    Antibacterial and anticancer properties of NiO nanoparticles by co-precipitation method

    Nickel oxide nanoparticles synthesized at room temperature (RT NiO NPs) and 60°C temperature treated nickel oxide nanoparticles (RT60 NiO NPs) were synthesized by the co-precipitation methods. The antibacterial studies performed against set of (gram positive) S.aureus and (gram negative) E. coli bacterial strains showed that the RT60 NiO NPs possessed a greater antibacterial effect as compared to the RT NiO NPs. The cytotoxic effect of the RT NiO and RT60 NiO NPs were examined in cultured (MCF-7) human breast cancer cells

    Vibrational spectra and theoretical calculations of thiocynatobi(pipeidinyl dithiocarbamato)antimony(III)

    The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of thiocyanatobi( piperidinyldithiocarbamate) antimony(III) have been recorded in the region4000-400 cm-1. Utilizing the observed FTIR and FT-Raman data, a whole vibrational assignment and analysis of necessary modes of the compounds were carried out. The optimized molecular geometries, vibrational frequencies were calculated by using Hartree-Fock method with HF/3-21G basis set. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show that charge transfer occurs within the molecules. Also, several thermodynamic properties, Mullikan’s population analysis, first order hyperpolarizabilitiy, several thermodynamic properties and molecular electrostatic potential were done by the HF method

    Bioinformatics is the application of statistics and computer science to the field of molecular biology. The term bioinformatics was coined by Paulien Hogeweg in 1979 for the study of bioinformatics processes in biotic systems. Its primary use since at least the late 1980s has been in genomics and proteomics, particularly in those areas of genomics involving in large-scale DNA sequencing and proteomics in protein structure prediction. Bioinformatics now entitle the creation and advancement of data bases, algorithms, computational and statistical techniques and theory to solve formal and practical problems arising from the management and analysis of biological data. Over the past few decades rapid developments in genomic and proteomics. Research technologies and developments in information technologies have combined to produce tremendous amount of information related to molecular biology. It is the name given to these mathematical and computing approaches used to clear understanding of biological processes. Common activities in bioinformatics include mapping and analyzing DNA and protein sequences, aligning different DNA and protein sequences to compare them and creating and viewing 3-D models of protein structures. The primary goal of bioinformatics is to increase the understanding of biological processes. Bioinformatics is focus on developing and applying computationally intensive techniques (e.g., data mining, machine learning algorithms, and visualization) to achieve this goal. Major research efforts in the field include sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, drug design, drug discovery, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression and protein-protein interactions, genome-wide association studies and the modeling of evolution

    GC-MS analysis of secondary metabolites from the whole plant methanolic extract of DRYNARIA QUERCIFOLIA (L) J. SMITH (Polypodiaceae)

    To investigate the secondary metabolites present in methanolic extract of Drynaria quercifolia (L.) J. Smith (Polypodiaceae). GC-MS analysis of whole fern extract were performed using a Trace GC Ultra and DSQII model MS from Thermo Fisher Scientific Limited. The instrument was set as follows, Injector port temperature set to 250ºC, Interface temperature set as 250ºC, and source kept at 200ºC. The oven temperature programmed as a variable, 70ºC for 2 mins, 150ºC @ 8ºC/min, up to 260ºC @ 10ºC/min. Split ratio set as 1:50 and the injector used was splitless mode. The DB-35 MS Nonpolar column was used whose dimensions were 0.25 mm OD x 0.25 μm ID x 30 metres length procured from Agilent Co., USA. Helium was used as the carrier gas at 1 ml/min. The MS was set to scan from 50 to 650 Da. The results of the GC-MS analysis confirmed the presence of 9 compounds. The most prevailing compounds in this study are Tetrahydroisovelleral, 7, 10, pentadeadiynoic acid (CAS), Phosphoric Acid, octyl diphenyl ester (CAS), Octicizer, Phosphoric acid, 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl ester (CAS), QUERCETIN 7, 3´, 4´ TRIMETHOXY, 1, 30-Triacotanediol, Ergost-5-en-3-ol, (3a´-(CAS), and Lucenin 2 found to have significant medicinal property. It can be concluded that the plant extract show the presence of 9 phytocompounds. The presence of various bioactive compounds justifies the use of the whole fern for various ailments by traditional practitioners

    Impact of ethyl methane sulphonate on M1 attributes of Groundnut with special emphasis of amino acid profiling

    The present investigation was undertaken  to know the effect of EMS on  groundnut cultivar TMV-7 particularly for M1 generation with special reference to amino acids. The healthy and viable seeds of groundnut cultivar TMV-7 were exposed to different concentrations of EMS. The chemical mutagens were screened against groundnut  ranged from 10 to 50mM and sown in the field along with control. The various growth, morphological parameters like percentage of seed germination, survival percentage plant height, number of branches, days taken for flower initiation , total height at time of harvest, root length,  number of lateral roots, number of pods per plant and 100 seeds  weight were decreased with increasing concentrations of EMS. The amino acid analysis also carried out in control, EMS derived M1 plants grown in field. The amino acid contents were  recorded in  both positive and negative tendency.&nbsp

    The investigation was carried out to determine the possible phytochemical components from the methanolic extracts of Garcinia cambogia (fruits) and Ziziphus trinervia (fruits). Among the phytochemical screening of these two plant extracts showed that the plant was rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, saponins and quinones. This study was extended by analyzing the potent bioactive compounds in the methanolic extract of Garcinia cambogia (fruits) and Ziziphus trinervia (fruits) using GC-MS. The analysis revealed that Garcinia cambogia fruits extracts 40 compounds were identified in the fruit methanol extract.     The  ovicidal response  of  selected plant essential  oils  was  evaluated  under  laboratory  conditions against  Aedes aegypti. Three plant oils viz., Abutilon indicum, Acacia nilotica and Acalypha indica were tested for ovicidal response assays at six different concentrations viz., 75, 125, 175, 225, 275 and 325 ppm concentrations.     The knowledge of distribution of ABO and Rh blood groups at local and regional levels are helpful in the effective management of blood banks and safe blood transfusion services. Collecting and monitoring BMI in children and youth is a powerful tool in the effort to improve the overall health of the community. A total of 2395 students are screened for ABO and Rh blood group and BMI. ABO and Rh blood typing results reveal that O group is most frequent and AB is the least frequent groups and 93.98% are Rh Positive while 6.02% are Rh negative. Out of 76 colour blind, 61 are males; 15 are females. The percentage of blood groups in students follows as O> B>A1>A1B>A2>A2B. Results of BMI showed high frequency underweight category, which reflects the nutritional deficiency among the school students

    Ground water samples were collected from different localities in and around Karumandapam area, of Tiruchirappalli District, Tamil Nadu. Ten groundwater samples were collected and analyzed for hydro-chemical parameter such as pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Biological Oxygen Demand(BOD),Chemical oxygen Demand (COD), Calcium(Ca),Magnesium(Mg),Total Hardness (TH), Bicarbonate(HCO3), Chloride (Cl) and Nitrate (NO3) in order to understand the different geochemical processes affecting the groundwater quality. The analytical data were compared with WHO data. The analytical results indicate that the majority groundwater samples are incompatible for drinking purposes. The aquifers of the study area are polluted due to the intersession of sewage are industrial effluents of fertilizers
