In route, they visit a farmers market in Lancaster, Virginia; view a southern spring area in Staunton, Virginia; drive over Clinch Mountain; see the poverty of mountain miners and visit the Tennessee Valley Authority, where they have discussions with the administration and attend lectures. They also visit a test farm in Knoxville, Tennessee and see several small two room schoolhouses in Bakewell, Tennessee
