Outsider: The History of a Life and a Place is a collection of personal essays that juxtapose the fraught racial history of coastal Georgia with the author’s lived experiences growing up there as a disabled and queer Black girl. This thesis reckons with the pain of feeling like a perpetual outsider and also the suffering embedded in the air, land, and water of where the author is from: Brunswick-Glynn County, Georgia, an idyllic place flush with marshes and beaches belying the horrific inequities that fester there—a place where the rich history of Black autonomy and self-determination is concealed in favor of symbols of the Old South and obscured by rampant systemic racism

Knowledge of Relative Energy Deficiency Among Collegiate Athletes
Low energy availability (LEA) can produce negative health and performance effects for collegiate athletes. It is defined as a deficit between the athlete’s caloric intake and the energy expended during competition or training. The body is then unable to support certain physiological functions that are needed to maintain optimal health. One component of the female athlete triad is disordered eating which can result in low energy availability. Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport is an extension of the female athlete triad, created to take a more holistic approach and include male athletes as well. The purpose of this study was to determine collegiate athletes’ knowledge of RED-S including signs, symptoms, and/or education about the condition provided by their athletic trainer. A brief phone interview was conducted to assess the knowledge of RED-S among collegiate athletes, including factors that can contribute to the development of RED-S. The results of this general induction approach, qualitative study revealed the participants were not knowledgeable of RED-S when asked directly. However, when prompted to discuss the components of RED-S such as low energy availability, menstrual function, bone health, endocrine function, metabolic rate, and cardiovascular dysfunction, participants were unable to articulate knowledge of the subcategories in isolation. Given the long-lasting consequences of this condition including but not limited to increased injury risk, decreased training response, impaired judgement, decreased coordination, decrease muscle strength, and decreased concentration, it is important for athletic trainers and the sports medicine staff to educate athletes on this condition and so they are more aware of the signs and symptoms in order to prevent the onset, or catch it early
Correlation Between Pitching Velocity and Plyometric Output
Baseball pitchers are constantly trying to find an edge to operate at peak performance. With many training techniques available intended to enhance performance, plyometrics should be strongly considered as this specific technique mirrors the explosive and ballistic nature of baseball. Plyometrics are defined as powerful muscular contractions after a rapid stretch or dynamic loading of the same muscle group. The purpose of this study was to provide further validation of using plyometrics to increase velocity in a baseball player’s pitch. In this study, a plyometrics exercise (vertical jump) was measured along with pitching velocity in 2 different sessions, separated by 1 month, from 10 Division 2 baseball pitchers. Vertical jump was selected because it is a plyometric movement that can easily be measured and literature supported lower body plyometric exercise has positive implications to total body performance, specifically in baseball. During the month between testing sessions, the players continued their university sponsored team workouts, which had plyometric drills incorporated (box jump drills, lateral hopping stick). The purpose of this study was to assess throwing velocity in baseball pitchers relative to their plyometric output pre and post plyometric exercise intervention. To address the purpose, a paired sample t-test was run via SPSS to determine if the subject with a higher velocity pitch had greater plyometric outcomes. Results showed that there was an increase from the pre- and post-sessions for velocity of 1.3 mph (87.8 (sd= 4.04) and 89.0 (sd=3.05) and vertical jump by 1.1 inch (26.9 (sd=3.47) and 27.8 (sd=3.05). It was also shown that there was a strong correlation between the results of pitching velocity and vertical jump (.988 and .962 respectfully). This study further validated the use of plyometric exercises for baseball pitchers to increase their pitching velocity
Effect of oxygen on the properties of CdSe thin films prepared by RF-sputtering
CdSe has been widely used as an absorber for CdTe solar cells due to its ability to lower the optical band gap of CdTe, enhancing device performances. In this study, the effect of oxygen on the microstructural, morphology, composition and hoptoelectrical properties of CdSe films during sputtering and post chloride treatment has been investigated. CdSe:O film transfers to amorphous as oxygen content exceeds 3% in sputtering ambient according to XRD results. The band gap calculated from optical transmission spectra shows the oxygen content in sputtering ambient could tune the band gap of CdSe film from 1.52 eV to 1.97 eV
Movement, Home Range Size, and Habitat Use of Eastern Black-tailed Rattlesnakes (Crotalus ornatus) in the Northern Chihuahuan Desert
Despite its wide distribution throughout the northern Chihuahuan Desert, extraordinarily little is known about the ecology or behavior of Eastern Black-tailed Rattlesnakes (Crotalus ornatus). The primary literature for Black-tailed Rattlesnakes was largely based on research conducted on the former conspecific (C. molossus); thus, the revalidation of C. ornatus widened the void in our understanding of the species. The aim of this study was to elucidate movement patterns, home range size, and habitat use by C. ornatus in the northern Chihuahuan Desert of far West Texas. Radiotelemetry was used to monitor individual snakes for at least one active season (March–October) from May 2015 through August 2018. Mean (61 SE) home range size for all individuals was 22.84 6 4.49 ha and mean daily distance moved was 9.28 6 0.93 m/d. Male snakes had larger home range sizes, larger core use areas, and greater daily distance moved than did female snakes. On a monthly basis, male movement peaked in August and female movement was statistically similar throughout the active season. Multinomial logit models were used to analyze habitat use patterns of C. ornatus, while controlling for snake, habitat availability, and season. Despite limited availability within snake home ranges, most observations of snakes occurred in arroyos or on rocky slopes. Microhabitat was also used nonrandomly, with snakes seeking cover in rocky refugia or under dense vegetation, rather than in areas containing high proportions of gravel or plant litter. This study presents the first detailed information about habitat and microhabitat use, along with patterns of movement and home range size for the recently revalidated C. ornatus

White Discomforts, Black Burdens
The basis of white innocence is a strong denial of the notion of racism by deniers, as well as a whitesplaining of the very thing whose existence is denied. The racism-is-relative discourse erases institutional racism and is blind to white privilege. It refuses to engage with history. ‘Personal failings’ ignores the reality of systems that have intentionally favoured a certain demographic; it suggests that everyone has equal access to these systems. It is this sort of discourse that has sustained the stereotype of certain demographics as intellectually or physically lazy, and shuts down conversations around equity, which results in more inequity. This paper explores how white innocence and black discomforts contribute to making racism thrive. To be a true ally, white non-racists must intentionally work to be anti-racist too
