Customer-focused aircraft seat design: A case study with AHP-QFD

    No full text
Aviation is rapidly expanding and recovering from the pandemic impact driven by the experience economy. This is particularly subject to interfaces such as the aircraft seats, which are getting intense attention as a differentiator in the cabin. The focal point of this paper is to assess and convert customer requirements into what must be done for an optimum aircraft seat. To achieve this, a 2-step analytic hierarchy process and quality function deployment (AHP-QFD) methodology was successfully applied, consolidating product quality characteristics. Then, it leverages a novel scoring method of interdependencies to isolate dependable design variables. Consequently, safety, weight, and durability scored maximum, emphasizing backrest design and alternative composite materials, while test infrastructure was determined as a critical investment component. Furthermore, it is shown how AHP-QFD can be used for product strategy and strategic portfolio management of R&D projects.Turkish Cabin Interior Inc. ; Tall Clubs InternationalPublisher versio

The populist framing of the Russia-Ukraine war by the Hungarian government: convergence or contestation in the EU

    No full text
This study examines how the Hungarian government frames the Russia-Ukraine War within the context of its relations with the European Union (EU) using discourse historical strand of critical discourse analysis (CDA). This study will also answer how the Hungarian government presents its own policy choices as if the will of the people in its dealings with the EU. The study will conduct an extensive qualitative frame analysis of political discourses produced by Hungarian government officials. Through this analysis, the current study contributes to the literature empirically and advances the debates revolving around crises leading to contestation between the EU and its member states. The performed analysis demonstrates that the war is communicated mainly through the ‘Hungarian (government) lenses’ of national security concerns and national economic interests, both constructed upon nationalist sentiments coupled with populist overtones, leading Hungary to contest the EU’s decisions and norms

Comparative study of credit risk evaluation for unbalanced datasets using deep learning classifiers

    No full text
Credit risk assessment deals with calculating the risk of a loan not being repaid. For this reason, a lot of research effort is directed at credit risk analysis. In this study, machine learning models such as Light Gradient-Boosting Machine and Neural Networks are utilized for credit risk assessment. These machine learning models are trained and tested using The Home Credit Default Risk dataset that was obtained from a competition on the website kaggle.com. Resampling techniques were also implemented to tackle the class imbalance problem in the dataset. Moreover, various preprocessing techniques were also utilized to deal with missing values and outliers in the dataset. The study presents the results of experiments with different parameters and preprocessing techniques and showcases the optimal configuration for the best results. The performance metrics of the machine learning models that are implemented in the experiments are compared to the performance metrics of a baseline system that used the Light Gradient-Boosting Machine model without applying preprocessing techniques

Implementing artificial neural network-based gap acceptance models in the simulation model of a traffic circle in SUMO

    No full text
The impact of various operational and design alternatives at roundabouts and traffic circles can be evaluated using microscopic simulation tools. Most microscopic simulation software utilizes default underlying models for this purpose, which may not be generalized to specific facilities. Since the effectiveness of traffic operations at traffic circles and roundabouts is highly affected by the gap rejection-acceptance behavior of drivers, it is essential to accurately model drivers' gap acceptance behavior using location-specific data. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the feasibility of implementing an artificial neural network (ANN)-based gap acceptance model in SUMO, using its application programming interface. A traffic circle in New Jersey was chosen as a case study. Separate ANN models for one stop-controlled and two yield-controlled intersections were trained based on the collected ground truth data. The output of the ANN-based model was then compared with that of the SUMO model, which was calibrated by modifying the default gap acceptance parameters to match the field data. Based on the results of the analyses it was concluded that the advantage of the ANN-based model lies not only in the accuracy of the selected output variables in comparison to the observed field values, but also in the realistic vehicle crossings at the uncontrolled intersections in the simulation model.Ozyegin University ; C2SMART, a Tier 1 UTC at New York University - USDO

Coevolution index: A metric for tracking evolutionary coupling

    No full text
This paper proposes a new metric, namely the coevolution index (CEI), for measuring the relative evolutionary coupling of modules of a software system. CEI is inspired by the h-index, which is a popular metric used for measuring the productivity and citation impact of scholars and scientists. CEI of a module is equal to n, which is the number of times it is modified together with at least n other modules of the system. We develop a script that can calculate CEI for source files in a code repository. We analyze the repository of 4 software systems. Source files that are subject to a high number of changes to address issues tend to have high CEI scores. CEI also reflects a relative footprint in maintenance efforts by definition. Hence, it can help in tracking technical debt interest and focusing the refactoring efforts for improving maintainability and reusability

Tek atom deneyleri için temel araçların dizayn ve kurulumu

Neutral atoms are one of the most promising systems for quantum information and quantum engineering, in general. Full and efficient control over cold atoms and their interactions with light has been a challenging and exciting task, especially for quantum information and engineering. These systems can now be integrated successfully into the applications like the implementation of a quantum internet, simulation, and experiments involving nonlinear single-photons. Rubidium atoms provide a playground for atomic physics experiments and applications since it has accessible atomic transition and a readily available two-level system. In order to manipulate single 87Rb atoms, experimental tools should be meticulously prepared. Since the atomic quantum states are delicate and fragile, their interaction with light should be handled with care. For the manipulation of these atoms, low linewidth stable laser systems should be constructed to provide an efficient and effective solution. To achieve the required stability, the external-cavity diode laser (ECDL) and frequency modulation (FM) spectroscopy setups are constructed to obtain the low-linewidth, high-stability laser source. Alongside the laser setup, an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) setup is constructed and up to a 2.5 × e−10 mbar vacuum level is obtained. To reach ultra-high vacuum levels, additional baking is performed and Rb atom source is mounted to be readily used. UHV setup is required to minimize the background collisions and decrease the environmental disturbances from the targeted atomic system. Lastly, optical cavities that will be used to manipulate single atoms are computationally studied in this thesis. Although the strong focusing cavities are used to achieve high coupling strength, they come with several disadvantages. Since they are on the edge of the stability diagram, higher-order mode excitation is dominant for the cases where focusing strength is the highest. Therefore, knowing the mode structure is important for those regimes to have a complete understanding of these devices. Together with laser and UHV setups, optical cavities are the complementary part of most single-atom experiments.Nötr atomlar, genel olarak kuantum bilişim ve kuantum mühendisliği için en umut verici sistemlerden biridir.

    No full text
This SIG will provide child-computer interaction researchers and practitioners, as well as other interested CHI attendees, an opportunity to discuss topics related to developing participatory methods to consider the ethics of emerging technologies for children. While the community has extensively debated on ethical issues, we have not had ample discussion of methods to study the ethical implications of emerging technologies. Consequently, we have been largely reactive and have not made significant contributions to public discussions on these topics, leaving these largely to experts from other fields. Our community is well-placed to contribute unique perspectives by leveraging its expertise in participatory methods, combining expert views with those of stakeholders, including children

Photogrammetric model optimization in digitalization of architectural heritage: Yedikule fortress

    No full text
The idea of "digitalization of architectural heritage"has recently gained prominence to represent architectural and historical assets. With all these potentials, this study aims to create optimized models that can be used in serious gaming environments by presenting a method of photogrammetry. As a case study, Yedikule Fortress and its surroundings, which have a multi-layered structure that includes many cultural aspects such as Byzantine, Ottoman, and Republican periods in the historical process, have been studied within the scope of digitizing the architectural heritage to create an optimized model for gaming environments. The study was methodologically constructed in three phases: Photogrammetry, polygon modeling, and low poly/high poly baking process. The fortress and its surroundings are modeled using a high-detail point cloud and a high-poly mesh using aerial photogrammetry. The high-poly model was taken as a reference and transferred into a low-poly model as a mesh map, texture, and light characteristics. This allowed the high poly model to operate more efficiently and effectively in game engines. As a result, the study created a detailed and optimized model for the game engines to produce serious games specific to light and texture data, to be used on devices that support mixed reality (MR) technologies.TÜBİTAKIstanbul Teknik Üniversites
