The Sonification and Learning of Human Motion
This paper examines how sonification can be used to help a student emulate the complex motion of a teacherinteractively with increasing accuracy and timing. The system captures the motion of a single joint (such as a handmotion or gesture) of a teacher in real-time. A 3-D motion path is then generated and recorded along with a referencesound. A student then attempts to perform the motion and thus recreate the teacher’s reference sound. The student’ssynthesized sound will dynamically approach the teacher’s sound as the student’s movement becomes more accurate.Several types of sound mappings which simultaneously represent time and space deviations are explored. Ideological Polarization and the Appropriations Process
This paper examines the increasing polarization surrounding appropriation measures andmembers of the House Appropriation Committee using roll call data. We begin by briefly discussingdevelopments within the committee. We then introduce an approach aimed at measuring polarizationon votes on appropriation measures, Poole and Rosenthal’s NOMINATE algorithm.1 Our resultssuggest that the politics of appropriations, the last vestige of bipartisanship, has collapsed under theweight of ideological polarization

This research focuses on the anthropology of branding, marketing, and consumerism within the corporate realm. In particular, I investigate how employees present their employers’ corporate marketing strategy in a restaurant context. California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) is an ideal case study because the company strives to market not only food but also a California culture. The concept is that CPK provides guests with food and a place to eat, but the employee's job is to provide the guest with a California dining experience
A Comparative Study of Sustainability Awareness at CSU Channel Islands
California State University Channel Islands advertises to its students and staff that it is a green campus. The results of the analysis are not only a research project, but serve as useful data for the Green Screen project as examination of student awareness helps the University better communicate its sustainable practices to students. Politics to the Extreme: Mapping the Interest Group Universe
This research aims to accomplish two things: 1) to calculate the policy ideal points ofinterest groups, and 2) explore whether polarization in the Congress is reflected in the interestgroup universe. I utilize congressional roll call vote data coupled with a mathematical algorithmto map shifting ideological “ideal points” of interest groups over time in one and twodimensionalspace. Profiling of Human Normal and Cancer Cell Lines Using Phenotype Microarray Analysis
The overall aim of our research was to determine the differences exhibited by cell lines derived from women cancers (breast, uterine, and ovarian) in response to exposure to anti-cancer agents using Phenotype MicroArray panels, cell proliferation, and Immunologic based assays; and to determine whether these anti-cancer agents target the mTOR signaling pathway in these cells. There have been no previous studies reported exploring mTOR signaling in these cell lines using the novel Biolog Phenotype MicroArray platform

Earmarks. Few things in contemporary politics are as universally denounced and so miserably misunderstood. An appropriations bill allocates specific funds for an identifiable project or program in the state or district of a member of Congress. Analysis of Barn Owl (Tyto alba) Diet at CSU Channel Islands and Their Potential to Control Rodents Within an Integrated Pest Management Program
We analyzed the barn owl (Tyto alba) diet on the campus of California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) and explored the potential use of Tyto for the control of rodents. Owl-based Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an alternative method to the wide-spread application of second-generation anticoagulant rodenticide (SGAR). Anticoagulants poisons work by reducing the ability of rodents to produce Vitamin K, a crucial enzyme that allows blood to clot and prevent the uncontrollable loss of blood. SAGAR have a high potential to kill non-target wildlife. We posit a more sustainable approach to rodent control at CSUCI would be to increase Tyto populations and therefore the corresponding predation pressure upon local rodents, ultimately reducing the numbers of potentially nuisance rodents and need for SGAR
