How to Support Career Technical Instructors to Develop Studentsâ Professional Skills
This 21-page resource from SRI International explains what instructors need to successfully incorporate professional skills training into their technical courses. The report includes several sections that "define professional skills and their importance to technical careers, [...] describe the learning principles and co-development process, and then summarize instructors and students responses to classroom pilot-testing." Seahawk: Technical Report
This 25-page report, provided by Cabrillo College, describes the design and construction of the underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) created by the Seahawk team for the Explorer Class of the 2024 MATE ROV competition. MATE ROV is a global competition that challenges STEM students to build underwater ROVs to complete challenges. The competition is split into the following classes based on build complexity: Explorer, Ranger, Pioneer, and Navigator, and Scout.The report begins with an abstract introducing Seahawk and their ROV followed by a discussion of project management. The Design Rationale section goes into detail on different aspects of the design and construction of the ROV, including control and electrical systems, sensors used, the vehicle structure, and more. Also covered is personal and ROV safety, testing and troubleshooting techniques, and accounting. J ATE (Volume 3, Issue 1)
This resource, published by Portland Community College, is the first issue of the third volume of J ATE. J ATE is a peer-reviewed technical journal focused on community college faculty and staff who work with technician education. This journal is cross-disciplinary and encompasses all technologies under the National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Program. Some of these technologies include: Micro Nano, Biotechnology, Autonomous Technology, Cyber Security, Advanced Manufacturing, Earth Sciences, Agriculture Technology, Energy, and Welding. Doubly Fed Induction Generators (Part 2 of 2)
This video, from Columbia Gorge Community College, is the second of a two-part series on doubly fed induction generators (DFIG). In the video, instructor Jim Pytel introduces the concept of DFIGs and contrasts them with traditional synchronous and induction generators. During the video, Pytel explains how DFIGs operate when the prime mover exceeds synchronous speed. Pytel highlights how the rotors electromagnets rotate counterclockwise to maintain synchronization. The use of bidirectional AC-to-AC converters to allow power extraction from both the rotor and the stator is discussed, along with the efficiency gains at higher speeds.
