Panel II Discussion: The Anatomy of 1983 Litigation: Best Practices in Successful Civil Rights Litigation
The Civil Rights Act of 1871 is a federal statute, numbered 42 U.S.C. § 1983, that allows people to sue the government for civil rights violations. It applies when someone acting “under color of” state-level or local law has deprived a person of rights created by the U.S. Constitution or federal statutes. It is often the basis for relief when someone has been the victim of excessive use of force or other police misconduct, ostensibly while under the authority generally vested by the state or municipality. The Qualified Immunity defense in 42 U.S.C. § 1983 claims often make them difficult to succeed, in that an element is that the rights were so clearly established that a reasonable officer would have known their conduct was a violation.33 This session of the symposium addressed the following elements of 42 U.S.C. § 1983 litigation: • The Beginning: Client and Forum Assessment, Drafting of the Complaint, identifying available resources, determining whether to join co-counsel and Media • Next Steps: Motions to Dismiss and Understanding Immunities and Pleading Requirements, Discovery (including custom, pattern, policy, and practice, and moving force) and Motions for Summary Judgment • Deciding a Trial Strategy • Jury Selection and Voir Dire (including how to handle jury selection in courts that do not permit voir dire or that permit extremely limited voir dire) • The Trial • Holding onto your Verdic
Role of Social Media in Facilitating Organizational Socialization Effectiveness Among New Hires

Organizational Socialization is the process of inculcating corporate core values and culture in new hires (Jablin,1982). Notably, and contingent upon an organization\u27s vision and aims, integration communication strategies can either be conventional or unconventional, structured, or unstructured. New hires get familiarized, incorporated, and adapted into an organization via a set of corporate procedures. To ease and ensure quick realignment, institutions craft guidelines, tools, structures, and offer mentorships. The processes and assigned support are made promptly accessible to new hires through the transition from pre-entry to entry and post-entry. The transition period is typically from the first six weeks to twelve months of commencement, while the anticipatory phase primarily precedes resumption at institutions. The focus is to develop expectations about the institution; the encounter phase is the initial six weeks of resumption, and it is intended to make sense of unforeseen situations. The metamorphosis phase is completing the encounter phase by the first year. Above all, the core phase is transitioning from new hires to functional members (Yarbrough and Brown, 2003). This research proposal explores and identifies the role of social media in socializing new hires within an institution.

A General Pathological Outlook of COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has been expressed as one of the world’s most fatal pandemics in recent human history, and with good reason. At the time of this writing, over 125 million global cases have been confirmed, with a death toll rate sitting at 2.5 million. From the moment the pandemic was announced globally, the international scientific community sought out to analyze more about the virus in the hopes to find a cure. It should be imperative to analyze this virus in all aspects, including recent treatment efforts. Doing so will allow us to not only understand as to how this virus became an international threat level but let us reflect upon ourselves to understand what needs to be done in the future should another pandemic arise. From what is already known, COVID-19 comes from a family of coronaviruses, which are a type of RNA respiratory illness virus that naturally targets the important airways of the body, including the sinus and lungs. The virus is transmitted through the air in the form of respiratory droplets. The virus is composed of a single stranded RNA with a capsid protein and is shown to have spiky protrusions on its surface, which helps it latch onto host cells and insert its genetic material to replicate. The origin of the virus was believed to be from the city of Wuhan in China, from an animal market that was offering bats. The virus was believed to have then made the jump from animal to human and that was when patient zero was infected. It was noted at the time that there was no definitive cure, so some scientists began recommending alternative drugs like hydroxychloroquine. This drug however become controversial to some, as it was unsure whether the anti-inflammatory effects were truly helpful against COVID-19. With that, many trials were issued to test out how effective hydroxychloroquine was. At first glance, the trial results showed that there was a viral load reduction. However, most of the trials were defined as small and nonrandomized, which brought up concerns as to how valid these results were. Not only that, but the drug itself was linked to cardiovascular problems. From extensive studies later performed by the World Health Organization, they had concluded that hydroxychloroquine is not recommended for treatment of COVID-19. It seemed like hope was losing fast until news of the first vaccine results came around December 2020 by Pfizer. Pfizer’s results were shown to be highly effective against the virus, reporting a near 95% efficacy rate. Later, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson had come out with their results, which also demonstrated high levels of efficacy like Pfizer. From there on out, the FDA authorized the emergency use of all three vaccines in the United States, and the race was on to try and get the whole population vaccinated. Thanks to the efforts of the scientific community, life may finally shift back to normalcy. However, researchers and nations should use this pandemic as a learning lesson so that better advancements can be made to avert a crisis like COVID-29

Hypothesizing nutrigenomic-based precision anti-obesity treatment and prophylaxis: Should we be targeting sarcopenia induced brain dysfunction?
Background: The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) esti-mates a total obesity rate of 30% for 12 states and a 20% obesity rate nationwide. The obesity epidemic continues to increase in spite of preventative measures undertaken worldwide. Pharmaco-logical treatments promise to reduce total fat mass. However, medications may have significant side effects and can be potentially fatal. Data Retrieval: This brief review, based on a PUBMED search of the key terms “Obesity” and” Sarcopenia,” will present evidence to corroborate the existence of Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) in obesity and the involvement of catecholaminergic pathways in substance seeking behavior, particularly as it relates to carbohydrates cravings. Expert Opinion: The genetic basis and future genetic testing of children for risk of aberrant generalized craving behavior are considered a prevention method. Here we present evidence supporting the use of pre-cursor amino acid therapy and modulation of enkephalinase, MOA, and COMT inhibition in key brain regions. Such treatments manifest in improved levels of dopamine/norepinephrine, GABA, serotonin, and enkephalins. We also present evidence substantiating insulin sensitivity enhance-ment via Chromium salts, which affect dopamine neuronal synthesis regulation. We believe our unique combination of natural ingredients will influence many pathways leading to the promotion of well-being and normal healthy metabolic functioning. Sarcopenia has been shown to reduce an-giogenesis and possible cerebral blood flow. Exercise seems to provide a significant benefit to over-come this obesity-promoting loss of muscle density. Conclusion: Utilization of proposed nutrigenomic formulae based on coupling genetic obesity risk testing promotes generalized anti-craving of carbohydrates and can inhibit carbohydrate bingeing, inducing significant healthy fat loss and relapse prevention
Development and validation of a sensitive, specific and reproducible uplc-ms/ms method for the quantification of ojt007, a novel anti-leishmanial agent: Application to a pharmacokinetic study
OJT007 is a methionine aminopeptidase 1 (MetAP1) inhibitor with potent anti-proliferative effects against Leishmania Major. In order to study its pharmacokinetics as a part of the drug development process, a sensitive, specific, and reproducible ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was developed and validated. Voriconazole was used as the internal standard to generate standard curves ranging from 5 to 1000 ng/mL. The separation was achieved using a UPLC system equipped with an Acquity UPLC BEH C18 column (2.1 × 50 mm, 1.7 µm) with 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid in water as the mobile phase under gradient elution at a flow rate of 0.4 mL/min. The mass analysis was performed with a 4000 QTRAP® mass spectrometer using multiple-ion reaction monitoring (MRM) in the positive mode, with the transition of m/z 325 → m/z 205 for OJT007 and m/z 350 → m/z 101 for voriconazole. The intra-and inter-day precision and accuracy were within ±15%. The mean extrac-tion recovery and the matrix effect were 95.1% and 7.96%, respectively, suggesting no significant matrix interfering with the quantification of the drug in rat plasma. This study was successfully used for the pharmacokinetic evaluation of OJT007 using the rat as an animal model
