    Get PDF
The purpose of this pilot study was to compare traditional and TPSR-based physical education instruction on sport skill and personal and social responsibility attribute development in elementary students. Two third grade classes were randomly assigned to either intervention (e.g. Responsibility-Based PE) or traditional PE. The same basketball unit was taught to each class by the same physical education teacher. The intervention class was framed through Hellison?s Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model. To assess the effects of teaching style (responsibility vs. traditional), average baseline responsibility scores and basketball skill scores were compared between intervention and traditional models using independent t tests. All data analyses were conducted on an intention-to-treat basis. There was a significant difference in post-intervention summary scores for TPSR (F = 42.71, p < 0.001). The sub-components of responsibility (selfcontrol, participation, effort, self-direction, and caring) all demonstrated significant differences at post-intervention (p < 0.001). There was a significant difference in post-intervention basketball skills summary scores (F = 11.85, p = 0.01). The passing (p = 0.016) and safety (p < 0.001) demonstrated significant differences at post-intervention. There was no difference at post-intervention for dribbling (p = 0.46) or shooting (p = 0.19). The TPSR-based instruction model produced significant improvements in motor skill development with the added benefit of developing personal and social responsibility skills

The purpose of the study was to find out the effect of abdominal strength training on selected strength endurance and explosive power of women players. To achieve these purpose thirty women players from various games and sports were selected as subjects at random. The age of the subjects were ranged between 17 to 25 years. They were divided into two equal groups and each group consisted of 15 subjects. Group-I underwent abdominal strength training for three days per week for twelve weeks and Group-II acted as control who did not participate any special training apart from the regular curricular activities. The strength endurance and explosive power were selected as criterion variables. The abdominal strength training was selected as independent variable. The selected criterion variables such as strength endurance and explosive power were measured by using bent knee sit-ups and sergeant jump tests respectively. All the subjects of two groups were tested on selected dependent variables at prior to and immediately after the training programme. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analyze the significant difference if any, between the groups on each selected criterion variables separately. In all the cases, .05 level of confidence was fixed to test the significance, which was considered as an appropriate. The results of the study stated that the abdominal strength training had significantly improved the strength endurance and explosive power of women players

The purpose of the study was to find the comparative effect of yogic practices and walking exercises on health related physical fitness among the students of D.C.P.E. Amravati, For this research purpose75 subjects were taken as female students from B.P. E. age ranged 18 to 21 years. The hypothesis is that, there will be no significant difference in HRPF components of yogic practices and walking exercises among the subjects. Thus, the pre test was administered and HRPF components (12 min run/walk, sit & reach, sit ups, body composition) were as criterion measures variables. This is to find out pre test performance of the subjects. The data measured was into three homogenous equal groups (A- yogic practices), (B- walking exercises), (C- control group). There was immediate implementation of six weeks training programme of the both experimental groups, after that post test was conducted. One way analysis of variance as well as on Scheffe?s post HOC test was employed assesses the significant difference. The significant difference was found among yogic practices group in terms of flexibility and abdominal strength. Walking exercises group was more significant difference in cardiovascular endurance, and no change was found in body composition among all subjects

    Get PDF
An adequate supply of oxygen is necessary for normal life activity. Cells use this oxygen supply for oxidative process in the metabolic changes. The enhanced metabolism rates demand more oxygen supply. hence oxygen consumption is an important aspect detecting athletes working ability. Thus, physiological VO2max assessment is the marker of functional state of respiratory, circulatory and metabolic system. The present research was intended to examine the effects of aerobic training on VO2max of 14-16-year-old male adolescents. The total 12 weeks aerobics training indicated variable effects in increasing the VO2max and no changes among the body structural aspect like the height, weight and surface area of the subject are discussed in the present paper
