introduction The risk of gear tooth scuffing in commercial vehicle transmissions has gained more attention because of increasing demand for fuel-efficient powertrain systems in which diesel engines run at lower speeds, power density is higher, and lubricants are modified to improve efficiency and compatibility with components of new technologies, such as dual-clutch transmissions. Accordingly, predicting scuffing risk during the design phase is vital for the successful development of commercial vehicle transmissions. AGMA 925-A03 (Ref. 1) is a comprehensive method for predicting the probability of gear scuffing. This paper presents the AGMA 925-A03 (Ref. 1) scuffing risk predictions for 50 spur and helical gear sets in transmissions used in commercial vehicles ranging from SAE Class 3 through Class 8. Limiting scuffing temperatures using two mineral and three synthetic gear lubricants was determined from FZG scuffing tests. The risk of scuffing was determined for each gear set according to AGMA 925-03 (Ref. 1). The predictions were compared with field and warranty data, and dynamometer test results. The predictor was correct in all cases. High scuffing risk was predicted for gears known to scuff, and low scuffing risk was predicted for all other cases with no history of scuffing. The document correlation between prediction, test results and actual usage instills confidence in the predictor of scuffing risk for gears in commercial vehicle transmissions

ABSTRACT Because most of crop plants and weeds have allelopathic effects, analysis of these effects on plants in crop alteration and successive planting is highly significant. In this regard, the present study tries to analyze the allelopathic ability of different parts with two concentrations of two weeds of Ryegrass and Sinapis arvensis in affecting the rate of growth of two barley strains, Valfajr and Rehane, in a completely random plan with four repetitions in a greenhouse. Test factors consisted of two barley stains (Valfajr and Rehane), three weed organs (root, stalk, leaf) and four concentrations of extracts of different weed organs (25, 50, 75 and control or distilled water). After the preparation of extracts of different weed organs with different concentrations, their effect on growth characteristics of barley plant was evaluated. Finally, the herb height, length of spikes, number of leaves, number of seeds inside the herb, the weight of one thousand seeds (grams) and output of seed for each herb (grams) were measured. Also, the above two seeds had significant effects on the two strains of barley and could influence growth characteristics of barley. Based on the results of present study, one can argue that "Ryegrass" and Sinapis arvensis can strongly affect germination, growth and performance of barley through production of chemical materials with allelopathic properties and lead to unfavorable growth and product output
Synchronizing Coupled Semiconductor Lasers under General Coupling Topologies
Abstract-We consider synchronization of coupled semiconductor lasers modeled by coupled Lang and Kobayashi equations. We first analyze decoupled laser stability, and then characterize synchronization conditions of coupled laser dynamics. We rigorously prove that the coupled system locally synchronizes to a limit cycle under the coupling topology of an undirected connected graph with equal in-degrees. Graph and systems theory is used in synchronization analysis. The results not only contribute to analytic understanding of semiconductor lasers, but also advance cooperative control by providing a realworld system of coupled limit-cycle oscillators
Collision Resolution Schemes with Nonoverlapped Contention Slots for Heterogeneous and Homogeneous WLANs
CSMA/CA-based DCF of 802.11 MAC layer employs a best-effort delivery model, in which stations compete for channel access with the same priority. In a heterogeneous network, providing different priorities to different applications for required quality of service is a challenging task, since heterogeneous conditions result in unfairness among stations and degradation in the throughput. This paper proposes a class of collision resolution schemes for 802.11 having contention window control with nonoverlapped contention slots. In the first scheme, window ranges of two consecutive stages are nonoverlapped, and it is called nonoverlapped contention slots (NOCS) scheme. In the other scheme, termed as NOCS-offset, an offset is introduced between window ranges of two stages. Selection of a random value by a station for its contention with discontinuous distribution results in reduced probability of collision. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed scheme exhibits higher throughput and fairness with reduced delay and collision probability in homogeneous and heterogeneous networks. Performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated for mix traffic and high data rate environment with advanced back-off management techniques to meet the requirements of the present applications
