Building Capacity for Knowledge Translation in Rehabilitation: The Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy’s Knowledge Translation Summit
Background and Purpose:
Enhancing health care through the implementation of evidence-based practices is a complex task, demanding specialized expertise and a distinct set of skills to facilitate success. A knowledge translation (KT) capacity-building initiative is a process that leads to greater individual, organizational, or system capabilities to translate high-quality evidence, such as clinical practice guidelines, into practice. The KT Summit, a KT capacity-building initiative, was developed by the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy and includes an in-person workshop, quarterly reports, mentoring for 2 years, and a funding opportunity. The purpose of this manuscript is to describe the development, implementation, and outcomes of the KT Summit over a 6-year period. Summary of Key Points:
In this special interest article, we describe the KT Summit’s development and evolution, application process, education and training format, curriculum, funding opportunity, outcomes, and lessons learned. Over the initial 3 cohorts, there was a notable increase in the number of projects initiated and groups. Furthermore, there was a substantial decline in the failure rate of projects, decreasing from 50% to 15% over time. This article outlines the reported contributors to success and the ways the participants used their KT education. Recommendations for Clinical Practice:
This article highlights an education and training method that resulted in successful implementation initiatives across several health care organizations. Factors that contributed to KT success included participating in the KT Summit, support from organizational leadership, and a local champion. More research is needed to evaluate the optimal components and economic outcomes of KT capacity-building initiatives
The Role of Microfinance in Improving Global Economy
This study investigates microfinance’s role in enhancing the global economy by examining its impact on economic growth, unemployment, and political stability. Secondary data from MIX Market and WDI were used in this study to assess these relationships. Multiple regression was conducted with EViews software to test regression models with the independent variables related to microfinance and microfinance institutions (MFIs). Using the data from South Asia and Southeast Asian countries, this study finds that microfinance significantly improves economic growth, reduces the unemployment rate, and strengthens political stability. Microeconomic variables used in the study are borrowing amounts and the cost per borrower. MFIs’ performance is measured by MFIs’ returns on assets, loan loss rate, and operational self-sufficiency ratio. Multiple regression analyses also control for other MFI-related and macroeconomic factors. While microfinance has strong impacts on economic growth and political stability, the impacts of MFIs’ performance are mixed on these variables. These findings highlight the importance of tailoring microfinance strategies to maximize economic benefits and contribute to sustainable development within diverse economic contexts
Changing Mindsets: Building Teacher Efficacy to Increase School Connectedness & Reduce Disruptive Behaviors
This mixed-methods Improvement Science study examined how targeted professional development on developmentally appropriate behavioral expectations and academic mindset impacts teacher efficacy, student-teacher relationships, and disruptive behaviors in a middle school setting. Quantitative data from pre- and post-intervention Teacher Self-Efficacy Scales and discipline referrals were analyzed alongside qualitative data from journal reflections, empathy interviews, and student characteristic posters. Findings indicated a significant increase in teacher self-efficacy and a reduction in disruptive behaviors. Teachers reported improved confidence in managing behavior, greater use of proactive strategies, and stronger relationships with students. The convergence of quantitative and qualitative data suggests that when educators are equipped with developmentally responsive strategies, both student engagement and school connectedness improve. This study highlights the importance of aligning behavioral expectations with adolescent development to foster positive classroom climates and enhance student outcomes
Discontinuing Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists and Body Habitus: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Research on Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) has mainly focused on the efficacy of weight loss and not the long-term efficacy of weight loss maintenance. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the sustainability of weight loss of patients taking GLP-1RAs following the discontinuation of the drug. EBSCOhost was used to simultaneously search Academic Search Premier, CINHAL Ultimate, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE with full text, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and separate PubMed search was systematically investigated using a predetermined search strategy from inception to February 1st, 2024. The authors extracted data regarding body weight change from baseline on treatment and off treatment, change in waist circumference from baseline on and off treatment, and change in BMI from baseline on and off treatment. Meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan (version 5.4) to calculate pooled mean differences using a Der Simonian-Laird Random Effects model. ResultsThe initial search yielded 497 relevant articles and, after screening, retained 8 randomized controlled trials comprised of 2372 participants, all with a BMI ≥ 27 kg/m2. After discontinuing GLP-1RA therapy, weight regain was proportional to the original weight loss. Participants who took liraglutide regained 2.20 kg (95% CI 1.69 to 2.70, P \u3c 0.00001), and participants taking semaglutide/tirzepatide regained 9.69 kg (95% CI 5.78 to 13.60, P \u3c 0.00001). This systematic review and meta-analysis show that significant weight is regained after discontinuing GLP-1RA treatment, which should be discussed when stopping therapy

Improving Early Intervention Team Practices: A Single-Case Design
This dissertation examined how a high school’s Early Intervention Team (EIT) identifies and supports disengaged students. The researcher focused on applying Team-Initiated Problem Solving (TIPS) protocols within Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to enhance team effectiveness. Grounded in the Improvement Science framework, this study followed the process of identifying a problem of practice, understanding root causes, developing and testing change ideas, and measuring impact. The researcher utilized a mixed methods single-case design to investigate how professional development influenced EIT practices, particularly in meeting foundations and problem solving. During the initial phase, a comprehensive root cause analysis identified key factors contributing to student disengagement, including absenteeism, academic struggles, and behavioral challenges. Next, the researcher implemented targeted professional development sessions centered on TIPS protocols to refine the EIT’s weekly meetings and improve the early identification of disengaged students. The researcher collected data through participant journals, meeting observations, and self-assessed TIPS rubrics to measure the team’s growth in collaboration and consistency. Findings suggest that integrating TIPS protocols strengthened team functioning and increased the EIT’s capacity to address student disengagement proactively. This research highlights the importance of adult practices— particularly meeting foundations and problem solving—in supporting student engagement. Although limited to a single case, the study offers practical recommendations for refining EIT practices and guiding professional development in other schools. Future researchers can build on vi these findings to explore how collaborative frameworks like TIPS enhance team effectiveness across various educational contexts
Northeastern United States Traffic Accident Trends: A Geospatial and Statistical Analysis Using Python
Traffic accidents remain a critical issue globally, with significant implications for public health, safety, and economic stability. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of traffic accident trends in the northeastern United States, focusing on Connecticut and its neighboring states–New York, New Jersey, New Hamp-shire, and Massachusetts. By leveraging a dataset encompassing fatal collisions, driver behaviors, and car insurance premiums, this work investigates correlations between risky driving habits, accident outcomes, and the associated financial impacts. Key metrics analyzed include speeding-related incidents, alcohol-impaired driving, distracted driving, and their influence on insurance costs and claims. Rigorous data preprocessing methodology was employed, including normalization, outlier detec-tion, and feature selection, ensuring a robust and reliable dataset for analysis. The study used advanced visualization techniques and statistical modeling, utilizing Python libraries like Pandas, Matplotlib, and Scikit-learn, to identify trends and derive actionable insights. Comparative analysis reveals that while neighboring states such as Massachusetts and New York excel in certain safety metrics, Connecticut lags in addressing critical behavioral risks like speeding and alcohol impairment
The Direction of ESG for SMEs: From Bureaucracy to Innovation
Environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles were initially conceived as a transformative framework to promote sustainability, accountability and more ethical business practices. Over time, however, the focus of ESG has shifted and several unexpected and inadvertent consequences have begun to materialize. For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), what was intended as a guiding light often became a burdensome labyrinth of bureaucratic compliance (Passerini et al., 2024). Instead of empowering these enterprises to drive innovation and develop localized solutions to social issues, current ESG frameworks and subsequent regulations often
