Uber Industry Analysis
Uber Technologies, Inc. is a global technology company that has transformed the transportation industry with its ride-hailing platform. Founded in 2009 in San Francisco, Uber connects passengers with drivers of hire vehicles through an easy-to-use mobile app. The company has since expanded its services to include food delivery through Uber Eats, freight transportation via Uber Freight, and even autonomous vehicle development. Operating in hundreds of cities around the world, Uber has changed the way people travel, providing convenience and flexible earning opportunities for drivers
Resource Guide for Parents: Educational Pamphlet on Safe Bottle Feeding
Safe oral feeding is a critical aspect of neonatal care in the NICU, especially for preterm infants who often lack the neurological maturity to coordinate the suck-swallow-breathe pattern essential for feeding. These infants require developmental support and evidence-based strategies to transition safely to oral feeds. Interventions such as pacing, chin support, and slow-flow bottles have been shown to enhance feeding tolerance and minimize the risk of aspiration. However, inconsistent feeding practices, often rooted in tradition rather than current evidence, can lead to adverse events and extended hospital stays. This project seeks to improve feeding safety and outcomes by implementing standardized, evidence-based protocols and providing comprehensive education for both clinical staff and parents. Through consistent practices and support, the initiative aims to ensure feeding readiness and safety, facilitating a smoother transition from hospital to home and promoting long-term developmental outcomes and quality of life
Capturing Abroad
While abroad for seven weeks, I brought my camera to document the trip. This experience was much more than sightseeing; I found myself. Through a combination of photos and written experiences, this paper dives into the complexities of traveling abroad through a personal lens. Each country contains a new adventure, dipping my toe into the unknown and grappling with the challenges of traveling the world. My trip has contributed to who I am today, making this work a vulnerable piece. Creatively writing about this trip has demonstrated my growth and allowed me to reflect on my time spent in Europe. Travel along with me through my time in Rome, Tuscany, London, Mykonos, Athens, Nice, and Positano
Netflix: Streaming Pioneer Turned Market Leader
Since its founding in 1997 as a DVD rental service, Netflix has led the streaming entertainment industry through innovation and adaptability. Its success stems from breaking industry norms and expanding into new areas. The research identifies the key factors behind Netflix’s long-term success and offers strategic recommendations, considering market trends, AI, and globalization’s impact on the media sector
Reducing Surgical Site Infections: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Chlorhexidine Gluconate Preoperative Baths
A significant contributor to readmission rates, extended hospital stays, and mortality, surgical site infections (SSIs) continue to be a major concern in postoperative care, affecting over 4% of surgical patients. In contrast to routine hospital procedures, this study examines the effectiveness of preoperative chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) showers in reducing the risk of surgical site infections. The study uses a PICO framework to assess two main studies: a 2022 quasi-experimental study that examined the impact of 4% CHG baths at Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, and a 2020 systematic review and meta-analysis that compared chlorhexidine and povidone-iodine. The use of CHG dramatically decreased the incidence of SSIs and the presence of bacteria, according to both studies. Although the systematic review indicated that chlorhexidine was more effective due to its antibacterial and fast-drying qualities, the 2022 study discovered that the CHG intervention group had 0% SSIs, while the control group had 8.3%. The nurse\u27s role in promoting CHG use and educating patients is to improve surgical outcomes and promote infection control
More Than a Sport: The Psychological Demands and Benefits of Being a DI Equestrian
This project explores the psychological demands and benefits of being a Division I equestrian athlete at Sacred Heart University. With a year-round season, rigorous training schedule, academic responsibilities, and strong commitment to community service, student-athletes on the team face unique challenges. A survey of current team members (N=24) assessed perceptions of time management, mental wellness, and personal growth. Results reveal that while athletes report elevated stress, pressure to perform, and social sacrifices, they also experience significant personal development, increased self-awareness, and improved teamwork skills. These findings highlight the complex mental landscape of collegiate equestrian athletes and underscore the dual impact of high-level sports participation
Resilience in Adversity: Older Refugees\u27 Experiences During COVID-19 Pandemic in the U.S.
The COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges, and older refugees faced unique vulnerabilities. They often experience social, psychological, and practical difficulties, compounded by forced migration and displacement (Miller & Rasmussen, 2017). These challenges are magnified by healthcare accessibility, language barriers, and discrimination. Unlike the general population, older refugees navigated these issues alongside the stress of displacement. Understanding how they coped during crises like COVID-19 is critical for developing support systems. Thirty-seven Congolese refugees, aged 55–67 (average 65.7 years), were recruited from an East Coast U.S. community. The study explored their perceptions of life during COVID-19, particularly how they coped. Participants were interviewed for 35–65 minutes, discussing changes in daily life, healthcare, and social interactions. Thematic content analysis identified key patterns in their responses. Older Congolese refugees faced pronounced challenges due to their background. Many reported increased social isolation, worsened by limited language interpreters and service access. Coping strategies reflected cultural values and refugee experiences, including traditional medicine and cognitive reframing.Findings highlight the need for culturally tailored interventions. Providing access to health information, language services, and mental health support can improve older refugees\u27 well-being in future crises
Object Detection and Avoidance System using Velodyne 3D LiDAR and MATLAB
This project aims to design a system that has the ability to detect objects that could interfere with a drone that is in the process of landing. The implementation of this system includes the use of a 3D Velodyne LiDAR Puck VLP-16, MATLAB, and an Arduino Uno. The system outputs a green light once the program determines it is safe to land and a red light when an object is detected, thus determining it is not safe to land. This project is a continuation and evolution of a past system that used a 2D LiDAR with a tilting mechanism. Current outcomes include running a MATLAB program to receive two values: whether an object is detected, and the distance of that object from the LiDAR. These values are then sent to an Arduino Uno to be displayed to the user through an LCD display. The LiDAR sends UDP packets through the Ethernet port to the computer. These UDP points make up the point clouds (PCs) that the MATLAB code reads. Overall, this abstract seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of building object detection for a drone with a 3D LiDAR sensor
