Discovering cohesive subgroups from social networks for targeted advertising

    No full text
Abstract In this paper, we propose a framework that utilizes the concept of a social network for the targeted advertising of products. This approach discovers the cohesive subgroups from a customer's social network as derived from the customer's interaction data, and uses them to infer the probability of a customer preferring a product category from transaction records. This information is then used to construct a targeted advertising system. We evaluate the proposed approach by using both synthetic data and real-world data. The experimental results show that our approach does well at recommending relevant products

Absolute Bioavailability of 2Ј-O-(2-Methoxyethyl)-Modified Antisense Oligonucleotides following Intraduodenal Instillation in Rats

ABSTRACT Three modified 20-mer antisense oligonucleotides targeted to human intercellular adhesion molecule-1 mRNA were characterized for their presystemic stability and oral bioavailability compared with a first-generation phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotide (PS ODN), ISIS 2302. The three modified oligonucleotides contained 2Ј-O-(2-methoxyethyl) (2Ј-O-MOE) ribose sugar modifications on a portion, or on all of the nucleotides in the antisense sequence. In vitro metabolism studies conducted in various gastrointestinal and digestive tissue preparations indicated substantial improvement in stability of 2Ј-O-MOE-modified oligonucleotides. In addition, in vivo presystemic stability of these oligonucleotides was monitored in rats following intraduodenal administration. By 8 h after administration, only chain-shortened metabolites of the PS ODN were recovered in the gastrointestinal contents. In contrast, approximately 50% of the 2Ј-O-MOE ribose-modified (partial) compound remained intact (20-mer) by 8 h following administration. Both of the fully modified compounds (2Ј-O-MOE PO and PS) were completely stable with no measurable metabolites observed within 8 h of administration. The rank order of bioavailability was ISIS 11159 (full PS, full MOE) Ͻ ISIS 2302 (PS ODN) Ͻ ISIS 16952 (full PO, full MOE) Ͻ ISIS 14725 (full PS, partial MOE); the absolute plasma concentration bioavailability was measured in reference to intravenous dosing in the rat and was estimated at 0.3, 1.2,

Abstract: Ceramic solid solution, Ni 0.5 V 0.2 Bi 0.3 CoO 3 was synthesized using solid state reaction route. The structural characterization using XRD reveled tetragonal structure of the material. The electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and Seebeck coefficient, were measured in the temperature range 350-1000K. Hopping conduction is found to dominate at high temperature for electrical conductivity. The material possessed very low thermal conductivity and thermoelectric figure of merit is found to increase with temperature

Background: In the globalized era, the ever emerging significance of the airlines industry as one of the important economic developments of recent decade cannot be taken lightly. The airlines industry has played an important role in the global economy especially in serving customers domestically as a vital component in the tourism industry and remains essential to the conduct of international business. Moreover, low cost carriers have become dominant players in the airlines industry in the recent years. Low-cost carriers in Malaysia have made a remarkable revolution in the air travel with rapidly increasing growth over the years. Objective: This study attempts to find out the impact of customer satisfaction on customer loyalty and their intentions to switch to other low cost carriers in Malaysia. Data were collected over a period of two months using survey questionnaire from 265 walk-in customers at travel agencies around Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The data collected were then analyzed using SPSS. Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis were used to examine the correlation between independent variable and dependent variable. Results: The results of the study indicated that there is a positive correlation between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty but showed negative correlation with customer with customer intentions to switch. Conclusion: conclusions and implications of the study are also discussed based on the analysis

Scheduling for Electricity Cost in Smart Grid *

    No full text
Abstract We study an offline scheduling problem arising in demand response management in smart grid. Consumers send in power requests with a flexible set of timeslots during which their requests can be served. For example, a consumer may request the dishwasher to operate for one hour during the periods 8am to 11am or 2pm to 4pm. The grid controller, upon receiving power requests, schedules each request within the specified duration. The electricity cost is measured by a convex function of the load in each timeslot. The objective of the problem is to schedule all requests with the minimum total electricity cost. As a first attempt, we consider a special case in which the power requirement and the duration a request needs service are both unit-size. For this problem, we present a polynomial time offline algorithm that gives an optimal solution and show that the time complexity can be further improved if the given set of timeslots forms a contiguous interval

Word Embeddings Go to Italy: a Comparison of Models and Training Datasets

    No full text
Abstract. In this paper we present some preliminary results on the generation of word embeddings for the Italian language. We compare two popular word representation models, word2vec and GloVe, and train them on two datasets with different stylistic properties. We test the generated word embeddings on a word analogy test derived from the one originally proposed for word2vec, adapted to capture some of the linguistic aspects that are specific of Italian. Results show that the tested models are able to create syntactically and semantically meaningful word embeddings despite the higher morphological complexity of Italian with respect to English. Moreover, we have found that the stylistic properties of the training dataset plays a relevant role in the type of information captured by the produced vectors
