Customer Relationship Management In Banking Sector

    No full text
ABSTRACT The banking business is becoming more and more complex with the changes emanating from the liberalization and globalization. For a new bank, customer creation is important, but in an established bank the retention is much more efficient and cost effective mechanism. CRM is a sound business strategy to identify the banks most profitable customers and prospects, and devotes time and attention to expanding account relationships with them. Customer data may be used as a platform for CRM systems for communicating, creating loyalty, customer service, trust cultivation and relationship maintenance. This paper studies about the role of CRM in banking sector and the customer perception about CRM

Discovering Technology teachers' pedagogical content knowledge: A comparative study between South Africa and New Zealand

    No full text
Abstract An important and under-researched area of Technology Education is teachers' pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). This concept reflects the notion that expert teachers' knowledge is a unique integration of their pedagogical technique and their understanding of Technology content as applied in a particular instance. This research enquires into Technology teachers' PCK in New Zealand and South Africa, using a comparative perspective and a methodology derived from the philosophy of PCK. The rationale for the selection of these two countries is the similar timeframe of implementations and review of Technology Education curriculum which has occurred in each country. This presentation will compare the PCK of New Zealand Technology teachers and the PCK of South African Technology teachers through a case study approach. The findings in this paper are reported from the interviews, classroom observations, and document reviews of teachers in each country

Late presentation to HIV/AIDS care in Brazil among men who self-identify as heterosexual

    No full text
ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To analyze the factors associated with late presentation to HIV/AIDS services among heterosexual men. METHODS: Men infected by HIV who self-identified as heterosexual (n = 543) were included in the study. Descriptive, biivariate and logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the factors associated with late presentation (defined as individuals whose first CD4 count was <350 cells/mm 3 ) in the study population. RESULTS: The prevalence of late presentation was 69.8%. The multivariate logistic analysis showed testing initiated by the provider (OR adjusted 3.75; 95%CI 2.45-5.63) increased the odds of late presentation. History of drug use (OR adjusted 0.59; 95%CI 0.38-0.91), history of having sexually transmitted infections (OR adjusted 0.64; 95%CI 0.42-0.97), and having less education (OR adjusted 0.63; 95%CI 0.41-0.97) were associated with a decreased odds of LP. CONCLUSIONS: Provider initiated testing was the only variable to increase the odds of late presentation. Since the patients in this sample all self-identified as heterosexual, it appears that providers are not requesting they be tested for HIV until the patients are already presenting symptoms of AIDS. The high prevalence of late presentation provides additional evidence to shift towards routine testing and linkage to care, rather than risk-based strategies that may not effectively or efficiently engage individuals infected with HIV

2011): “Unobserved Investment, Endogenous Quality, and Trade

Abstract A seller can make investments that affect a tradable asset's future returns. The potential buyer of the asset cannot observe the seller's investment prior to trade, nor does he receive any signal of it, nor can he verify it in anyway after trade. Despite this severe moral hazard problem, this paper shows the seller will invest with positive probability in equilibrium and that trade will occur with positive probability. The outcome of the game is sensitive to the distribution of bargaining power between the parties, with a holdup problem existing if the buyer has the bargaining power. A consequence of the holdup problem is surplus-reducing distortions in investment level. Perhaps counterintuitively, in many situations, this distortion involves an increase in the expected amount invested vis-à-vis the situation without holdup

The Influence of Profitability and Growth Opportunity on Dividend Payment of the Firms in the Miscellaneous Industry Sector in Indonesia Stock Exchange

    No full text
ABSTRACT The objectives of our research are to examine the impact of profitability and growth opportunity on dividend payment. After analyzing the data of firms in Indonesia over the sample period [2009][2010][2011][2012][2013], by using regression and correlation analysis, for testing hypotheses 1 and 2 to investigate the impact of profitability and growth opportunity on dividend payment, we made the conclusion. For hypothesis 1, we find that there is a positive insignificant effect of profitability on dividend payment, while for hypothesis 2 we conclude that growth opportunity has a positive and significant effect on dividend payment. These implied that the higher profitability and growth opportunity of the firms, the higher dividends pay to firm's shareholders

T 2002, Technology and the home: supporting cooperative analysis of the design space

    No full text
ABSTRACT The home is a complex and (as yet) poorly understood environment. Placing emphasis on production and efficiency, approaches and methods developed to analyze the workplace seem inappropriate to the study of domestic life. A variety of new approaches and methods that are sensitive to the lived realities of domestic life and which support cooperative analysis of the home from multiple viewpoints are required to analyze the domestic design space. An adapted patterns framework for scoping domestic environments, complimented by targeted ethnographic inquiry, is offered as a means of explicating a social viewpoint that provides concrete empirical insights and resources for parties to design to draw upon and use in analyzing the design space. Keywords Domestic environments, ethnography, patterns of action and technology use, design space, cooperative analysis

Explicit vs. Implicit Pronunciation Teaching to Greek children: the case of the acquisition of English vowels

    No full text
Abstract: The paper discusses the effectiveness of pronunciation teaching of English to Greek state school students aged 16 years old. More specifically, it examines the production of English vowels by Greek learners of English in an English Foreign Language (EFL) context. Two different teaching methods were implemented, which resulted in having two different experimental groups; an explicit vs. an implicit one. The former received explicit teaching of English pronunciation through a variety of activities while the latter was taught implicitly via the use of recasts. The results showed that Greek students of both experimental groups experienced difficulties in producing the target vowels. As regards vowel quantity (duration), it was found that the implicit and control groups produced some target vowel values which were consistent with those of native speakers

Monitoring corn and soybean agroecosystems after establishing no-tillage practices in Québec, Canada

, H. 2007. Monitoring corn and soybean agroecosystems after establishing no-tillage practices in Québec, Canada. Can. J. Plant Sci. 87: 841-849. The conversion to no-tillage (NT) may seem risky to some producers who rely on tillage to control weeds, some insect pests and disease-causing pathogens that can reduce crop yield. Weeds, arthropods, and disease incidence were monitored in silage corn (Zea mays L.) and soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) agroecosystems with CT and newly established NT plots in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec. During the first 2 establishment years, there were more annual grass and fewer annual broadleaf weeds in NT than in CT plots, but the surface area covered by weeds (broadleaf, grasses and perennials) was greater in CT than NT plots. Foliar arthropods were more numerous in soybean than corn plots in both years, but were unaffected by tillage. There were more ground-dwelling generalist predators, especially Coleoptera and Carabidae, in CT than NT plots, while spiders and harvestmen (Araneae and Opiliones) were dominant in NT plots. Crop damage from insect pests and diseases was below economic thresholds, but 5 yr of yield monitoring (2000)(2001)(2002)(2003)(2004) revealed a trend of greater silage corn and soybean yields in CT than NT plots. The reduction in crop yield after establishing NT practices at this site was probably due to rooting constraints from inadequate seedbed preparation in the NT system, rather than from weed competition, insect damage or crop diseases. Key words: Arthropods, crop disease, silage corn, soybean, tillage, weed control Whalen, J. K., Prasher, S. O. et Benslim, H. 2007. Surveillance aux agro-écosystèmes de maïs-ensilage et de soya convertis en semis-direct au Québec, Canada. Can. J. Plant Sci. 87: 841-849.

Chemistry for Sustainable Development 20 (2012) 375384 Features of Soil Pollution in the Region of Storage of the Wastes from Pyrometallurgical Zinc Extraction at the Belovo Zinc Plant

    No full text
Abstract Total heavy metal content in the soil in the region of the storage of wastes from pyrometallurgical works (Belovo Zinc Plant) was investigated. It was established that the high level of zinc and copper pollution is conserved also after the plant stops its operation. The maximal pollution was detected in the direct vicinity of clinker mound; it exceeds the background values for zinc by a factor of 60. At a distance of 300 m pollution decreases (17-fold excess over the background value) but it can be followed even at a distance of 5 km from the Belovo Zinc Plant (5-fold level). The fraction of mobile forms of a number of elements extracted through stepwise leaching was determined. For the soil with the heaviest pollution (ðÍ of water extract 5.58), the fraction of mobile zinc forms exceeds the MPC by a factor of 66, copper by a factor of 2, manganese is below the normal value, mobile forms of nickel were not detected. Thus obtained row depicts the geoecological condition of soil in the region of waste storage of the Belovo Zinc Plant
