Search for flavor-changing neutral current interactions of the top quark and higgs boson in final states with two photons in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
Proton-proton interactions resulting in final states with two photons are studied in a search for the signature of flavor-changing neutral current interactions of top quarks (t) and Higgs bosons (H). The analysis is based on data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb(-1.) No significant excess above the background prediction is observed. Upper limits on the branching fractions (B) of the top quark decaying to a Higgs boson and an up (u) or charm (c) quark are derived through a binned fit to the diphoton invariant mass spectrum. The observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limits are found to be 0.019% (0.031%) for B(t -> Hu) and 0.073% (0.051%) for B(t -> Hc). These are the strictest upper limits yet determined.BMBWF and FWF (Austria) ; FNRS and FWO (Belgium) ; CNPq, CAPES, FAPERJ, FAPERGS, and FAPESP (Brazil) ; MES and BNSF (Bulgaria) ; CERN; CAS, MoST, and NSFC (China) ; MINCIENCIAS (Colombia) ; MSES and CSF (Croatia) ; RIF (Cyprus) ; SENESCYT (Ecuador) ; MoER, ERC PUT and ERDF (Estonia) ; Academy of Finland, MEC, and HIP (Finland) ; CEA and CNRS/IN2P3 (France) ; BMBF, DFG, and HGF (Germany) ; GSRI (Greece) ; NKFIA (Hungary) ; DAE and DST (India) ; IPM (Iran) ; SFI (Ireland) ; INFN (Italy) ; MSIP and NRF (Republic of Korea) ; MES (Latvia) ; LAS (Lithuania) ; MOE and UM (Malaysia) ; BUAP, CINVESTAV, CONACYT, LNS, SEP, and UASLP-FAI (Mexico) ; MOS (Montenegro) ; MBIE (New Zealand) ; PAEC (Pakistan) ; MSHE and NSC (Poland) ; FCT (Portugal) ; JINR (Dubna) ; MON, RosAtom, RAS, RFBR, and NRC KI (Russia) ; MESTD (Serbia) ; SEIDI, CPAN, PCTI, and FEDER (Spain) ; MOSTR (Sri Lanka) ; Swiss Funding Agencies (Switzerland) ; MST (Taipei) ; ThEPCenter, IPST, STAR, and NSTDA (Thailand) ; TUBITAK and TAEK (Turkey) ; NASU (Ukraine) ; STFC (United Kingdom) ; DOE and NSF (USA) .Publisher versio
Measurement and QCD analysis of double-differential inclusive jet cross sections in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 13 TeV
A measurement of the inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at s = 13 TeV is presented. The double-differential cross sections are measured as a function of the jet transverse momentum pT and the absolute jet rapidity |y|. The anti-kT clustering algorithm is used with distance parameter of 0.4 (0.7) in a phase space region with jet pT from 97 GeV up to 3.1 TeV and |y| < 2.0. Data collected with the CMS detector are used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb−1 (33.5 fb−1). The measurement is used in a comprehensive QCD analysis at next-to-next-to-leading order, which results in significant improvement in the accuracy of the parton distributions in the proton. Simultaneously, the value of the strong coupling constant at the Z boson mass is extracted as αS(mZ) = 0.1170±0.0019. For the first time, these data are used in a standard model effective field theory analysis at next-to-leading order, where parton distributions and the QCD parameters are extracted simultaneously with imposed constraints on the Wilson coefficient c1 of 4-quark contact interactions.BMBWF and FWF (Austria); FNRS and FWO (Belgium); CNPq, CAPES, FAPERJ, FAPERGS, and FAPESP (Brazil); MES and BNSF (Bulgaria); CERN; CAS, MoST, and NSFC (China); MINCIENCIAS (Colombia); MSES and CSF (Croatia); RIF (Cyprus); SENESCYT (Ecuador); MoER, ERC PUT and ERDF (Estonia); Academy of Finland, MEC, and HIP (Finland); CEA and CNRS/IN2P3 (France); BMBF, DFG, and HGF (Germany); GSRI (Greece); NKFIA (Hungary); DAE and DST (India); IPM (Iran); SFI (Ireland); INFN (Italy); MSIP and NRF (Republic of Korea); MES (Latvia); LAS (Lithuania); MOE and UM (Malaysia); BUAP, CINVESTAV, CONACYT, LNS, SEP, and UASLP-FAI (Mexico); MOS (Montenegro); MBIE (New Zealand); PAEC (Pakistan); MSHE and NSC (Poland); FCT (Portugal); JINR (Dubna); MON, RosAtom, RAS, RFBR, and NRC KI (Russia); MESTD (Serbia); SEIDI, CPAN, PCTI, and FEDER (Spain); MOSTR (Sri Lanka); Swiss Funding Agencies (Switzerland); MST (Taipei); ThEPCenter, IPST, STAR, and NSTDA (Thailand); TUBITAK and TAEK (Turkey); NASU (Ukraine); STFC (United Kingdom); DOE and NSF (U.S.A.).

Impact of solar hosting capacity on distribution transformer efficiency
Today, with the increasing electricity demand, the tendency to use renewable resources such as solar photovoltaics is increasing. However, this type of renewable energy brings some challenges if the electricity demand is less than the produced solar power. Some of these challenges are reverse power flow, overloading of transformers, increase in power losses, and rise in voltage. There are existing hosting capacity methodologies to mitigate these challenges; however, there is no study on the impact of solar hosting capacity on transformer efficiency. In this study, three aspects of transformer losses are analyzed: various rated powers, different electricity demands, and solar hosting capacity
Take the red pill for H3 and see how deep the rabbit hole goes
With the introduction of HTTP/3 (H3) and QUIC at its core, there is an expectation of significant improvements in Web-based secure object delivery. As HTTP is a central protocol to the current adaptive streaming methods in all major streaming services, an important question is what H3 will bring to the table for such services. To answer this question, we present the new features of H3 and QUIC, and compare them to those of H/1.1/2 and TCP. We also share the latest research findings in this domain.Österreichische Nationalstiftung für Forschung, Technologie und Entwicklung ; Christian Doppler Forschungsgesellschaft ; Bundesministerium für Digitalisierung und WirtschaftsstandortPublisher versio
Search for heavy resonances decaying to Z (ν¯ν) V (q¯q′) in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
A search is presented for heavy bosons decaying to Z(νν¯)V(qq¯′), where V can be a W or a Z boson. A sample of proton-proton collision data at s=13 TeV was collected by the CMS experiment during 2016-2018. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb-1. The event categorization is based on the presence of high-momentum jets in the forward region to identify production through weak vector boson fusion. Additional categorization uses jet substructure techniques and the presence of large missing transverse momentum to identify W and Z bosons decaying to quarks and neutrinos, respectively. The dominant standard model backgrounds are estimated using data taken from control regions. The results are interpreted in terms of radion, W′ boson, and graviton models, under the assumption that these bosons are produced via gluon-gluon fusion, Drell-Yan, or weak vector boson fusion processes. No evidence is found for physics beyond the standard model. Upper limits are set at 95% confidence level on various types of hypothetical new bosons. Observed (expected) exclusion limits on the masses of these bosons range from 1.2 to 4.0 (1.1 to 3.7) TeV.BMBWF and FWF (Austria); FNRS and FWO (Belgium); CNPq, CAPES, FAPERJ, FAPERGS, and FAPESP (Brazil); MES and BNSF (Bulgaria); CERN; CAS, MoST, and NSFC (China); MINCIENCIAS (Colombia); MSES and CSF (Croatia); RIF (Cyprus); SENESCYT (Ecuador); MoER, ERC PUT and ERDF (Estonia); Academy of Finland, MEC, and HIP (Finland); CEA and CNRS/IN2P3 (France); BMBF, DFG, and HGF (Germany); GSRI (Greece); NKFIA (Hungary); DAE and DST (India); IPM (Iran); SFI (Ireland); INFN (Italy); MSIP and NRF (Republic of Korea); MES (Latvia); LAS (Lithuania); MOE and UM (Malaysia); BUAP, CINVESTAV, CONACYT, LNS, SEP, and UASLP-FAI (Mexico); MOS (Montenegro); MBIE (New Zealand); PAEC (Pakistan); MSHE and NSC (Poland); FCT (Portugal); JINR (Dubna); MON, RosAtom, RAS, RFBR, and NRC KI (Russia); MESTD (Serbia); SEIDI, CPAN, PCTI, and FEDER (Spain); MOSTR (Sri Lanka); Swiss Funding Agencies (Switzerland); MST (Taipei); ThEPCenter, IPST, STAR, and NSTDA (Thailand); TUBITAK and TAEK (Turkey); NASU (Ukraine); STFC (United Kingdom); DOE and NSF (USA). Perceptual processes of children regarding their nearby home environments living in two socially diverse subcommunities
Human life that is collective and diverse on the one hand, but complex and chaotic on the other, is largely experienced in
metropolitan cities owing to a significant amount of migration. Istanbul can be defined as a city that constantly witnesses massive influxes of migration and ultimately becomes socially heterogeneous. It was hypothesized in this study that the multilayered urban character of the city affects the perceptions of city-dwellers, especially children. As such, the study focused on the perceptual differences of children living in socially diverse urban settings, and a comparative analysis was conducted to reveal the children’s environmental perceptions regarding their nearby home environments. This case-study-oriented research was conducted with 11-year-old children from two subcommunities both located in the periphery of Istanbul: one from a gecekondu settlement on the fringes of Istanbul, and the other, a planned residential settlement (PRS). The methodology was based on the representations by the children since this methodology has the potential to present an
understanding of spatial perception through both quantitative and qualitative dimensions. A representation of children’s houses with their immediate surroundings was requested from the children so that two different cognitive map datasets were obtained regarding two diverse subcommunities. Significant results were obtained in the study, in which gender and settlement type were used as independent variables. As a result, it was revealed that the girls were more inclined to draw their own rooms, were more focused on indoor spaces and were further apt to draw the domestic appliances. When the results were evaluated depending on the settlement type variable, it was revealed that those living in PRS represented indoors more and were specifically focused on their own rooms, while those living in gecekondu settlement tended to draw domestic appliances and outdoor spaces more

Sürekli tavlama fırınının ışınımla ısınımı üzerine sayısal araştırma
Annealing as a type of heat treatment process is widely used in the glass manufacturing industry. It is the last stage of the manufacturing process and has a highly dominant effect on the quality of the glass. Especially in large volume glass manufacturing the annealing process is carried out in a continuous type annealing furnace. In that furnace, the different stages of the annealing process are accomplished in the different zones of the same furnace. The main purpose of the heating zone of the furnace is to increase the temperature of the glass back to the annealing temperature. Due to the temperature levels reaching 923 K inside the furnace, radiation heat transfer has a dominant effect in this zone of the furnace. Due to the mostly nonparticipating nature of the furnace atmosphere, the radiation heat transfer is governed by the view factors between the glass and the furnace walls. At the wavelength range of the radiation emitted from the furnace walls, the glass can be modelled as opaque. Since the view factor between the glass and the furnace walls depend on the distance between the glass rows inside the furnace, the layout of the glassware could have a considerable effect on the heating effectiveness of the furnace. In this numerical study, a combined conduction–radiation solver was developed to investigate the heating characteristics of moving bottles inside the radiant heating section of a continuous annealing furnace. The solver was designed as a hybrid solver running the conduction and the radiation calculations on the CPU and the GPU (graphic processing unit) respectively. The radiation transfer between the opaque surfaces has been calculated with the Backward Monte Carlo Ray Tracing method. Running the method on the GPU, the computational cost of the radiation model has been massively reduced. Overall, 91% of the total computational time is spent by the radiation calculations and only 9% was taken by the heat conduction calculations. Moreover, two numerical methods regarding the integration of the radiation model with the heat conduction solver were developed. It was found that for the same level of accuracy the 2nd order accurate method enables to increase the time step in the transient calculations by a factor of 2.5 times concerning the 1st order accurate implementation. The considered furnace model consists of 29 bottle rows along the length of the furnace and with 15 bottles in each row. The initial temperature of the bottles was taken considering the moulding stage of the manufacturing line. The computational cost of the problem was reduced by considering the 7 rows of bottles in the computational domain. The developed algorithm enables simulation of the heat transfer across all the bottle rows using only a fraction of the entire row inside the furnace. Finally, a parametric study on the effect of the spacings between the bottle rows has been conducted. In this regard, the spacing between the bottles rows and the conveyor speed have been altered in a way that the throughput of the furnace, the number of bottles processes per unit time, is kept constant. The study shows that there is an optimum value for the spacing between the bottle rows. For the considered bottle form, this optimum row spacing value is found to be 35% of the bottle diameter. Geliştirilen dizi işlem yürütücü, algoritma, fırın içerisinde bulunan 29 şişe sırasındaki her bir bardağın ısı transfer mekanizmasını sadece 7 şişe sırası dikkate alınması suretiyle bilgisayar tabanlı benzetimi mümkün kılmıştır. Çalışmada kullanılan şişe şekline mukabil sıra aralığının uygun değeri, şişe çapının yüzde 35'i olarak bulundu
Effect of boronizing and WC coating on the high temperature mechanical behavior of AISI 321 stainless steel
In the current paper, the effect of two different coating techniques of boronizing and tungsten carbide (WC) coating on the room and high temperature tensile behavior of the AISI 321 stainless steel were investigated. Consequently, the fracture morphology observations were conducted via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to inspect the variation of fracture mechanisms after implementing different coating methods. The results of tensile tests at room temperature revealed that despite boronizing reduced the yield strength of the sample due to the softening and grain growth at high coating temperature, the dispersion of boron particles improved the work hardening and ductility of boronized AISI 321. In contrast, the strain to failure of the WC coated sample was decreased due to the fast fracture of the ceramic WC layer at both room and high tensile tests. Furthermore, results of SEM revealed that particle decomposition occured on the fracture surface of the boronized 321 stainless steel represented by dispersed boron particles on the edges of the dimples after failure at high temperature
