Circumcentered reflections method for wavelet feasibility problems

    Get PDF
We introduce a two-stage global-then-local search method for solving feasibility problems. The approach pairs the advantageous global tendency of the Douglas–Rachford method to find a basin of attraction for a fixed point, together with the local tendency of the circumcentered reflections method to perform faster within such a basin. We experimentally demonstrate the success of the method for solving nonconvex problems in the context of wavelet construction formulated as a feasibility problem.  References F. J. Aragón Artacho, R. A numerical scheme for non-local aggregation with non-linear diffusion and approximations of social potential

    Get PDF
Aggregations abound in nature, from cell formations to locust swarms. One method of modelling these aggregations is the non-local aggregation equation with the addition of degenerate diffusion. In this article we develop a finite volume based numerical scheme for this style of equation and perform an error, computation time, and convergence analysis. In addition we investigate two methods for approximating the non-local component. References A. J. Bernoff and C. M. Topaz. Nonlocal aggregation models: A primer of swarm equilibria. Hopf bifurcation analysis of a fractional order Holling-Tanner predator-prey model with time delay

    No full text
We study a fractional-order delayed predator-prey model with Holling–Tanner-type functional response. Mainly, by choosing the delay time τ\tau  as the bifurcation parameter, we show that Hopf bifurcation can occur as the delay time τ\tau  passes some critical values. The local stability of a positive equilibrium and the existence of the Hopf bifurcations are established, and numerical simulations for justifying the theoretical analysis are also presented. doi:https://doi.org/10.1017/S144618112200002

Three-dimensional analytical solution of the advection-diffusion equation for air pollution dispersion

    No full text
We develop a new analytical solution of a three-dimensional atmospheric pollutant dispersion. The main idea is to subdivide vertically the planetary boundary layer into sub-layers, where the wind speed and eddy diffusivity assume average values for each sub-layer. Basically, the model is assessed and validated using data obtained from the Copenhagen diffusion and Prairie Grass experiments. Our findings show that there is a good agreement between the predicted and observed crosswind-integrated concentrations. Moreover, the calculated statistical indices are within the range of acceptable model performance.   doi:https://doi.org/10.1017/S144618112200003

Explicit Nordsieck second derivative general linear methods for ODEs

    No full text
The paper deals with the construction of explicit Nordsieck second derivative general linear methods with ss stages of order pp with p=sp=s and high stage order q=pq=p with inherent Runge–Kutta or quadratic stability properties. Satisfying the order and stage order conditions together with inherent stability conditions leads to methods with some free parameters, which will be used to obtain methods with a large region of absolute stability. Examples of methods with rr external stages and p=q=s=r1p=q=s=r-1 up to order five are given, and numerical experiments in a fixed stepsize environment are presented.   doi: https://doi.org/10.1017/S144618112200004
