How Extraversion Levels are Mediated by Peer Influence to Create Risk Taking Behavior

    No full text
Prior research on Extraversion, a personality trait categorized as outspoken and a preference for extreme levels of stimulation, has been widely linked to risky behavior. This presentation will explore the role of peer pressure as a mediating factor in the relationship between extraversion and risk-taking behavior. Specifically, how individuals with higher levels of extraversion are more likely to engage in risky behavior. Extraverts, due to their enhanced need for social interaction and stimulation, may be more susceptible to the persuasive power of peer groups that promote risky behavior (Oehler & Wedlich, 2018). Indirect or direct, peer influence pushes individuals to follow social norms which may have unfavorable effects on behavior. Research shows, especially in adolescence and young adulthood, that the interaction between personality traits and social influence has a noticeable impact on behavior (Gardner, 2005). This relationship indicates that extraverts\u27 needs for social status and acceptance may increase their likelihood of peer influence and risk-taking behaviors. This research will explore the intersectionality of peer pressure, extraversion, and risk-taking behavior, emphasizing how the dynamics are interconnected and more pronounced during young adulthood. Knowing how these dynamics intersect in young adulthood offers important insight into how social factors and personality traits impact risk-taking behavior

Within is a contemporary modern dance piece about the inner struggles of military service members and how they process these battles when they feel alienated, cut off, and ultimately alone. Set to a 7-minute instrumental orchestral track, “Within” is a solo performance with choreography designed to show the duality of trying to perform your assigned duty and the simultaneous weight it bears on the souls of servicemembers. It follows the story of a Marine struggling to understand himself and find a sense of purpose when they feel they have lost sense of it. It tackles themes of military mental health, trauma, guilt, and ultimately self-acceptance

Through my compositional studies in the fall I created a concept that has continued to develop into what it is now. This dance, which is highly up to interpretation, represents a push and pull relationship that reveals very complex emotions. Originally created to express the relationship I had with my mom growing up, it now has shifted in meaning for myself to be about my relationship with God. This world can grab a hold of you and pull you away from God with out you even realizing it\u27s happening and the guilt that follows the realization of past sin. I really hope that every audience member can attach their own personal experiences to this work and hopefully feel a connection to the story

    Get PDF
Background: Demonstrating healthy self-care behaviors is a competency requirement for all graduates of accredited BSN programs. Mindfulness is an evidence-based self-care strategy known to enhance well-being and resilience by fostering self-compassion, perseverance, self-awareness, and self-efficacy. Additionally, mindfulness improves stress response, focus, and performance. However, gaps in an existing BSN curriculum limit students\u27 development of healthy habits and self-care competencies. Purpose: This quality improvement project aimed to integrate mindfulness strategies into a BSN curriculum to support nursing student well-being. The initiative utilized Headspace, a mindfulness app, to provide students with accessible and portable tools for stress management and self-care. Design and Methods: A phased quality improvement design guided by a socio-ecological framework facilitated the integration of multi-level interventions, including staggering academic stressors and sequencing mindfulness practices, creating a more supportive infrastructure for cultivating resilience. Ongoing mixed-method evaluations assessed faculty and student experiences with the curricular innovation, guiding improvements, scalability, and sustainability efforts. Results: Analytics data from Headspace indicated consistent independent app usage among students and faculty. Qualitative feedback from faculty highlighted the feasibility and value of incorporating mindfulness practices using Headspace. Student feedback revealed that regular mindfulness practice improved focus, reduced stress and anxiety, and enhanced confidence and self-efficacy. Conclusion: The emergence of nursing burnout is at a critical high, posing a threat to nurse wellness, the stability of the profession, and safe patient care. Nursing students’ development of healthy self-care behaviors is essential to mitigate these threats and bolster a more sustainable workforce. Integrating multi-level strategies in a BSN curriculum supports students’ development of healthy habits and fosters a culture of wellness, resilience, and professional sustainability in nursing education

The Center for Courageous Kids Universally Designed Pre-Recorded Dance Program

    Get PDF
This doctoral capstone project was created to serve the children, families, and volunteers at The Center of Courageous Kids in Scottsville, KY. The Center for Courageous Kids (CCK) is an accessible medical camp that provides children with serious illnesses the opportunity to attend camp at no cost. This allows the campers to have fun, create community and escape their everyday challenges. The camp hosts weekend retreats for families throughout the school year and offers population-specific week-long independent camps during the summer. Due to the structure of the camp, it relies heavily on volunteers to operate. With that in mind, this project was designed to address the camp’s needs, focusing on safety, high turnover, and consistency. To ensure the projects effectiveness, it was divided into three essential components: developing a universally designed pre-recorded dance program, implementing a general camper satisfaction survey, and creating volunteer education sheets. The universally designed dance program was made with the intention of fostering an inclusive, high-energy environment where every camper can dance to the beat of their own drum. The program being prerecorded and digitally accessible allows incoming volunteers to lead it with little to no preparation, ensuring easy accessibility to anyone with a computer and allowing for future program growth. Each dance is recorded in two physical variations. One version is standing while the other version uses a wheelchair. Each video also includes time cues, rest breaks, and a multimodal reminder encouraging participants to listen to their bodies, stay hydrated, and have fun. The videos feature visual, verbal, and highly contrasted closed captioning instructions, designed to support those who are hard of hearing, visually impaired, or have different processing preferences. The choreography included in each video was specifically designed to promote universal accessibility while staying age-inclusive for the diverse group of campers CCK serves. The general camp satisfaction survey is intended to aide CCK in future program development by identifying necessary activity modifications and ensuring that all campers accessibility needs continue to be met. The survey asks participants to identify their role at camp, followed by a list of five questions. The survey asks participants to share their favorite part of their trip, as well as any challenges they witnessed or faced, in addition to suggestions for future improvements. The volunteer learning sheets are intended to quickly educate and prepare incoming volunteers by providing crucial population-based information and helpful strategies in a clear and concise format. These sheets aim to help maintain a safe, informed, and supportive environment for campers and their families
