    Get PDF
This study explores the relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) scores and financial performance in the global food and beverage industry. The study espouses quantitative research design and utilised dataset collected from Refinitiv Eikon, covering firm-year observations from 91 companies across different regions. Descriptive statistics reveals a mean ESG score of 59.762, indicating above-average transparency. Correlation analysis suggests weak relationships between ESG scores and financial indicators. Further, regression results show a positive impact of ESG scores on ROE, a non-significant relationship with ROA, and a negative impact on Tobin’s Q. These findings contribute to the ongoing debate on the connection between ESG practices and financial outcomes, providing insights into the specific context of the food and beverage industry. The study concludes by discussing the implications of the results and offered avenues for future research. JEL: G32; M14; O44  Article visualizations

THE IMPACT OF FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT ON THE CHANGE IN THAILAND'S INDUSTRIAL STRUCTURE

    Get PDF
Foreign direct investment (FDI) has played a significant role in Thailand's economic development. This study utilizes the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to analyse the impact of FDI on the change in Thailand's industrial structure. Based on the analysis results of the VECM model, it is evident that the impact of FDI on these changes is slightly smaller than that of the industrial structure itself; it is also positive. Both the industrial structure itself and FDI have long-term positive promoting effects on the change in Thailand's industrial structure. Furthermore, the impact of GDP per capita, imports and exports on changes in the industrial structure is subject to volatility. Initially, GDP per capita, imports, and exports had a short-term positive promoting effect on Thailand's industrial structure change. However, in the long term, the growth of these two economic factors constrains the change in Thailand's industrial structure. JEL: F21; O14; O53; C32; L52  Article visualizations

DYNAMICS OF EXCHANGE RATE AND FOREX RESERVES IN BANGLADESH: WAYS TO STABILIZE FOREIGN EXCHANGE RATE

    Get PDF
The exchange rate and foreign exchange reserves stand as pivotal determinants profoundly impacting external and overall economic conditions. A sustained equilibrium in exchange rates alongside robust reserve levels is imperative for managing inflation and fostering favorable trade balances, thereby, bolstering the nation's holistic economic well-being. This study scrutinizes the dynamic interplay of exchange rates and forex reserves in Bangladesh, drawing upon meticulously curated data from Bangladesh Bank and bruegel.org. Methodologically, the investigation relies on rigorous trend and growth models to elucidate pertinent patterns. The analysis unveils a phase of exchange rate stability vis-à-vis the USD to BDT currency pair pre-2022, followed by a marked escalation in recent years attributable to localized currency devaluation. Noteworthy is the trajectory divergence observed between the Nominal Effective Exchange Rate (NEER), demonstrating a downward trend, and the Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER), exhibiting a contrasting upward trajectory surpassing NEER. Moreover, a conspicuous surge in forex reserves is evident until early 2022, succeeded by a precipitous decline to precarious levels. This downturn is ascribed to multifaceted factors encompassing the Ukraine conflict, volatility in oil prices, burgeoning foreign debt obligations of public and private entities, dwindling Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows, and diminished remittances. The governmental response has entailed the adoption of short-term strategies aimed at mitigating exchange rate volatility and preserving forex reserves. While certain measures have proven efficacious, others have fallen short of desired outcomes. In pursuit of exchange rate stability, the central bank has instituted a crawling peg exchange rate regime, complemented by governmental interventions restricting imports to safeguard forex reserves. Achieving equilibrium mandates concerted governmental endeavors to invigorate remittance and FDI inflows, thus fostering a more robust economic landscape. JEL:  F31, G18, O24  Article visualizations

AN EXPLORATORY STUDY ON ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT GOOD PRACTICES IN THE MINING SECTOR IN SIERRA LEONE

    Get PDF
Environmental management plays a crucial role in improving public health and maintaining the health of ecosystems. Environmental management addresses the adverse impacts of human activities, including those caused by big companies, on the environment and aims to protect both human well-being and the natural world. It is important to note that the specific roles and responsibilities of national governments in environmental management may vary from country to country based on their legal and institutional frameworks. In addition, the government is often ascribed a pivotal role in protecting the environment through the implementation of environmental policies that protect the environment directly or solve environmental collective action problems. By applying checks and controls and actively managing environmental risks, the government seeks to protect human lives, safeguard property, and preserve the environment's health and integrity. A proactive approach to disaster management, coupled with sustainable environmental policies, can contribute to reducing the frequency and severity of environmental disasters in the long run. While governments play a central role in environmental protection, it is essential to recognize that the success of these efforts often depends on cooperation with private businesses, civil society organizations, scientists, and individuals. A comprehensive approach involving multiple stakeholders is crucial to achieving meaningful and lasting environmental conservation and sustainability. Legislatures have the authority to create laws, allocate resources, oversee government actions, and represent the interests of the public. When it comes to environmental matters, their involvement is instrumental in driving positive change and ensuring the implementation of policies that safeguard natural resources, promote sustainable development, and address pressing environmental challenges. It is worth noting that while the role of legislatures in advancing sustainable outcomes is crucial, successful environmental policymaking often involves collaboration among various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, industry representatives, scientists, and environmental experts. Policymaking processes encouraging inclusive participation can lead to more effective and balanced outcomes that resonate with the broader public and reflect a consensus on environmental protection and sustainability. Environmental management's ability to bridge various disciplines makes it a valuable approach to tackle complex environmental problems and promote sustainable solutions. The field plays a crucial role in ensuring the responsible use of natural resources and protecting the environment while considering economic and social factors for a balanced and sustainable future.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
The saying "leaders are born, not made" is frequently used to describe leaders especially those whose contributions stick in people's memories! So, who exactly is a leader? In essence, the ability to bring about the change one wants to see in their organization makes one a leader. Nowadays, a CEO of a business isn't always a leader. Conversely, someone possesses a set of competencies that further an organization's goals and objectives. An inadequate skill of a leader regarding management and guidance within a team or the business environment is referred to as poor leadership. There are several ways in which this can show up, including stating unclear objectives, inadequate communication among team members, a lack of accountability and transparency, and a lack of team member support to actualize results. An ineffective leadership may affect a team's ability to accomplish goals and objectives since it breeds mistrust and disdain for the leader. A widely acknowledged concept of leadership remains elusive despite extensive research. It is stated by Talat et al. (2015) that "there are almost as many definitions of leadership as there are people who have attempted to define the concept." Examples of these definitions include the ones that follow; leadership is a broad process that requires authority, accountability, and power delegation, according to Talat et al. (2015). Employees are followers of leaders in an organization, who need their assistance to enable them to achieve their own and the company's goals and objectives. This creates a win-win situation if managed properly. Hence, leadership styles encompass all facets of interacting inside and outside a company, managing or resolving problems, assisting and directing employees to do their jobs, and setting an example for others to follow and infuse.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
In order to shape employee performance and propel corporate progress, this essay examines the significance of organizational culture and human resources (HR) audits. The dynamic and competitive business climate of today has made the efficient management of human resources even more important. The purpose of HR auditing is to guarantee compliance, efficacy, and efficiency by thoroughly examining and assessing HR policies, practices, and procedures. Employee attitudes and actions are shaped by the common values, beliefs, and behaviors that make up the organizational culture. According to the article, HR audits are essential for improving worker performance and overall company development. Organizations can pinpoint areas for enhancement, appraise adherence to legal and regulatory mandates, and appraise the efficacy of their HR procedures by regularly undertaking audits. Finding gaps, dangers, and chances to optimize HR activities, rules, and practices is made easier with the aid of this careful review. Additionally, the essay highlights how important organizational culture is in shaping workers' productivity and the development of the company. Higher performance and productivity are the outcomes of a strong and supportive workplace culture that encourages employee motivation, engagement, and dedication. On the other hand, poor employee performance and inhibited organizational growth might result from a toxic or dysfunctional culture. A positive company culture can be shaped and reinforced by auditing methods, as demonstrated by the interaction between HR auditing and the culture that is examined. A culture that supports workers' performance and fosters organizational growth can be developed with the help of HR audits, which can show whether components of the organization's culture are in line with its objectives and core values. The article concludes that employees' performance and organizational success can be greatly impacted by a strategic approach to HR auditing in conjunction with a positive company culture. Organizations can maximize their human capital, improve employee happiness and retention, and achieve long-term sustainable growth by conducting frequent evaluations of HR procedures and cultivating a good culture.  Article visualizations
