E-learning and knowledge management: Models and experiences at Tecnológico de Monterrey via the Virtual University and the research chairs program

    No full text
In this talk, we will describe an e-Learning model that was developed at Tecnológico de Monterrey for delivering graduate and undergraduate level programs as well as corporate training in engineering, business, and education through its ITESM Virtual University. Experiences and lessons learned during the last 25 years of operation in various countries will be summarized including curriculum design, technological platforms, models of interaction, evaluation and other aspects of distance education. In the second part of the talk, we will present a model of knowledge management for handling both contents of e-Learning programs ,as well as research products generated by research groups in a knowledge organization. Experiences with the research groups at Tecnológico de Monterrey called “The Research Chairs Program” will be analyzed.1 Prof. Patricio López del Puerto President of Virtual University2 Tecnológico de Monterrey Privately funded Non-profit Independent Non-government operational support 28 non-profit sponsoring boards 542 Board of trustees members3 Mission 2005-2015 Monterrey Tech educates persons With integrity, highethical standardsand a humanisticand social science perspective Internationally competitivein their professional fields Citizens committedto their communities’ well being4 8,418 faculty 100,408* students 33 campuses Tec Milenio 32 campuses 2,116 faculty 25,891* students Virtual University 12,419*Graduate programs 17,330 *Undergraduate coursesand High School 59,523 Continuing Education programs 42,409 Social programs * August 20095 20 fieldoffices6 North America28% South America4.5% Oceania5% Asia8% Europe54% 6,959students abroad(year 2008) Africa0.5%7 North America33% South America24% Oceania2% Asia5% Europe35.5% 4,423students from other countries(year 2008) Africa0.5%8 Accreditations SACS Southern Association of Colleges andSchools AACSBInternational Association for Management Education EFMEEuropean Foundation for Management Education (EQUIS) ABETAccreditation Board for Engineeringand Technology AMFEMAsociación Mexicana de Facultades y Escuelas de Medicina A.C.
