Autopoiesis And Organizational Communication: How The Jember Fashion Carnaval Adapts Through Communicative Processes
This study examines the adaptation of the Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC) organization to the dynamic social connectivity of its environment. Utilizing a qualitative approach and digital ethnography, the research analyzes the organization's responses, interpenetration, and adaptation strategies. Findings indicate that JFC demonstrates responsiveness through innovative carnival themes and diverse communication channels. However, limitations arise from programmatic constraints and individual influences within the organization. Furthermore, JFC's interpenetration into various societal sectors, including education, economy, and culture, shapes its policies and decisions. This adaptation manifests in the evolution of fashion design, event concepts, and community-inclusive management. This research contributes to understanding organizational adaptation within a rapidly changing socio-cultural context, highlighting the interplay between organizational systems and their environment. Employing Niklas Luhmann's social systems theory, specifically the concept of autopoiesis, this study offers a unique perspective on how JFC, as an organizational system, maintains its identity while adapting to its surroundings. The results provide valuable insights for the field of development communication and challenge traditional approaches that focus on internal organizational factors by emphasizing the importance of external factors in shaping organizational behavior.
Beyond Resilience in Capacity Building: Harnessing Ordinary Magic to Empower Farmworkers in Babakan Village, Pacet District, Bandung Regency
This study examines the impact of capacity building on the resilience of farmworkers in Babakan Village, Pacet District, Bandung Regency, using a quantitative associative approach. The sample comprised 74 farmworkers from Babakan Village. Data were collected through observations, interviews, literature reviews, documentation, observation guidelines, and questionnaires. The findings reveal a positive and significant relationship between capacity building and farmworkers’ resilience, with capacity building accounting for 74.0% of the variance in resilience. However, both capacity building and resilience remain at moderate levels, indicating a need for improvement. Current capacity-building efforts focus on maximizing resilience but overlook development needs and cultural factors, which undermines the inherent resilience of farmers in facing challenges. The concept of ‘ordinary magic,’ derived from farmers’ long-term experiences and adaptability to change, cannot be fully realized through training-based capacity building alone. A cultural humility model that incorporates cultural aspects into the assessment process is needed to shift capacity building from solely enhancing resilience to fostering broader development.

The Development of Indonesian Press Freedom in the Period of Old Order (1950-1965)
Freedom of the press is a basic principle that affirms that communication and expression through various channels, including publications, must be seen as a right that can be exercised without restrictions. However, during the Old Order period (1950-1965), the condition of the press in Indonesia fluctuated. This research aims to explore more deeply about press freedom in the Old Order era. The method used in this study is a historical method with a qualitative approach. In 1950-1956, the Indonesian press enjoyed a significant degree of freedom, where they could criticize the government through the print media. However, starting in 1956, signs of a decline in press freedom began to be seen, caused by the Old Order government's discomfort with criticism made by the press. In 1958, the government began to control the press by requiring a Printing Permit. When President Soekarno consolidated his power and began the era of guided democracy (1959-1965), press freedom in Indonesia effectively ended. This resulted in the press being under the control of Sukarno's power, although the press succeeded in overthrowing the power after the G30S incident in 1965
Politics Communication Based on Local Cultural Branding: A Critical Ethnographic Study of Cultural Festivals in Lamongan Regency
In 2023, the Lamongan Regency government released a schedule of 39 cultural festivals held from March to December. The Regent of Lamongan's involvement in each event, from the promotional stage, where his image was prominently featured on posters and billboards, to the implementation stage, where he was given a dedicated time and platform to address the public directly, is crucial for examining the underlying message behind these cultural festival programs and the extent to which the local government has developed and successfully implemented a local cultural branding program to promote Lamongan's local cultural wisdom without any political bias. This research aims to uncover the hegemony of power from a political communication perspective through an examination of the cultural festivals held. A qualitative approach using critical ethnography methods positions and embeds culture within a broader symbolic, social, economic, political, and historical context, rather than simply seeking recognition from its members. The research results indicate that cultural festivals serve as a form of political legitimacy by integrating local identity, promoting public participation, protecting heritage, and fostering economic empowerment. Political communication strategies encompass verbal, non-verbal, mass media, digital, and cultural forms, which are integrated to create an image of leadership that cares about regional culture. Future research could focus on countering hegemony through populist practices in festivals, both at the local and national levels. This could include delving deeper into how community groups, artists, cultural communities, academics, and activists construct counter-spaces against the dominant discourses and symbols of power reproduced through festivals
INTEGRASI KONSELING ISLAM DALAM PENGUATAN SELF-AWARENESS UNTUK MEWUJUDKAN KEHARMONISAN KELUARGA
Self-awareness is the primary foundation for building family harmony. Amidst the currents of modernization, rife with social pressures, the influence of digital media, and shifting moral values, many individuals struggle to identify themselves, understand their emotions, and balance them within the family. The method used was a descriptive qualitative literature study, which examined various theories and previous research findings related to the topic. The study's findings indicate that Islamic counseling plays a significant role in fostering self-awareness through a process of spiritual reflection, emotional management, and continuous self-evaluation (muhasabah). Individuals with a high level of self-awareness tend to be better able to understand their strengths and weaknesses, manage psychological stress, and foster empathy for other family members. This contributes to healthy communication, mutual respect, and harmonious relationships within the family. Therefore, Islamic counseling serves not only as a means of psychological healing but also as a comprehensive mental and spiritual training medium. Through Islamic values such as sincerity, patience, and responsibility, this counseling contributes to fostering self-balance and creating a family that is peaceful, loving, and compassionate.

Integration of Circular Economy Approaches and Community Participation in Waste Management Based on Campus-Village Partnerships
Urbanization and rapid population growth in Yogyakarta have significantly increased waste production, ultimately exacerbating the environmental crisis due to the failure of conventional disposal-based management systems. This study explores a circular economy approach in waste management based on a campus-village partnership by highlighting the collaboration between Gadjah Mada University and Sinduadi Village. Using a qualitative approach, this research analyzes the dynamics of waste management, the challenges of policy implementation, and the role of the community in realizing a more sustainable system. The research findings indicate that the implementation of a circular economy in waste management faces challenges such as limited infrastructure, minimal community participation, and lack of coordination among stakeholders. However, with the integration of the ReSOLVE concept and the Quadruple Helix approach, collaboration between academics, government, industry, and society can drive innovation in waste management, resource optimization, and environmental awareness. Campus-village partnerships play a strategic role in building circular-based business models that not only address waste issues but also create local economic opportunities. This research emphasizes the importance of synergy between regulatory policies, monetary incentives, and technological innovations in strengthening the circular economy ecosystem. The implications of this study highlight that the success of transforming the waste management system depends on the sustainability of cross-sector collaboration and active community participation in holistically applying circular economy principles.

ZAKAT IN REDUCING STUNTING: A CASE STUDY OF COLLABORATION BETWEEN ZAKAT INSTITUTIONS AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN BENGKULU CITY, INDONESIA
The national prevalence of stunting in Indonesia declined from 21.5% in 2023 to 19.8% in 2024, according to the Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI). Multisectoral efforts have been continuously undertaken from the national to the local level. This study aims to examine the collaborative mechanism and respective roles of the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) and the Office for Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning (DP3AP2KB) in reducing stunting in Bengkulu City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 11 informants, analysis of policy documents, cooperation agreements, and financial reports, as well as participatory observation in the Pemberian Makanan Tambahan (PMT). The findings reveal that this collaboration is structured through an annually renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that delineates role-sharing. BAZNAS focuses on channeling zakat funds and coordinating the distribution of supplementary nutrition, whereas DP3AP2KB provides beneficiary data, family assistance, and monitoring and evaluation. This pattern not only addresses institutional limitations but also illustrates how the synergy of Islamic philanthropy and local government can reinforce sustainable nutrition interventions. It is recommended that this role-sharing model be institutionalized and replicated at the national level to accelerate stunting reduction targets
Navigating Social Work Field Placements: Barriers and Adaptive Strategies Among Students with Disabilities in Higher Education
Inclusive higher education has become a central agenda in advancing social justice; however, its implementation in professional education-particularly in social work field placements-remains inconsistent. This study examines the barriers faced by students with disabilities undertaking Social Work Field Placement (Praktikum Pekerjaan Sosial, PPS) within the Social Welfare Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Indonesia, as well as the adaptive strategies they employ. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving three students with disabilities and two field supervisors. Thematic analysis reveals that students encounter multiple barriers, including limited mobility, insufficient institutional support from placement agencies, social stigma, and psychosocial stressors. The findings further identify four predominant coping strategies: seeking social support, self-regulation, acceptance and adjustment, and task simplification facilitated through supervisory mediation. Drawing on the Social Model of Disability, this study demonstrates that students’ challenges are primarily produced by non-inclusive field environments rather than individual impairments. Coping Strategy Theory is employed to explain the diversity of students’ adaptive responses to field-based stress and uncertainty. The study highlights that successful field placements for students with disabilities depend on systemic support, responsive supervision, and inclusive field placement design. These findings contribute to international debates on inclusive professional education and offer practical insights for developing disability-responsive field education policies within social work programs, particularly in Global South contexts.
