    - Possibilities and Limitations of Remote Lectures during COVID-19 : A Study of the Department of Tourism and Culture, Komazawa Women’s University -

In this case study, we tried to understand the possibilities and the limits of remote lectures by comparing the teaching management methods before and after the coronavirus pandemic in the curriculum of the Department of Culture and Tourism at Komazawa Women’s University. We were able to confirm the learning outcomes for each type of remote lecture by focusing on and analyzing lectures of the hybrid type, interactive type, and on-demand type in turn. Regarding the internship as a hybrid type lecture, the superiority of face-to-face training is clear from the results of the student questionnaire, but the remote lecture showed a higher score in specific areas such as “practical ability,” “issue identification ability” and “planning ability.” As a result, we may conclude that it is necessary to design a lesson that uses a face-toface or remote format according to the student ability area on which the class was focused rather than simply selecting the mode of delivery arbitrarily. In “interactive remote lectures” and “on-demand type remote lectures” the degree of satisfaction was higher than in face-to-face lectures, according to the student questionnaires. A high level of satisfaction was indicated in both the questions relating to “the student’s selfevaluation” and “the student’s evaluation of the lesson.” The conclusion that the quality of the lectures has improved can be drawn not only from the results of the questionnaire, but also from the perspective of the instructor looking at the student’s reactions in each class reaction paper and report. However, both methods have limitations in terms of“ active learning,” and variations arise due to the teacher’s degree of understanding of the Learning Management System (LMS). In the case of remote lectures, the introduction of the Learning Management System has made it possible to record all lessons, allowing students to watch anytime, anywhere, and any number of times. Breaking away from the previous limited system, the possibilities of remote lectures using LMS are expanding. Furthermore, by digitizing the questionnaire function, it is possible to efficiently provide feedback to students and improve lessons. From the research analysis of this study, it became clear that both face-to-face lecture and remote lectures have both strengths and weaknesses, and should not therefore be considered in terms of a binary opposition. Therefore, it will be important to continue to use an LMS in all lessons and continue to develop it into a better management method for lecture management after the coronavirus pandemic has come to an end.departmental bulletin pape

Attempt of collaborative learning utilizing “relationship of preschool teachers to children” that students positively recognized through practical training: Toward the construction of a general-purpose preschool teacher model

departmental bulletin pape

Furocoumarins, including psoralen, have not been detected in the fruits of kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa and A. chinensis).

Many web sites written in Japanese provide very suspicious information that the fruits of kiwifruit are rich in psoralen, a phototoxic furocoumarin. In order to deny the suspicious information, the furocoumarin content in the fruit of ‘Hayward’ and ‘ZESY002’ kiwifruit was determined using reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). Furocoumarins(psoralen, 5-methoxypsoralen, 8-methoxypsoralen and angelicin)have not been detected in the fruits of both cultivars. The content of each furocoumarin in the fruits was estimated as less than 2.36 μg per 100 g flesh weight from the detection limit in the HPLC system. The results in the present study have obviously shown it is the false information that the fruits of kiwifruit are rich in psoralen.departmental bulletin pape

Analysis of the Changing Factors that Teacher-training Course Students Desire to be Teachers

    Get PDF
Though a certain number of students are currently enrolled in the Komazawa Women’s University teacher training course, few of them intend to be teachers in the future. The reasons for their not choosing to become teachers vary, but most stem from anxieties about embarking on that career path. One of the main aims of this paper is to identify the causes of these anxieties and suggest means to address the students’ concerns. The 16 senior teacher training course students, who belong to the Japanese Culture Studies Department and the English Communication Studies Department, were asked to indicate their level of desire to be teachers using percentage figures. They were also asked to write the reasons why they want to be or do not want to be teachers. The research was carried out based on students’ reflections focusing on six time points; 1. Immediately after entering university, 2. At the beginning of the second year, 3. At the beginning of the third year, 4. January in the junior year, 5. During or just after the teaching practices, and 6. August in the senior year. Microsoft Excel and KH coder were used to analyze the data. This study shows that students feel insecure about a number of factors. These insecurities ought to be removed from the teacher training course students, and various means of doing so are discussed in this paper.departmental bulletin pape

The term Kyoto-kanke-shizoku refers to the low-level functionaries who served in the Imperial Court until 1869. They became unemployed and impoverished as a result of the Meiji Restoration. The organizations Heian-gikai and Kyoto-Ohkitsu-zaidan were founded to support them. Heian-gikai Siryo (the Historical Materials of the Heian-gikai) and Ohkitsu-zaidan Siryo (the Historical Materials of the Ohkitsu-zaidan) are the materials handed down from generation to generation in these organizations. In 2016, these materials were donated to the Kyoto Institute, Library and Archives. This text was written to introduce them for being used in the study on the Kyoto-kankeshizoku.The term Kyoto-kanke-shizoku refers to the low-level functionaries who served in the Imperial Court until 1869. A Dietary awareness survey involving female soccer players - focusing on rice and side-dish consumption -

    Get PDF
We examined soccer players belonging to the Japan Women’s Soccer League First Division to clarify their dietary awareness, specifically awareness of the importance of sufficiently consuming rice as an energy source and side dishes, including meat, fish, and eggs, supplement intake, and desires related to the muscle and body fat masses. Concerning rice consumption, 17% were , 45% were , and 28% were , whereas 39% were and 50% were of side-dish consumption, revealing that most players had a promoted awareness of the importance of sufficiently consuming side dishes, but their awareness about rice was relatively poor. The rate of ingesting supplements/supplementary foods was 11%, and that was 22%. The most frequent reason for such intake was <To efficiently obtain proteins>(6; 100%), and then (5; 83%). As many players answered that they were aware of the importance of sufficiently consuming side dishes, and they ingested supplements to obtain proteins or to increase the muscle strength, protein intake may have been a focus of their diets. In fact, the rates of <Desire to increase muscle mass> and were 78 and 72%, respectively. The results suggest the necessity of nutrition education for players to learn that not only protein-rich food/supplement intake but also appropriate energy intake is required, in order to increase the muscle mass.departmental bulletin pape
