No full textEncased in glass, a ship sails in stillness—there are no waves to rock the boat or wind to move the sails. The ship’s journey is frozen, its horizon eternal. The black-and-white tone takes away the distraction of color, revealing something primal: light, form, and remembrance. The glass serves as both a barrier and a lens, distorting yet preserving what once was, allowing the past to softly radiate through to the present.
This image invites reflection rather than instruction. It doesn\u27t inform the eye how to look but respectfully invites a sense of reverence and stillness—a moment suspended between vulnerability and strength. A Proud Protector and a Garden of Color (Standard)
No full textWhat is one to make of a fierce copper creature with savage eyes and a foreboding snarl brooding over a delicate turquoise garden of swirls and floral imagery? Such stark contrast between power and beauty is encapsulated in this extraordinary object. The canine creature sitting alertly in the center of the object provokes a slew of thoughts about his purpose and duty. Perhaps he sits atop a paperweight, awaiting anyone or anything who threatens the papers below. What papers of great importance might he be so intently protecting? Whose grand desk could necessitate such a menacing protector? Why must his base be so intricately designed so as to provide such a deep contrast in his appearance? What relationship does the contrast between this brazen creature and ornate background represent?
These are only a sample of the vast array of questions this object invokes. In photographing it, I sought to allow the viewer the creative freedom to answer these questions in their own heads. The side-by-side arrangement of the photographs invites the viewer to weigh the starkly contrasting images this small object presents. A Seaside Bowl: What the Tide Brought In (Creative)
No full textThis delicate tripod bowl featuring a crystal lattice design stands on three sculpted legs. The fragile nature of this object suggests it could have been used for decorative purposes. It could have also been used to hold jewelry or other goods of high value. While the precise origin and date of the object remains unknown, its Irish stamp on the bottom suggests that it was made during the early 1900s CE. This stamp suggests that it has Irish history and heritage associated with it. In Archives and Distinctive Collections, the bowl was kept with a luminous and pearl-like sphere. Were these pieces designed together?
