Abstract. The SIMBOL-X formation-flight X-ray mission will be operated by ASI and CNES in 2013. Thanks to the formationflight architecture, it will be possible to operate a long (20 m) focal length grazing incidence optics module made of 100 confocal multilayer-coated Wolter I shells. This system will allow us to focus for the first time X-rays over a very broad energy band, from 0.5 keV up to 80 keV and beyond, with more than two orders of magnitude improvement in angular resolution and sensitivity compared to non focusing detectors used so far. In this paper, the SIMBOL-X optics design, technology and implementation challenges will be discussed

Adaptive Course Flow and Sequencing through the Engine for Management of Adaptive Pedagogy (EMAP)
Abstract. The Engine for Management of Adaptive Pedagogy (EMAP) is the Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring's (GIFT) first implementation of a domain-independent pedagogical manager. It establishes a framework within GIFT that adheres to sound instructional system design, while also providing tools and methods to create highly personalized and adaptive learning experiences. In this paper, we present the components of the EMAP, we highlight their utility when authoring an EMAP managed lesson, and we review the limitations associated with its first instantiation. Introduction The Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring (GIFT) is being developed as a domain-agnostic solution to authoring, delivering, and evaluating adaptive training solutions across an array of domains and training applications. While GIFT's initial development focused on establishing a standardized architecture for building Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) functions to support distributed learning events, recent work has centered on extending the adaptive capabilities the framework affords. As a result, the Engine for Management of Adaptive Pedagogy (EMAP) was developed. The EMAP is based on an extensive literature review of instructional strategy focused research within computer-based trainin
TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF LUMINESCENCE DECAY FROM THE 1G52 STATE OF Sm3+ IN Cs2NaSmxΥ1 -x Cl6 AND Cs2NaSmxEuyΥ1-x-yCl6
Luminescence decay curves for the 4G5/2 →6Η7/2 emission of Sm 3 + in the cubic hexachloroeIpasoIite crystals Cs2ΝaSmxY1-xCl6 (x = 0.005 to x = 1) and Cs2ΝaSmxΕu Y1-x-yCl6 (x = 0.01 to x = 0.95, y = 0.05 to y = 0.99) have been measured over the temperature range 10 K to 300 K using pulsed laser excitation into the 4G5/2 state of Sm3+ . The luminescence from this state is strongly quenched by cross relaxation to Sm3+ acceptors and energy transfer to the 5D0 state of Ευ3+ Tle temperature dependence of cross relaxation and of energy transfer is discussed in terms of the involved mechanisms
ANALYSIS OF URIC ACID USING CARBON PASTE ELECTRODES MODIFIED BY MOLECULARLY IMPRINTED POLYMER AS POTENTIOMETRY SENSOR
ABSTRACT The development of carbon paste electrodes modified with the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for the potentiometric analysis of uric acid was carried out in this study. MIP was made from methyl methacrylate as a monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker, and uric acid as a template. The carbon paste electrodes/MIP is produced from carbon, MIP, and paraffin with ratio 40 : 25 : 35 (%, w/w). The measurement of uric acid with carbon paste electrodes/MIP produced Nernst factor of 30.19 mV/decade with a measurement range of 10 -6 -10 -3 M. The minimum detection limit of this method was 3.03.10 -6 M, the precision and accuracy towards uric acid with a concentration of 10 -6 -10 -3 M was ranging between 1.36-2.03% and 63.9-166%. The selectivity coefficient value was less than one which indicated that the electrode was selective against uric acid and was not interfered by urea. This electrode has a response time less than two minutes and lifetime is eight weeks with the usage is 104 times
EMITTANCE MEASUREMENT WITH WIRE SCANNERS AT CADS MEBT1*
Abstract The C-ADS project has started beam commissioning. The ion source and LEBT has been commissioned successfully, while the RFQ is under conditioning. The Medium Energy Beam Transport line-1 (MEBT) is the place where extensive beam parameter measurement will be carried out. Beam emittance is one of the most critical parameters which have to characterized. In the C-ADS injector-I, the MEBT-1 has installed three wire scanners to measure the beam sizes. The transverse emittance measurement method using the wire scanners will be discussed in detail in this paper
Remote sensing of evapotranspiration and carbon uptake at Harvard Forest
Abstract A land surface vegetation index, defined as the difference of microwave land surface emissivity at 19 and 37 GHz, was calculated for a heavily forested area in north central Massachusetts. The microwave emissivity difference vegetation index (EDVI) was estimated from satellite SSM/I measurements at the defined wavelengths and used to estimate land surface turbulent fluxes. Narrowband visible and infrared measurements and broadband solar radiation observations were used in the EDVI retrievals and turbulent flux estimations. The EDVI values represent physical properties of crown vegetation such as vegetation water content of crown canopies. The collocated land surface turbulent and radiative fluxes were empirically linked together by the EDVI values. The EDVI values are statistically sensitive to evapotranspiration fractions (EF) with a correlation coefficient (R) greater than 0.79 under all-sky conditions. For clear skies, EDVI estimates exhibit a stronger relationship with EF than normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Furthermore, the products of EDVI and input energy (solar and photosynthetically active radiation) are statistically significantly correlated to evapotranspiration (R = 0.95) and CO 2 uptake flux (R = 0.74), respectively
