The inclusion of the term ‘color’ in any racial label is racist, is it not?
Through an examination of the term people of color, this conceptual paper illustrates how the use of historical racial labels in the US, supposedly aimed at denouncing racism, seems to reproduce that which the labels purport to condemn. With a primary focus on Blacks or African-Americans, this paper draws purely on a review and analysis of secondary information to argue that any antiracist agenda that utilizes terms that were associated with historical racism may well be reproducing the racist ideologies that justified slavery and Jim Crow laws. This paper calls for the elimination of the term people of color and related labels from popular usage for the following reasons: (1) the racialized representation of color in historical race relations, (2) the deleterious implications of color for contemporary interracial and intraracial relations, and (3) the misleading universalism and racial divisiveness in the term people of color. These issues are discussed following an introduction and a conceptual framework. The paper concludes with a recommendation of appropriate terms for racial identification

Ugandan Prisons: A Reflection on the Need to Develop an Understanding of Issues that Affect Female Prisoners
t This paper provides a reflection on the need for the prison system in Uganda to develop an understanding of the specific issues that affect female prisoners as a basis for implementing policies and programs that meet their special and unique needs as women. Drawing from vast international literature and few studies from African countries, this paper shows that the need for an understanding of issues that affect female prisoners is based on the fact that the pathway to crime and to prison between female and male prisoners is in most cases different. The paper’s disposition is engendered by two previous studies conducted in female prisons in Uganda. In those papers, a history of multiple victimization among female prisoners, lack of understanding of issues affecting female prisoners together with insufficient programs needed to ease their pains of imprisonment and prepare them for life outside prison was clearly stated. Owing to the pertaining situation inherent with female prisoners in Uganda, this paper recommends that there should be more studies on female prisoners to generate agenda for policy makers and practitioners in the criminal justice system of Uganda. Of specific interest, knowledge on women\u27s multiple forms of marginalization is important for prisons in developing programs that help in reducing not only the various forms of pain associated with imprisonment but also prepare women to re-enter the society that is gendered and patriarchal
Classroom Strategies and First Year Instructors
The first year for an educator can be difficult. Leaming new systems, new teaching tools, and new rules for a particular school district can be daunting for a teacher who is fresh out of college. On the other hand, many first-time instructors have no issues maneuvering these obstacles; however, they fail when it comes to classroom management skills. Finding time for the lesson, students, and themselves is a difficult feat. The focus of this study looks at four distinct andversatile classroom strategies: mastering transitions, fostering and building relationships between students and teachers, utilizing collaboration projects, and establishing a clear classroom routine. Effective classroom management requires awareness, patience and good timing. Thus, if first year educators arm themselves with these four important strategies, they will have all they need to manage a successful classroom and a successful first year.
I. Mastering transitions. A. Smooth transitions will avoid confusion among students which will save class time. B. Instructional strategies used to teach transition skills include; 1. Providing a consistent routine ensuring every transition is smooth and free from disruption, 2. Preparing the students in advance, 3. Observing student follow-through. Make sure you know where they fail, and succeed so you can change your strategy for next time.
II. Fostering and building relationships. A. Students are not defined by test scores, data, or learning objectives because they worth more than that. B. School can be a joyful and exciting place to learn if healthy relationships are Promoted by teachers.
III. Utilizing collaboration projects. A. Working as a team will increase confidence because students will gain support from their group members. B. Collaborative work allows for deeper thinking which enhances problem solving skills.
IV. Establishing a distinct classroom routine. A. Many behavioral issues can be avoided if students are taught properly procedures they should follow in the classroom. B. Routines encourage students to be self disciplined so they are not relying on the teacher\u27s assistance the entire class time. C. Routines allow it to be easier for students to learn and achieve more because classroom time will not be wasted.
V. To have an effective classroom management plan, use these four strategies: master transitions, foster and build relationships, utilize collaboration projects, and establish a clear classroom routine.A. Building relationships with your students will allow you to avoid behavior issues, and research shows that students learn better from each other
The lyophilized aqueous leaf extract of Moringa oleifera blunts streptozocin-induced diabetes in rats through upregulation of GLUT 4 signaling pathway and anti-oxidant effect
The anti-diabetic property of aqueous leaf extract of Moringa oleifera was performed in streptozocin-induced diabetic rats using serum chemistry, histology and immunochemical parameters as indices of diabetes. The blood glucose level of the diabetic untreated group continues to increase while that of the treated group after 21 days decreased. While the animals in the diabetic untreated group experienced increase in the levels of markers of organ damage when compared to the control group (P values \u3c 0.0001). ALT increased from 61.83±1.5 to 96.1±22.4, AST was 225.1±26.6 from 172.6±13.9, ALP 13.5±0.006 to 13.6±0.002, UREA 1.0±0.08 to 3.0±0.4, their reduction was observed in the extract-treated groups. ALT reduced from 96.1±22.4 to 73.70±9.7; AST from 225.1±26.6 to 184.4±18.2; ALP from 13.6±0.002 to 13.6±0.01; UREA from 3.0±0.4 to 2.0±0.4. Treatment with the extract significantly reduced markers of oxidative stress in the kidney [hydrogen peroxide (898.8±6.26 to 688.0±13.7), malondialdehyde (640±0.1 to 600±0.2) and protein carbonyl (548.4±1.5 to 458.1±1.6)]; heart [hydrogen peroxide (389.4±1.8 to 358.2±1.5), malondialdehyde (264.0±0.5 to 122.0±0.3), protein carbonyl (196.8±0.5 to 162.7±3.5)]; and liver [hydrogen peroxide (119.36±3.2 to 103.94±10.7), malondialdehyde (236.0±0.4 to 73.0±0.2), protein carbonyl (269.3±1.0 to 174.2±1.1) respectively. The levels of antioxidants were reduced in the diabetic untreated group but there was increase in the Moringa treated group. Glucose transporter 4 (GLUT 4) was down regulated in the diabetic untreated group while it was well expressed in the treated groups. The histology of pancreas and liver showed varied levels of infiltration of inflammatory cells, congestion and necrotic lesions, but these were mild in the treated groups. The result shows that the extract does have an anti-diabetic effect with the decrease in the levels of blood glucose and markers of oxidative stress as well as increase in the amount of antioxidants in the treated group when compared to the diabetic untreated group. More importantly, the extract caused upregulation of GLUT 4, which is relevant in reversing insulin resistance in the same manner as pioglitazone, the standard antidiabetic agent used in this study
N-element beam antennas system design for wireless sensor node using semi-markov decision process with variable sojourn time
Abstract-The paper presents N-element switchable beam antennas (BAs) system design for Wireless Sensor Node (WSN), in which the operation of the BAs was characterized by semi-Markov Decision Process (SMDP) with variable sojourn time. A matrix-based switching methodology was introduced for selecting an operational BA, based on the received signal power by each BA. Optimal analysis was carried-out to obtain optimal results in terms of the maximum total of sum of discounted reward in current states. Also developed in the study is the methodology for switching a BA from non-operational to operational state and vice-versa. The effectiveness of this switchable BAs system design was tested via numerical analysis implemented in MATLAB software. Numerical results show that this novel approach enables the WSN equipped with BAs to select and maintain an operational BA in receive (or transmit) mode for the entire duration of packets reception (or transmission). The authors found no paper in the existing literature that provides this capability

Pharmacokinetic and Metabolic Profiling of Key Active Components of Dietary Supplement Magnolia officinalis Extract for Prevention against Oral Carcinoma
Among the three key active components (KACs) of Magnolia officinalis bark extract (ME), 4-O-methylhonokiol and honokiol showed higher antiproliferation activities than magnolol in the oral squamous cancer cell lines (Cal-27, SCC-9, and SCC-4). Oral bioavailabilities of ME-KACs were poor (\u3c0.2%) in C57BL/6 mice primarily due to their extensive first-pass phase II metabolism and poor solubilities. High plasma concentration of glucuronides upon oral administration and faster rate of glucuronidation by intestinal microsomes indicated intestine as one of the major metabolic organs for ME-KACs. Despite the increase in bioavailabilities of ME-KACs (∼8-10-fold) and decrease in AUC0-24 of glucuronides (∼10-fold) upon ME solubility enhancement, systemic exposure of ME-KACs failed to improve meaningfully. In conclusion, we propose a quality-controlled and chemically defined ME mixture, containing an optimized ratio of three KACs, delivered locally in the oral cavity as the most promising strategy for ME use as an oral cancer chemopreventive dietary supplement
Non-Maxwellian rate coefficients for electron and ion collisions in Rydberg plasmas: Implications for excitation and ionization
Scattering phenomena between charged particles and highly excited Rydberg atoms are of critical importance in many processes in plasma physics and astrophysics. While a Maxwell-Boltzmann (MB) energy distribution for the charged particles is often assumed for calculations of collisional rate coefficients, in this contribution we relax this assumption and use two different energy distributions, a bimodal MB distribution and a -distribution. Both variants share a high-energy tails occurring with higher probability than the corresponding MB distribution. The high-energy tail may significantly affect rate coefficients for various processes. We focus the analysis to specific situations by showing the dependence of the rate coefficients on the principal quantum number of hydrogen atoms in -changing collisions with electrons in the excitation and ionization channels and in a temperature range relevant to the divertor region of a tokamak device. We finally discuss the implications for diagnostics of laboratory plasmas
