Utilizing ChatGPT to Address Billing & Coding Gaps Among Rural Nurse Practitioners
Over 75% of new healthcare providers report feeling unprepared to manage billing and coding requirements. The challenge is in part a result of limited coverage of these topics in advanced practice curricula and the lack of free, accessible, and up-to-date coding resources. This quality improvement project explored the potential of ChatGPT as an innovative tool to support rural nurse practitioners in Tennessee with billing and coding challenges. Using the IHI Model for Improvement, two Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles were conducted to assess ChatGPT’s effectiveness as a billing and coding resource. The first cycle evaluated ChatGPT\u27s accuracy in generating Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes. The second cycle implemented a pilot study in which rural NPs used ChatGPT as a coding tool. Results indicated that ChatGPT achieved an accuracy rate of 89% in generating Evaluation and Management (E/M) codes and a 90% accuracy in generating procedural codes. Additionally, 55% of participants expressed interest in using ChatGPT for coding again and approximately 60% reported that ChatGPT was not difficult to use. Nurse practitioners with less than three years of experience reported lower perceived proficiency in billing and coding, highlighting the potential of ChatGPT to enhance confidence and skill development. These findings suggest that ChatGPT can help streamline billing and coding processes, reduce administrative burdens, and support rural healthcare providers in developing essential skills. This project demonstrates that ChatGPT is a valuable, accessible, on-demand resource that may improve healthcare efficiency, particularly for providers in underserved areas

He Said, She Said: Deconstructing Gender in Our Own World through Our Own Languages
Both language and gender are social constructs which we humans have created to produce an order to the world, and this essay illustrates the ways in which language influences both our perceptions of gender and the world of people who subvert so-called natural gender norms. Because gender, unlike sex, is a social construct to which we ascribe particular images and words, language can affect not only the identity of the person in question but also their relationships, careers, and societal attitudes toward gender. Ursula Le Guin, in her 1969 science fiction novel The Left Hand of Darkness, deconstructs our earthly notions of gender by positioning the reader alongside Genley in a genderless world. Her depiction of a biological sex from the viewpoint of a bisexual (in the Gethenian sense) pushes the reader to seek understanding and communication rather than retreating into the shell of their own misconceptions. This work expands upon Le Guin’s deconstruction of gender by looking at our own world and the languages which influence these earthly notions of gender. Everything from our gendering of nouns to the presence of gender pronouns can influence gender prejudice both in our subconscious and in the workplace. While these conversations are integral to expanding upon the ways language affects our worldview, the gender non-binary groups which often exist separate from these groups are similarly affected. Le Guin’s theories of wholeness and unity thanks to a common origin can be attributed to language as well: our languages were once one and developed differently by different peoples in the same way that each organism (Terrans, Gethenians, etc.) evolved in different environments. While wholeness and unity on a societal level is a rather utopian concept, individuals can use language to provide wholeness to the individual by recognizing their identity, story, and preferences. With a linguistic focus on the individual, we can work toward a more empathetic and welcoming world for the whole societ

Safe Nurse-Patient Ratios: A Guide for Healthy Staffing
In order to enhance patient outcomes and nurse well-being, our initiative focuses on optimizing patient-staff ratios, which improve overall quality of care while reducing nurse burnout. With involvement of key stakeholders such as legislators, policymakers, hiring departments, managers, charge nurses, and nurses themselves, we aim to foster a. collaborative approach that addresses the root causes of stress and dissatisfaction. The goal to create this supportive environment where nurses have manageable workloads, leads to increased job satisfaction and reduced burnout. We expect to see improved patient outcomes, and higher nurse retention rates due to healthier, more sustainable work environments. This approach will ultimately enhance the overall healthcare experience for both patients and staff
