英語コミュニケーション入門”. This subject is prepared for our students to have meaningful
communicative experiences through Task-Based Language Teaching. Also, the goal of the class
is for our students to have a lot of opportunities to use English while receiving interactional
modification. The method of teaching in this class is for all seven faculty teachers to be jointly
in charge of this subject, including two native speakers of English and five non-native speakers
of English. The more than seventy students are divided into seven groups and are all given the
same task in that group. This system enables our students to seek help with ease, and to
advance in using English in a cooperative studying environment. The result of a questionnaire
held in July showed that most students felt satisfied with this class. All the tasks were a success
in terms of this subject’s goals and the goals of the class.departmental bulletin pape
Quality characteristics of bagels upon steam heating
Bagels are usually boiled after secondary fermentation; however, in the present study, bagels
were prepared via steam heating and their quality characteristics were examined and compared.
To constitute the study sample, bagels boiled for 1 min comprised the control, and steam heating
was performed for 1 and 3 min. For the measurement items, shape measurement, measurement
of color difference, moisture content, rupture measurement, and sensory evaluation were
performed for the bagels.Upon shape measurement, significantly lower values for volume and
outer diameter were obtained upon steam heating, compared to the control, and the height was
greater in the case of bagels subjected to steam heating for 1 min. There were no significant
differences in the color tone of the crust and the moisture content. Upon rupture measurement,
bagels subjected to steam heating for 3 min displayed the highest value for hardness of the
crust and crumbs. Upon analytical sensory evaluation, bagels subjected to steam heating for 3
min were evaluated as the hardest, and no significant difference was observed in all items upon
preference-type sensory evaluation. From the above results, it was suggested that despite steam
heating instead of boiling, bagels of comparable quality could be prepared.departmental bulletin pape
