    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate the effect of impression management on employee contextual performance in service organizations using quantitative methods. The social influence theory, which explains the role of superior influence over the subordinate, served as the theoretical underpinning for the study. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted in line with positivism research philosophy. The accessible population of this study consists of one hundred selected service-oriented firms (four-star hotels, fast food restaurants, and travel agencies) operating in the southern part of Nigeria. The sample consists of middle managers, human resource managers, front desk officers, housekeepers, and customer relationship managers. Frequency distribution was used to analyze participants' profiles, while linear regression was employed to analyze the formulated hypotheses. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 20.0 served as statistical software. Linear regression results suggest that self-promotion exerted a significant positive effect on co-worker support. Ingratiation demonstrated a significant positive effect on customer satisfaction. It appears that exemplification exerted a significant positive effect on enterprise compliance. The outcome of this study has demonstrated that traditional managerial skills can no longer hold water in contemporary service-oriented organizations because of the workplace's dynamic and changing technological structure. This study concludes that impression management can assist managers in influencing their employees positively to achieve organizational objectives. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-02-05 Full Text: PD

    Get PDF
The main aim of this study is to measure the dynamic connectedness and spillover effects among emerging stock markets in Asia and the developed stock markets of the US and Europe in the ongoing Ukrainian crisis. The paper also aims to provide a comparative analysis of return and volatility spillovers during the global financial crisis in 2008, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Ukrainian crisis. This paper utilizes the multiple structural beak test of Bai & Perron (2003) and also depicts the risk and return transmissions among these markets using the Diebold & Yilmaz (2012) method. The main outcomes of this study indicate that the stock markets in Asia are less affected by the political crisis in Ukraine as compared to the previous effects during the GFC and COVID-19 periods. The results also show that sensitivity of Asian financial markets to global shocks has been weakened in the wake of the Ukrainian crisis in favour of increased resilience of Asian stock indices to external shocks. These results carry an important implication for international and local investors as well as for policy makers in Asia, where investors have greater potentials for portfolio diversify and risk reduction across Asian markets. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-02-04 Full Text: PD

Using machine learning algorithms for the rapid diagnosis and detection of the COVID-19 pandemic and isolating the patients from crowded environments are very important to controlling the epidemic. This study aims to develop a point-of-care testing (POCT) system that can detect COVID-19 by detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in a patient's exhaled breath using the Gradient Boosted Trees Learner Algorithm. 294 breath samples were collected from 142 patients at Istanbul Medipol Mega Hospital between December 2020 and March 2021. 84 cases out of 142 resulted in negatives, and 58 cases resulted in positives. All these breath samples have been converted into numeric values through five air sensors. 10% of the data have been used for the validation of the model, while 75% of the test data have been used for training an AI model to predict the coronavirus presence. 25% have been used for testing. The SMOTE oversampling method was used to increase the training set size and reduce the imbalance of negative and positive classes in training and test data. Different machine learning algorithms have also been tried to develop the e-nose model. The test results have suggested that the Gradient Boosting algorithm created the best model. The Gradient Boosting model provides 95% recall when predicting COVID-19 positive patients and 96% accuracy when predicting COVID-19 negative patients. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-SPER-08 Full Text: PD

    Get PDF
In the era of digitalization of education and economy and the development of artificial intelligence, adolescents appear highly competitive compared with other generations in understanding digital technologies, acquiring expertise, and mastering modern means of communication, which normally causes intergenerational conflicts and the loss of an adult's personal and functional authority. The aim of this research was to develop and test a model for developing adolescents' communicative cultures in an institution of additional education. The research emphasizes the significance of personality-oriented, interactive-communicative, and cultural approaches and conducts a comparative analysis of the sources. Methodologically, the study relies on a quantitative method with primary sources. Besides, the findings of the study contribute to the existing limited stress on the importance of adolescents' communicative cultures from the perspective of the digitalization of additional education. The study finds that the use of digital options in education has reduced social interaction among students. However, the students prefer to use digital methods of learning as they find them more convenient for communication. Therefore, the digital communication culture has high potential in the educational sector. The findings are novel as this study is one of the few recent studies that examined how communicative culture has transformed due to digital means in education. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2022-SIED-019 Full Text: PD

The presence of COVID-19 has transformed the business sector's paradigm and prompted a speedy consumption of mobile payment software systems of diverse ranges. Corporate sectors and businesses across the globe brought a shift to offer mobile payment methods; consequently, consumers were urged to maximize the use of mobile payment throughout the pandemic. The present research aims to investigate the factors that might influence consumers' intent to accept mobile payments and their relationships during COVID-19. The technology adoption model and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology were employed in this proposed mobile payment adoption framework. A quantitative research approach was identified as a suitable method for this research. An online survey was administered, and 304 participants responded to the questionnaire. The results of the data analysis revealed statistically significant relationships and a positive impact of the factors perceived performance, social influence, consumers' satisfaction, and perceived usefulness on consumers' usage continuation intention. However, the results identified that factors such as transaction risk didn't affect perceived usefulness, and financial transaction transparency didn't affect consumers' usage intention. This study makes a substantial contribution to the consumers' technology acceptance literature in terms of validating a proposed theoretical framework that highlights the factors that influence consumers' mobile payment usage intentions. As this study was conducted at a later stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, it adds value to the existing literature by providing insights to business managers on the factors influencing mobile payment usage. Considering the practical perspective, this study offers evidence of the essential elements that mobile payment service designers and marketers should consider. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-05-07 Full Text: PD

    Get PDF
Many companies are utilizing short-form video platforms to enhance the value co-creation between brands and consumers and ultimately create brand equity. However, there is a research gap in the present literature regarding the significance of consumers' participation in short-form video platforms affecting corporate brand equity. The present study aims to address this research gap by incorporating value co-creation theory to investigate the role and mechanism of value co-creation generated by consumer participation in short-form video platforms, i.e., corporate-initiated value co-creation and customer-initiated value co-creation, on corporate brand equity. The current study used a survey methodology to collect 481 samples from TikTok users using a convenience sampling method. The present study used structural equation modeling on the collected data. The findings show that corporate-initiated value co-creation can positively influence corporate brand equity, in which brand experience plays a partially mediating role. Customer-initiated value co-creation can also promote brand equity, whose role is also partially mediated by brand experience. This study theoretically contributes to the value co-creation concept and its theoretical association with brand equity and brand experience. This research also offers practical implications for practitioners regarding the utilization and enhancement of brand experience to improve clients' engagement in value co-creation activities. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-05-09 Full Text: PD

    Get PDF
The research aim is to examine the possibilities of including the sodium humate (NaHum) additive derived from freshwater sapropel in feed to identify its effects on growth performance, promote haematopoiesis, and modulate the microbiota of the intestinal tract. The research was done under production conditions, complying with Latvian and European Union legislation on the keeping, feeding, and welfare of farm animals. The research had three replications, and for each of them, two groups of Holstein breeding heifers were established: control (3xn=7) and research (3xn=7). The duration of each replication was 9 days in the adaptation period and 105 days in the research period. The heifers of the research group received the NaHum solution additive with feed from the 1st to 35th day (stage 1) at an intake rate of 0.4 mL/kg of live weight, from the 36th to 70th day (stage 2) at an intake rate of 0.5 mL/kg of live weight, and from the 71st to 105th day (stage 3) at an intake rate of 0.6 mL/kg of live weight. The breeding heifers of the research group, receiving NaHum at an intake rate of 0.6 mL/kg of live weight, achieved a significantly higher live weight gain at stage 3 and an overall numerically higher live weight gain (by 4.8 kg) than the control group during the research period. Consequently, a significantly higher relative growth ratio (0.334) was found in the research group at stage 3, which was 0.028 higher than that in the control group. The Lactobacillus spp. count in faecal samples was steady at the end of the research; a significant difference was found between groups, with the average ranging between 6.95 (control group) and 8.49 log CFU/g (research (NaHum) group). The novelty of the research is that it was scientifically proven that feeding the NaHum additive derived from freshwater lake sapropel to the breeding Holstein heifers up to 5 months of age increased their feed intake and live weight gain, as well as activity and health. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-04-023 Full Text: PD

The Role of Self-Awareness in Predicting the Level of Emotional Regulation Difficulties among Faculty Members

    Get PDF
University faculty members seek to regulate emotions to achieve professional and social goals in the work environment. The process of emotion regulation is influenced by self-awareness, as self-awareness is an important predictor of self-regulation, and the outcomes of the self-regulation process depend, in part, on the level of self-awareness. The purpose of the present paper was to examine whether or not self-awareness is used to predict emotional regulation difficulties among faculty members. The current quantitative study was designed using a survey research design. The participants comprised 172 faculty members from Philadelphia University in Jordan, the Arab Open University in Jordan, and Al Falah University in the U.A.E. Data were collected using the Self-Awareness Scale (SAS) and Emotional Regulation Difficulties Scale (ERDS). The researchers revealed that increasing the self-awareness subscale (self-critical) decreases the non-acceptance of emotional responses. The researchers also found that when there is an increase in the self-awareness subscale (desire for realistic awareness), there is a tendency toward lower levels of non-acceptance of emotional responses and difficulties engaging in goal-directed. Researchers also came to that an increase in the self-awareness subscale (self-reflection) decreases the non-acceptance of emotional responses, difficulties engaging in goal-directed and impulse control difficulties. The researchers concluded there is a need to work on university faculties' self-awareness and emotional regulation to balance realistic awareness and emotional responses related to task engagement and control difficulties. Based on the findings, it is concluded that it is necessary to pay attention to enhancing self-awareness and emotion regulation among faculty members in general and conduct more scientific studies on emotional regulation difficulties to examine their relationship with other variables. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-04-017 Full Text: PD
