The feelings of hospitalized young children expressed by drawings on the Kiwanis Doll®─The significance of supporting the expression of feelings─
Get PDFThe aim of this study was to report on the process by which young hospitalized children express their feelings by drawing on the Kiwanis Doll® and to investigate the significance of supporting the expression of feelings. Data were gathered using a participatory observation method based on the dolls on which the children drew freely. Results show that three young children expressed their feelings by drawing on the dolls. Patient A described a painful enema experience. Patient B expressed itchiness and the desire to return to kindergarten. Patient C, who was blind, was unable to directly express his or her feelings regarding symptoms and care through drawing but came to enjoy the process of drawing and the involvement with others through drawing. The results also suggested that drawing on the dolls was a communication tool to enable young children with insufficient language abilities to express their feelings, to allow them to receive psychological care for painful memories, and to construct good relationships of trust with medical practitioners. Recovery of People with First Episode Psychosis：A Literature Review
Get PDFPurpose：The present study aims to review the literature about recovery of people with first-episode psychosis (FEP), and to obtain suggestions for further research questions. Method：This review was carried out using three electronic databases (Ichushi：Japan Medical Abstracts Society, MEDLINE, CINAHL). Keywords were “first-episode”, “psychosis” or “schizophrenia” and “recovery”. The reference lists of identified studies were searched for additional studies. Results：Of the twenty-four studies, none were conducted in Japan. Fourteen papers used the quantitative method and were analyzed from a clinical recovery perspective. These studies reported recovery rates from 16% to 29%, and had varying recovery criteria. Nine papers used the qualitative method and were analyzed from a personal recovery perspective. These studies revealed experiences of people with FEP regarding their disease and treatment and the promoting/inhibitory factors of a subjective perspective. Conclusion：Further studies are necessary, including those using the quantitative method from a perspective of personal recovery and those that reveal the recovery experiences of Japanese people with FEP.departmental bulletin pape
Dear youth stories are reconsidered-Reading and life experiences-
Get PDFPeople read many books from their childhood. These books include comic books, magazines, fairy-tale stories, and biographies for children. Especially, during the springtime of life, they read so-called youthful stories and get reminded of these stories as dear memories after they become adults.
In this paper, the author takes up ten famous works of youthful stories and classifies them into five categories based on their plots. He recollects his first impressions he received when he fi rst read them and makes his present remarks about them as he reads them today. In conclusion, the first impressions of each work stay unforgettable until now.
As he gains life experiences, he becomes aware of new discoveries and events related to these works. In other words, there could later be life events closely connected to the authors and their works he continues reading. He thinks that this point is most important as a piece of his meaningful advice to young people who read books.departmental bulletin pape

Prevalence of Raynaud’s Phenomenon and Countermeasures for Workers Using an Impact Wrench
Get PDFThe aim of the present study was to clarify an association between the prevalence of Raynaud’s phenomenon in workers using an impact wrench and the effect of various countermeasures to prevent adverse health effects of vibration over a period of 27 yr. The subjects were 704 workers who were regularly using an impact wrench and taking special medical examinations for vibration syndrome in a factory from 1981 to 2008. Practical countermeasures, such as improvement of an apparatus and control of working conditions, were taken twenty times. There were 39 subjects with Raynaud’s phenomenon at least one time during the observation period. The prevalence of Raynaud’s phenomenon decreased after introduction of the improved impact wrench. Thereafter, the prevalence of Raynaud’s phenomenon remained to be about 2–5 % although various countermeasures were taken to keep the working environments warm, reduce the working time, and improve other working conditions. These fi ndings showed that it is necessary to decrease the vibration level of an impact wrench to decrease the prevalence of Raynaud’s phenomenon.departmental bulletin pape
Review of literature on the current situation of simulation education and its effect in basic nursing education in Japan
Get PDFThe purpose of this research is to examine the current situation of education incorporating simulation into basic nursing education through literature and to make it a reference for the future. Fortyfour documents from 1995 to 2016 were examined by using the keyword search with terms like ‘nursing’, ‘simulation’, ‘education’ and ‘effect’ on the central medical journal Web. The annual number of publication was 9 in 2011, followed by 8 in 2014. Furthermore, 27 documents that clarified educational contents and effects were examined, and it was found that simulation education was placed as a part of subject classes, and educational methods such as use of scenario, participation of SP, utilization of simulator, reflection after exercise were listed. As for the educational effects, learning and awareness such as ‘improved motivation to learn’ and ‘acquisition / improvement of practical ability’ were listed but obvious effects were not seen from objective indicators. SP participatory exercises contributed to learning a lot about interpersonal skills etc. The importance of sufficient reflection and debriefing after exercise was also suggested for the effect of the exercise. On the other hand, it became clear that evaluation of simulation education requires examination of more reliable and valid evaluation methods.departmental bulletin pape
Learning of nursing students through children with severe motor and intellectual disabilitiesin the pediatric nursing practice ─ Attention to communication with the pediatric nursing ─
Get PDFThis study aimed to clarify what students learned regarding communication and pediatric nursing when engaging in practical pediatric nursing at a facility for severely multiple handicapped children. The practical training records of 17 students who engaged in practical pediatric nursing at a facility for severely multiple handicapped children were targeted for analysis. Data were coded and classified into “learning related to communication” and “learning specific to pediatric nursing.” Content was categorized while confirming points of similarity and difference. All students consented to the study. One category, “communication,” and five subcategories, including “conceptual understanding” and “attitude,” were identified in learning related to communication. Seven categories, including “views on nursing and children” and “facility environment,” and 18 subcategories, including “aspects that are no different from healthy children” and “characteristics of severely handicapped children,” were identified. Regarding “communication,” students acknowledged “difficulty” while learning about displaying an “attitude” of positivity and wanting to get to know each child, the “necessity of time” in gradually noting the children’s signs, and “methods” of learning from facial expressions and behaviors. Regarding “learning specific to pediatric nursing,” although the students were treating severely multiple handicapped children, practical training did not differ from that in a normal pediatric hospital. This included “aspects that are no different from healthy children”; positive “shifts in their views on pediatric nursing,” such as increased interest in pediatric nursing; and “care to promote development.” However, “pediatric nursing skills” became a future challenge with identification of only one subcategory and

Literature Review of home-nursing and family
Get PDFThis study was “home nursing”and “family ”sample word in database CINII of the National Institute of Informatics for 26 years from 1990 to 2016, and it was conducted based on research, survey, documentation, and original work. In order to clarity the direction of future nursing care and family support about the obtained findings, literature review was carried out. From the literature obtained, we analyzed trends in home nursing research by classifying the transition of the literature before and after the long-term care insurance system.
