    No full text
The goal of this study is to estimate the prevalence of the retromolar in the Egyptian population and to enhance the allocation of the retromolar canals and foramina. Methodology: Using a Newtom Giano HR CBCT system, radiographic evaluation of 250 CBCT scans was performed. According to the manufacturer's guidelines, multiple FOVs were used with the same voxel size (0.3 mm) to produce distinct scans for different patient sizes. The presence of retromolar canal was checked for, using the CBCT scans. Linear measurements were made from the retromolar foramen to the mandibular foramen in an anteroposterior and a mediolateral directions, as well as to the lower second and third molars, and their courses was divided into three basic classes. Results: In this study, retromolar canal was absent in sides 207 (82.8%) while was presented in 43 (17%), absence of retromolar canal was significantly higher than its presence as P<0.0001. Regarding distribution, bilateral side (16.3%) was significantly lower than unilateral distribution (83.7%) as P<0.0001. In class distribution, class A (70%) was significantly the highest, while class C (6%) was significantly the lowest. Conclusion: The prevalence of retromolar canal in the Egyptian population is 17%. When evaluating the retromolar region to identify the presence of the retromolar canal and retromolar foramen to prevent problems after various dental surgical procedures, the use of CBCT is crucial. &nbsp

Test Dimensionality and Conditional Independence of Undergraduate Physics Test Items of National Open University of Nigeria: Perspective from Latent Traits Model (Ltm) Package of R Language

    Get PDF
Physics test items developed by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to measure test-takers' proficiency in Elementary Mechanics, Heat, and Properties of Matter (PHY101) are intrinsically multidimensional. However, we observed the current method used by the University to score test-takers proficiency in the course is premised on Classical Test Theory, which has been criticised in the literature for its limitations, and a measurement model for unidimensional tests. Consequently, using an inappropriate model to model test-takers responses to items would adversely affect their true proficiency in the course. Therefore, this study assessed the dimensionality and conditional independence of physics test items of NOUN using the ltm package in the R language. A non-experimental design of survey research type was adopted. Test-takers responses to the 35 PHY 101 multiple-choice items across NOUN study centres in the 36 States of Nigeria were retrieved from the Directorate of Examination of Assessment (DEA) and used for the study, with empirical reliability of 0.80. Nine hundred seventy-eight test-takers responses were captured and analysed with modified parallel analysis test and Yen Q3 statistics implemented in ltm package of R language software, version 4.0.2. Findings remarked that NOUN physics items had more than one predominant dimension to account for the observed performance of test-takers in the course. Also, residual correlations of ten item pairs severely violated the conditional independence benchmark of 0.20. We conclude that PHY 101 of NOUN is intrinsically multidimensional. Test-takers responses to the test items are due to their locations on multiple latent variables. We recommend that a psychometric unit be established within the DEA of the University to check the appropriateness of the test items developed by the faculty lecturers

Heat Transfer Analysis in Sound-Enhanced Fluidized Beds Containing Geldart B-C Binary Mixtures

    Get PDF
An experimental study was carried out on the binary mixing behaviour of Group C with Group B particles as well as the heat transfer behaviour between the bed and submerged heating tube in an acoustic field. The effects of excessive air velocity, sound pressure intensity, and local and averaged heat transfer coefficient were studied for five binary mixes. Different binary mixture fluidization ratios with and without sound aid are used to compare the results. The study also discusses the measurement techniques used, including pressure measurements and the characteristics of the bed solids. Sand and hydrophilic bituminous coal are used as the binary mixture materials, with different proportions of each. The experiments are conducted both with and without acoustic assistance to compare the outcomes. This study provides insights into the heat transfer behavior and binary mixing in a sound-assisted fluidized bed. The findings indicate that sound assistance has a significant impact on the heat transfer performance of Geldart B-C binary mixtures in fluidized beds. It highlights the potential benefits of using acoustic energy to improve fluidization quality in binary systems

    Get PDF
Background: The application of an IUD to the female after placenta delivery during a caesarean section had several benefits since the female was under anesthetic, which reduced the need for additional manipulation and pain, and the female at the time of delivery had a strong desire for family planning. IUDs placed postpartum experienced numerous disengagements, including bleeding and displacement. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of post placental IUD insertion during cesarean section in 100 patients.  Patient and methods: A prospective study was conducted at obstetrics and gynecology department of Damanhur Medical National Institute in the period from March 2022 to March 2023. Group I: included 52 women who agreed to insert immediate post placental IUD at the cesarean delivery. Group II: included 48 women as control group. The type of IUD used was cupper-T IUD, both groups were assessed as regard to time of cesarean section (CS), amount of postoperative bleeding, postoperative pain, occurrence of infection, any displacement of IUDs, failure of contraception and patients’ satisfaction. Results: In both groups, the demographic information was comparable. The medical histories of the investigated patients and the control group did not differ significantly according to our research. The study group's caesarean procedure took a little longer to complete. There were no appreciable differences between the two groups in terms of infection, puerperal hemorrhage, or IUD displacement. Both groups' satisfaction levels were displayed as either pain or displacement. In the research and control groups, the expulsion rates were 3.92% and 0.00%, respectively. Conclusion: Based on our research, we draw the conclusion that IUD insertion during CS is safe and effective, avoiding the reasons why it can be challenging to insert an IUD after puerperium and having a low expulsion rate; so, it can be considered a standard procedure

    No full text
Restricted hip mobility and flexibility are always associated with increased risk for lower extremity injury and poor athletic performance in female athletes. Reference values for hip motions in female athletes by age and sports are lacking. The primary aim of the study is to document the active and passive range of motion of hip joint among adolescent and adult Indian female athletes. Next, to compare between the sides and age group in the same population. This is a cross-sectional study involving 498 healthy female athletes of age group 15-21 years involved in the high impact sports were conveniently selected for the measurements of hip active and passive range of motion with a Universal goniometer. Participants with recent history of musculoskeletal injury and neurological pain syndromes were excluded from the study. Comparing the baseline values of active and passive range of motion of hip joint, between adolescent and adult female athletes, revealed a significant difference (p<0.05) in both dominant and non-dominant leg except for passive hip abduction (p>0.05). However, adolescents demonstrated higher hip flexion, internal rotation, and external rotation, and adults showed greater hip extension. Active and passive reference values for hip range of motion is documented for South Indian female athletes in relation to age and high impact sports. Future research involving injury prediction, prevention and rehabilitation protocol among female sports can utilize these values
