    Get PDF
This study examined the relationship between mastery goals, including task-based and self-based competence, and positive emotions, engagement, relationship, meaning, and accomplishment (PERMA), which may affect life satisfaction. Mastery goals, PERMA, and life satisfaction were examined using a relationship study model. The current study involved 260 English education programs, with 81 (31.2%) male students and 179 (68.8%) female students. AMOS 18 was used to conduct a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results of the current study demonstrate that task-based competence influences life satisfaction. In contrast, self-based competence was found not to affect life satisfaction. Analysis of SEM revealed significant influences of task-based competence on PERMA and no significant relationships between self-based competence and PERMA. PERMA partially mediates the influence of task-related competence on life satisfaction. The indirect effects of self-based competence on life satisfaction were observed through PERMA as a complete mediator. The novelty of the current research lies in its focus on mastery goals, the target population of college students, and the mediating role of PERMA. These contributions are critical, as teachers or instructors are responsible for developing student well-being and life satisfaction. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-SIED2-018 Full Text: PD

Introduction: Many studies were done earlier to understand the role of climatic, environmental, and sociodemographic factors in the transmission, spread, and viability of SARS-CoV-2. Objectives: While there are principal climatic factors that influence the transmission and spread, specific factors such as latitude and water body mass are not critically examined. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the role of latitude and heat flux from water body mass in coastal environs on the resurgence and incidence of COVID. Methodology: A study was conducted examining the cases reported per million population, latitude degrees, and coastline length in two criteria groups (n = 120 and 10) spanning five geographic continental regions. The collected data were statistically analyzed to validate the three prepositions of the study. Findings: The cases reported per million population were least in countries lying below 25Ëš-degree latitude, and countries in this range have the mean highest coastline length. Our analysis in the n = 120 group reveals a moderate relationship among rises in cases with latitude degrees (r = 0.425, p < 0.01, n =120) but is associated negatively with coastline length. From the top countries having the longest coastline length, the association among the variables reveals a weak relationship exists between cases and latitude (r = 0.356, p = 0.312, n = 10), while no correlation is observed with coastline length. Novelty:A rise in the incidence rate and the global resurgence of cases can be explained by previous researchers considering climatic variables and socio-demographic factors. However, other parameters, such as the latent heat of evaporation from water body mass in coastal zones in different latitudinal countries, on the incidence and resurgence patterns are examined in this study. Observations indicate that the disease incidence trend is not similar across all countries and that no single factor fully influences the rise in cases. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-05-024 Full Text: PD

    Get PDF
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) constitute the vital economic fabric of Thailand, catalyzing growth and employment opportunities. However, the advent of disruptive events, exemplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, poses formidable challenges to their sustainable development. Adequate cost management and supply chain management are crucial for these SMEs to sustain themselves through disruptive scenarios. This study aims at exploring, understanding, and analyzing various factors that would impact the reduced vulnerability of SMEs and enhance the sustainability of the Thai economy. The methodology adopted for this research is the qualitative method. The data has been collected through semi-structured interviews and in-depth interviews, and secondary data has been collected through online and printed sources. The data analysis involves content analysis of the themes that are deduced from the extensive literature review. Furthermore, the data has been analyzed with Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threats (SWOT) to analyze the impacts of internal and external factors on the sustainability of the SMEs. The study's findings divulge a spectrum of challenges spanning cost management intricacies, socio-cultural influences, and economic nuances that collectively impede SME progress. The absence of effective governmental policies, regulations, and actual need assessments of society and the economy results in enhanced vulnerabilities for SMEs. Similarly, the risk perceptions of the SMEs were found to be inaccurate, which led to ineffective cost management strategies and supply chain management during the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings cover the existing literature gap. The research paves the way for further micro-level research into the amalgamated impact of cost management and adequate supply chain management, especially during disruptive events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-018 Full Text: PD

Clarification of the Present Understanding of the Assessment of an Organization's Digital Readiness in SMEs

    Get PDF
The role of digital transformation (DT) in economic development is a vital and recurring point of research. It is particularly relevant if we consider the high percentage of digital transformation initiatives that fail to deliver the expected results, particularly in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This paper analyzes what is needed to make this transformation successful from an implementation perspective and, simultaneously, from the standpoint of obtaining the company's expected results. This phenomenon is even more critical to decipher and understand when we look at the small and medium enterprises that face more significant challenges due to the scarcity of resources and needed skills. This work reviews a large variety of models through an extensive systematic literature review (SLR) that assess the readiness and maturity of the digital transformation of enterprises, with a focus on SMEs, with its primary objectives being (1) to review the existing studies and models that assess an organization's maturity and readiness in the context of digital transformation, focusing on SMEs; (2) to identify if there are gaps considering the importance of the SMEs; and (3) to propose a standardized set of dimensions that should always be considered in a digital transformation assessment. The outcome of this research provides an essential contribution by identifying apparent gaps in the assessment of digital transformation in SMEs and proposing a scalable and standardized set of categories and subcategories that can be used across any future assessment model. These contributions are even more relevant when referencing minimal deep research in the context of SMEs and Digital Transformation. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-06-025 Full Text: PD
