Recruitment and Retention in the Choral Classroom
One of the distinguishing elements of a successful, flourishing music program is the number of students enrolled in a performing ensemble. This literature review examines sources that provide answers to a simple question: How can teachers use strategies to improve recruitment and retention in a music program? Music teachers have always worked to improve enrollment and retention of students in their classes, but as we move forward in a world affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, traditional ways of recruiting may not always be successful. Considerations of current trends include lack of foundational relationships between programs and adherence to traditional, unsuccessful recruitment strategies. The literature that was analyzed provided a common theme: teachers must now improve student recruitment and retention in a middle school chorus program through a variety of curriculum changes and teaching strategies. These ideas focus on increasing the number of students involved in the program by adjusting the program to be more culturally responsive and inclusive to all students. All of the sources gathered here encourage sensitivity to student needs and background. The literature gathered encourages teachers to engage in culturally responsive teaching, inclusive strategies, and adjusting class offerings. After adjusting these teaching styles, educators can hope to increase enrollment and improve the quality of instruction provided. By including music reflective of the local culture and encouraging student autonomy, the author would like to assist music teachers to help their students become lifelong music learners and increase program quality
Activity budgets of inland versus coastal Larus argentatus populations in Maine
Comparing the behavior of wildlife populations residing in different habitats can give insight into external factors that influence behavior and explain why certain behaviors are exhibited by a species. In this study, we compared the average activity budgets of Herring Gulls (Larus argentatus) residing around inland and coastal habitats. We hypothesized that gulls in inland settings would be more likely to exhibit inactive behaviors such as loafing and sleeping, while gulls in coastal settings would exhibit more active behaviors such as foraging, walking, and squabbling. We observed a total of 100 individual gulls throughout the state of Maine, with 50 found inland and 50 on the coast. Behaviors exhibited by individuals were recorded in fifteen-second intervals throughout the span of five-minutes, which were then averaged for each population to generate average time budgets for inland and coastal gulls. Statistical analysis revealed that time spent performing loafing, sleeping, walking, and foraging behaviors were statistically different between the two populations while time spent performing self-maintenance, scouting, and anxious behaviors were not statistically different. We found that coastal gulls spent more time foraging, while inland gulls spent more time exhibiting loafing behaviors. Our results support the hypothesis that inland gulls perform inactive behaviors at a higher rate than coastal gulls, and conversely coastal gulls perform active behaviors at a higher rate than inland gulls
Effects of Foam Rolling and Static Stretching on Dorsiflexion of the Ankle Joint
Purpose: To determine whether foam rolling (FR) alone, static stretching (SS) alone, or FR + SS together has the greater acute and long-term effect on range of motion (ROM) in individuals that have limited ankle dorsiflexion (\u3c 20°). Ankle dorsiflexion was of interest because mobility at the ankle has strong implications for reduction of injury and performance enhancement. Background: As most individuals wish to decrease joint stiffness and enhance performance, the most effective method to do so is in question with a variety of mobility techniques available. There are several methods that are useful for improving ROM, with SS being one of the most widely used methods. A relatively new method, FR, is a form of self-myofascial release that has been increasing in popularity over the past few years. Research Design: The FR group foam rolled the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles (calf); the SS group held a wall stretch for both legs; the FR + SS group combined the two. The main outcome of interest was the amount of dorsiflexion obtained from each intervention. Dorsiflexion was measured in two different methods (goniometry & dorsiflexion wall test). Subjects completed 12 sessions over six weeks (2/week for each group). Measurements were taken at baseline pre/post the first session, pre- session two of week 3, pre/post the final session at week 6, and follow-up at week 7. Conclusions: Although there were improvements within each intervention group, there were no significant differences between the intervention groups. These findings imply that each intervention (FR, SS, FR + SS) is just as effective for improving ankle mobility, reducing risk of injury, and enhancing performance

Sneaker Culture has always been around but in the past couple years it has become increasingly popular. Though the idea of customizing sneakers has caused quite a stir in the community with certain brands not wanting people to put their own designs onto a silhouette they created. Customizing is all about adding your own flare to express yourself and controlling how people perceive you.
For as long as I can remember I have always been into two things: art and shoes. So, when I discovered that I could put my own art on my shoes I always wanted to try it. When I decided to do this project for my capstone, I wanted to represent what art is at its core. The Elements of Art are the foundation of any piece regardless of medium which is why they represent what art truly is and can be. Yaacov Agam said “There are two distinct languages. There is the verbal, which separates people... and there is the visual that is understood by everybody”. I believe that the Elements of Art are that visual language that allows everyone to understand art. For each shoe I painted a design that is inspired by the Elements of Art and gives each shoe its own personality.https://kb.gcsu.edu/abundance/1011/thumbnail.jp

The Academic Work-Life Balance of Entry-Level Athletic Training Students and Its Implications
Athletic training students (ATS) have been documented to experience stressors and perceive burnout up to this point in their assimilation into the profession. This is understood through recent work-life balance (WLB) and burnout research within the student population, stemming off research recommendations surrounding the professional setting. However, following current educational shifts and worldwide events, prior research is limited surrounding specific graduate level ATS WLB, stressors, coping responses, and comparisons across ATS demographics. The purpose of this study is to identify this balance in graduate level students and highlight stressors or management techniques that will benefit future students pursuing athletic training education. Two hundred and seventeen ATS from CAATE accredited graduate level institutions across America completed an online questionnaire consisting of demographic information, Velociteach Questionnaire for Self-Assessing Your Work-Life Balance; The DSM-5 Self-rated Level 1 Cross-Cutting Symptom Measure; the Perceived Stress Scale; and the Coping Strategies Ranking instrument. Students in this sample rated their perceived stress as high, compared to previous surveys across ATS that gauged their perceived stress as moderate. This study validated previous literature highlighting differences across sex in the ATS population, finding that female ATS present a significantly higher (poorer) perceived mental health. Not seen in previous research, are the distinctions identified across ATS based on district classification, which suggest ATS WLB is perceived differently across NATA districts. In line with early coping measures research during the COVID-19 pandemic, participants in this study suggested they primarily prefer individualistic coping strategies to manage their stress and promote a positive WLB. These findings suggest that social coping mechanisms like socialization and mentorships should be adapted, in line with previous ATS research, to assist in student management of perceived WLB, mental health, and stress
Increasing the Knowledge of Opioid Use Disorder and Medication Assisted Treatment for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses in Georgia
The national opioid crisis has had devastating effects on the United States (US) healthcare system with the financial burden totaling more than $2 trillion from 2015 to 2018 (White House Government, 2020) and the physical burden of 128 overdose-related deaths daily (Centers for Disease Control, 2020). According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), some of these deaths result from deficits in education of healthcare providers about pain management treatment (CDC, 2020). Improved education for healthcare providers has resulted in a significant decline in the total number of opioid prescriptions from 2016 to 2019, which suggests that successful containment of the opioid epidemic begins with the prescriber (White House Government, 2020). This paper will describe an online training module’s effectiveness in educating Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) about medications used to treat opioid use disorder (OUD)
Integrating Radio Telemetry and Accelerometry to Evaluate the Scale-Dependent Effects of Roadways on the Movement Patterns of Timber Rattlesnakes (Crotalus horridus)
Roadways are among the most widespread and disruptive anthropogenic land use features that influence the behavior and movement of wildlife. Negative impacts such as vehicle-induced mortality, habitat destruction and fragmentation, and the creation of barriers to movement have been well documented across taxa, but the fine-scale behavioral impact of roadways on smaller, cryptic species has yet to be directly examined. Using a novel integration of radio telemetry and tri-axial accelerometry, we evaluated the movement response of Timber Rattlesnakes (Crotalus horridus) to roadways in central Georgia. We quantified individual C. horridus movement and space use with both radio telemetry and accelerometry derived metrics (RT and ACT metrics) across the active season (March–November) in order to investigate the influence of the mean distance to roadways on movement patterns at a broad, annual time scale. To evaluate the behavioral response of C. horridus to roadways at a finer time scale, we quantified RT and ACT metrics during confirmed road interactions (i.e., instances when individual snakes either crossed a road or were detected within 25 meters of a road but did not cross) and compared these instances to the RT and ACT metrics calculated across the remainder of the active season. Relating the annual RT and ACT metrics to the mean Euclidean distance to roadways revealed no significant associations at a broad time scale. However, the evaluation of C. horridus movement behavior during punctuated road encounters revealed that snakes increased both RT and ACT metrics during the road interactions compared to metrics calculated across the remainder of the active season. This might indicate that the abundance of contiguous habitat adjacent to roadways at our study site is serving as an adequate buffer to any long-term shifts in movement behavior, but the potential hidden cost of increasing movement when snakes encounter roads could have negative implications for populations that encounter roads more frequently than those at our site. Although intrinsic factors such as sex and behavioral season (mating and non-mating) have been documented as drivers of variation in pit viper movement patterns, the effects of sex and season were inconsistently expressed in our annual movement models. Overall, integrating radio telemetry and accelerometry and adopting a scale-dependent approach to quantifying movement allowed for a more detailed evaluation of the response of C. horridus to roadways

Univariate and Multivariate Ostrowski-Type Inequalities Using Atangana–Baleanu Caputo Fractional Derivative
In this paper, we obtain some univariate and multivariate Ostrowski-type inequalities using the Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivative in the sense of Liouville–Caputo (ABC). The results obtained for both left and right ABC fractional derivatives can be applied to study further fractional inequalities and estimate various non-local function problems since the operator consists of a non-singular kernel. The obtained results are more generalized in nature
