25 slides.-- Presentation delivered by Marc Goovaerts within the "National session (II)"The Sceiba project for improving quality control and monitoring of scientific research results at a national and institutional level took place in 2019-2022 under the VLIR-UOS programme of Flemish international university cooperation. Sceiba was designed as a cooperation initiative between universities in Cuba (Universidad de La Habana, Universidad de Pinar del Río), Peru (Universidad Agraria de La Molina, Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola) and Flanders (Hasselt University, University of Antwerp). The project objectives were (i) to strengthen the methods for evaluation and monitoring of research results (and specifically of scientific publications) at the national and institutional levels and (ii) the integration of research evaluation methodologies in the international context. The general goal was to improve the quality of scientific publications as part of research output

The Role of Universities in the Implementation of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs)

    No full text
Includes presentation (18 slides) and camera-ready paper (10 pages).-- Presented by Pablo de Castro within the EUNIS 2023 session "IT Support for Research 3".-- Event programme available at https://www.eunis.org/eunis2023/schedule/The report “Building the plane as we fly it: the promise of persistent identifiers” was published last February by the Knowledge Exchange. The report explores the challenges, opportunities, risks and trust-related issues associated with the quickly-developing PID landscape with an emphasis on the six KE member countries (Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands and the United Kingdom). A series of seven complementary case studies were published alongside this report examining more in depth the current PID landscape for specific entities such as authors, organisations, instruments and facilities, grants and projects or physical samples. The report summarises the findings of a series of interviews with PID experts that provided the basis for the study. Sets of recommendations are also provided for a range of relevant stakeholders in the PID implementation domain. The current fragmentation of the PID landscape is one of the main challenges highlighted in the report and the case studies. This contribution provides a summary of the findings of this study and analyses this fragmented PID landscape in some detail, specifically exploring the meaning of “community” in expressions like “a community-driven PID landscape”. The role universities are expected to play in the gradual, unstoppable adoption of a wide range of PIDs is laid out, together with some early best practices in the domain

    Supporting European-wide research information – OpenAIRE-related workflows

22 slides.-- Presentation delivered by Andreas Czerniak within the session "An update on the CRISCROS WG"OpenAIRE, the Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe, harvests research information systems – together with other ~2,000 data-sources – on a weekly basis through the OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS managers. Based on the open metadata for research outputs together with links to scientific products, access right information, metrics, as well as links to funding, project information and research communities, the OpenAIRE Research Graph is created on a monthly basis. The OpenAIRE Research Graph, in combination with a trusted onboarding process in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), provides the basis for the EOSC Research Product Catalogue. The presentation describes the onboarding workflow for Research Information Systems (CRIS) in OpenAIRE as well as the relations to the EOSC Service/Data-Source onboarding, the EOSC Research Product Catalogue and their benefits

Research Information Management (RIM)/Current Research Information (CRIS) Systems for Research Organizations: A Project Brief from the Open-Source VIVO Community

    No full text
Includes presentation (36 slides) and full paper (10 pages).-- Presented by Anna Guillaumet within the EUNIS 2023 session "IT Support for Research 3".-- Event programme available at https://www.eunis.org/eunis2023/schedule/The use of Research Information Management (RIM) or Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) can significantly enhance the efficiency and innovation capacity of research organizations. RIM/CRIS systems aggregate, curate, and utilize diverse data on institutional research activities, enabling the strategic utilization of data for decision-making. VIVO is an open-source RIM/CRIS system that enables the recording, editing, searching, browsing, and visualizing of scholarly activity using linked open data. VIVO is customizable and supports additional domains of scholarly activity. The VIVO community is actively engaged in developing and evolving the system to expand its usability and utility through internationalization, multilanguage capabilities, installation of new versions, and API improvements. As an open-source RIM/CRIS system, VIVO is customizable to suit the unique use cases of an institution. Institutions own and control their data, enabling them to manage their privacy or security needs. Moreover, VIVO supports the move towards open science practices as an open, semantic system.Different use cases with different approaches using VIVO are shown, which can serve, among others, as showcasing, research collaboration, data visualization & impact and researchers & research assessment and evaluation

Dialnet CRIS: Data Aggregation to build a National CRIS

    No full text
29 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the session "An update on the CRISCROS WG".-- Includes extended abstract submitted to the eventDialnet CRIS is gradually consolidating as a service to provide research information management and public visibility to research institutions as well as a tool to build multiple-organisation research portals. The latest milestone has been the confluence with the Hércules Project to build a National portal. This will provide Dialnet CRIS with the whole picture of the Research Information in Spain. The presentation summarises the services offered by Dialnet and how its research portals are gradually been adopted by institutions across the whole country and even as a suitable solution for regional research information aggregations

15 slides.-- Presentation delivered by Sadia Vancauwenbergh within the "National session (I)"The Centre for Research and Development Monitoring (ECOOM) of the Flemish Community is an interuniversity consortium of all Flemish universities. ECOOM develops research and development (R&D) and innovation indicators for the Flemish government, which form the basis for funding models and research reporting in Flanders. ECOOM is also a strategic partner for the Flanders Research Information Space (FRIS), providing support for the standardisation and classification of research information in the regional CRIS. The presentation describes ECOOM and its strategic partnership with FRIS

BrCris within a much wider national/regional CRIS ‘family’

25 slides.-- Presentation delivered at the launch event for the BrCris national CRIS in Brazil held at IBICT on Jul 18, 2023.-- Event recording available in the IBICT YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12OhugUeGNY&t=9sThe presentation provides a context for the newly-launched Brazilian national CRIS BrCris, which joins a much wider "family" of national research information management systems worldwide. The CRIS landscape is examined -- particularly in Latin America -- on the basis of the information held in the euroCRIS Directory of Research Information Systems (DRIS). Specific emphasis is made on the prominence of open source CRIS solutions in the region, with VIVO (that BrCris is based on, same as the national CONECTO platform in Panama) and DSpace-CRIS as the main open source CRIS platforms in the region. The recently launched CRISCROS working group for national and regional CRIS is introduced as a forum for an international discussion and exchange of best practices in the domain
