Supporting the development of a child with autism spectrum disorder – parenting challenges
The role of autistic children’s parents is particularly difficult. Especially in the case of young parents, but also those who know other neurotypical children among their family or friends, and never have experienced such behavioral and speech disorders with a small child. The timing of correct diagnosis of difficult and misunderstood behaviors is very important. There is a lot that needs to be done to find the right therapists (more than one is necessary), to find the verified literature on the subject, and to spend time and observe a child to support them. It is important to organize the space for children, conducive to their learning and development. The parent wants results – a happy, self-reliant child, who can manage in life
Polish speech therapists vs. online work - the research report
Wśród wad pracy zdalnej wskazano: niechęć pacjentów do prowadzenia działań w takiej formie, trudność skupienia (szczególnie u małych dzieci), problemy techniczne. Do zalet pracy zdalnej można zaliczyć: lepsze zaangażowanie rodziców, możliwość współpracy z pacjentami, którym trudno jest dojechać do gabinetu, czy urozmaicenie terapii. The aim of the article is to present the opinions of Polish speech therapists on practicing the profession of speech therapist remotely. The analysis includes the use of technology by speech therapists in 5 areas: prevention, diagnosis, therapy, self-development, cooperation with others (consultations). The research was carried out in 2023 in the form of an online survey. 105 respondents, speech therapists with different professional experience, took part in them. The results show that Polish speech therapists prefer offline work – face to face in the office. In their opinion, the disadvantages of online work were reluctance to conduct activities in this form, difficulty in concentrating (especially in small children), and technical problems. The most important advantages were better cooperation with parents/caregivers, the ability to work with patients who live far from the office and making therapy more attractive
Studium przedstawia Mykołę Ustyjanowycza, Tymka Padurrę, Iwana Frankę (pochodzenia ukraińskiego), Gotthilfa Kohna, Sigfrida Lipinera i A.E. Multiethnic Austrian Galicia was a territory predestinated for translation between the different languages used in this country. This concerned the work of Adam Mickiewicz, leading Polish romantic poet, too. In Galicia his works were translated from Polish into Ukrainian and German as well. The translators, today rather forgotten, belonged to Galician intellectuals be it of Polish, Ukrainian, German or Jewish origin. This article concentrates on persons like Mykola Ustyjanovych, Tymko Padurra and Ivan Franko from the Ukrainian, and Gotthilf Kohn, Sigfrid Lipiner and A. E. Rutra from the Jewish-German side, having been not only translators, but authors and Galician intellectuals in general
Literary intelligentsia during the Russian invasion of Galicia in 1914–1915
Artykuł analizuje działalność galicyjskiej inteligencji podczas rosyjskiej okupacji Galicji w latach 1914–1915. Zwrócono uwagę na postacie Iwana Franki, Mychajłа Pawłyka, Wasylya Stefanyka, Tymofija Borduliaka, Katrі Hrynewyczowej, Marijki Pidhiryanki, Natalii Kobryńskiej i Kostiantyny Malyckiej. Wydarzenia wojenne, z jednej strony, odcisnęły piętno na losach ukraińskich osób publicznych, pisarzy i duchownych, którzy od początku wojny byli poddawani represjom politycznym. Z drugiej strony, warunki reżimu okupacyjnego doprowadziły do zrywu narodowego wśród inteligencji, procesów konsolidacyjnych, promowania efektywnej współpracy, wzajemnego wsparcia i tworzenia ukraińskich ośrodków na wygnaniu lub w obozach internowania. The article analyzes the activities of Galician intelligentsia during the Russian occupation of Galicia in the years 1914-1915. It focuses on figures such as Ivan Franko, Mykhailo Pawlyk, Vasyl Stefanyk, Tymofiy Borduliak, Kateryna Hrynevycheva, Mariia Pidhirianka, Nataliia Kobrynska, and Kostiantynа Malytska. The wartime events left a mark on the fate of Ukrainian public figures, writers, and clergy who faced political repression from the beginning of the war. On the other hand, the conditions of the occupation regime led to a national resurgence among the intelligentsia, processes of consolidation, promotion of effective cooperation, mutual support, and the establishment of Ukrainian centers in exile or internment camps
Losses sustained by the Polish tobacco industry as a result of World War II
Stan posiadania monopolu tytoniowego po zakończeniu wojny w stosunku do okresu przedwojennego wynosił niespełna 65% wytwórni wyrobów tytoniowych i 50% zakładów uprawy tytoniu. Natomiast zestawienie ich zdolności produkcyjnych i wyposażenia technicznego wynosiło w 1945 r. zaledwie 10% w porównaniu z rokiem 1939.The wartime repercussions on the Polish tobacco industry manifested in two distinct dimensions. Firstly, they emanated from the predatory activities of the German occupiers and, to a lesser extent, the Soviet forces. Secondly, the redrawing of post-war borders and the consequent relinquishment of eastern territories by Poland, wherein a substantial contingent of Polish tobacco enterprises were situated, contributed to the industry's losses. These cumulative losses were appraised at over 5 billion pre-war Polish złoty. Direct losses amounted to 154 million złoty, while indirect losses incurred under occupation during the war reached 2,185 million złoty. The latter figure encompassed nearly 3 billion złoty, comprising amortization, the valuation of forfeited production, and the remuneration of the labor force over the 5.5-year wartime period. Amongst the spectrum of pre-war Polish monopolies, the tobacco industry bore the brunt of adversities. The enumerated figures, however, do not exhaustively encapsulate the entirety of losses sustained by the Polish tobacco industry during the course of the Second World War. A multitude of these losses defy precise quantification, exemplified by the marked regression in the cultivation and husbandry of tobacco in Poland attributable to exploitative German economic practices. Additionally, an assessment of losses in skilled laborers, whose lives were forfeited as a consequence of wartime operations, remains elusive. Post-war, the monopoly status of the tobacco industry, relative to the pre-war era, reflected almost 65% retention for tobacco manufacturing facilities and 50% for tobacco cultivation establishments. Notably, the comparative analysis of their production capacities and technical infrastructure in 1945 revealed a mere 10% resilience when compared to the benchmark year of 1939.Niniejszy artykuł powstał w ramach stypendium naukowego sfinansowanego ze środków Instytutu Strat Wojennych im. Peter Kropotkin’s 1902 Mutual Aid theory today
Kropotkin's assertions regarding mutual aid, posited in his seminal work, illuminate a fundamental aspect of social behavior transcending species boundaries. He contended that cooperation and solidarity, rather than mere competition, were integral to evolutionary progress, challenging Darwin's paradigm of survival of the fittest. This perspective underscores the significance of altruism and collective support in the survival and flourishing of diverse communities.
However, in the contemporary milieu characterized by individualism and digital connectivity, the applicability of Kropotkin's theory warrants scrutiny. The proliferation of online interactions has reshaped the dynamics of social relationships, raising pertinent questions about the efficacy of mutual aid in a virtual landscape dominated by self-promotion and egotistic pursuits. The transition from face-to-face to digital interactions has ushered in a new era marked by instant gratification and superficial connections.
Furthermore, the accountability inherent in online engagements adds another layer of complexity to the evaluation of mutual aid in the digital age. As individuals navigate the intricacies of virtual interactions, the extent to which Kropotkin's principles endure amidst the allure of self-interest remains a subject of inquiry. This paper seeks to explore the viability of mutual aid in fostering meaningful connections and promoting collective well-being within the evolving landscape of digital communication
Tożsamość, kreatywność i alienacja w kontekście dziecka i sztuki
The child avoids reflecting judgment on the specifics of what s/he sees because many things can change in the child’s eyes. The importance of exposing children to art early on and helping them to develop an aesthetic sense cannot, therefore, be overstated. Since they can focus on the details because they cannot grasp the whole, children can be excellent artists. However, many children are hesitant to share their creative thoughts and innovations due to the fact that they are concerned about how others might reflect on them. This study was motivated by the experience of writing a story after taking part in art and aesthetic sessions with elementary school pupils in an underprivileged area. There seem to be many similarities between what kids experience in the real world and the virtual one they create. The research’s findings indicate that children’s loneliness, alienation, and identity issues were reflected in their narratives.

Naming types and subtypes of tenement houses in Polish cities
W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono nazwy własne kamienic (57 urbanonimów) z wybranych miast Polski. Opisano je w dwóch zasadniczych typach: jednonominacyjnym i wielonominacyjnym. W obrębie tych typów wyróżniono także podtypy semantyczno-formalne. Wśród wymienionych typów największą frekwencję wskazują nominacje dwuczłonowe, z członem odantroponimicznym (29), według modelu: kamienica (dom lub pałac) + nazwisko (lub imię i nazwisko) posesjonata, np.: Kamienica Klonowica, Dom Kopernika, Pałac Puławskich, Kamienica Jana Starowicza, Dom Jana Matejki. Niektóre urbanonimy motywuje miano lokatora kamienicy, np.: Kamienica Heleny Majdaniec.
This article presents the proper names of tenement houses (57 urbanonyms) from selected cities in Poland. They are described in two basic types: single-denomination and multiple-denomination. Within these types there are also distinguished semantic-formal subtypes. Among the types mentioned, the highest frequency is indicated by two-nominalisation, with an anthroponymic derived component (29), according to the model: tenement (house or palace) + surname (or first name and surname) of the owner, e.g.: Klonowica Tenement House, Copernicus House, Pulawski Palace, Jan Starowicz Tenement, Jan Matejko House. Some urbanonyms are motivated by the name of the tenement’s occupant, e.g.: Helena Majdaniec Tenement House. Among these urbanonyms, constructions distinguishing some ornamental element of the building are also common (28). The predominant nominalisations here are multi-components, containing the preposition under, and the antroponymic or apellative derived component: tenement + preposition under + character term, e.g.: Tenement under Gutenberg, Tenement under Negroes, Tenement under Marriage, and model: tenement + preposition under + term of animal or geometric figure, e.g.: Tenement House under the Rams, Tenement under the Star. There are also urbanonyms containing in their structure an appellative derived name, without the preposition under (10): tenement + appellative derived name, e.g.: Hetman Tenement House, Black Tenement House, The Mint House. It is extremely rare to find nominations with a toponymic derived element (3): tenement (house) + toponym or choronym: Gdansk Tenement, Italian Tenement, Turkish House, and with an component in the function of the proper name (1): tenement + (ideonym) film title: Tenement House Vabank. A foreign name of foreign origin is once attested: Hansa Haus.
The few remaining examples of tenement names (5) do not fit the models listed, e.g.: Herrings Tenements (a group of tenements) also nominations without using the tenement component: Lion’s Castle, Old Convict, Old Mint and a one-component nomination: Beijing. The names of the tenement houses show the various ideas of the namers, which commemorate the names of the house owners, emphasise the beauty of the building or the predilections for exotic elements
Protecting and respecting the rights of people with intellectual disabilities as an expression of respect for their dignity. Incapacitation – selected issues
The article shows the problem of people with intellectual disabilities from the point of view of protecting their dignity in the context of the institution of incapacitation. The human rights-based model of disability presented in the paper generates the need to develop appropriate social attitudes, i.e. attitudes that foster inclusion and eliminate stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination . A key regulation is the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which emphasizes that persons with disabilities have legal capacity on an equal footing with others. In contrast, the institution of incapacitation as applied in practice, also to persons with disabilities, consists of deprivation or limitation of legal capacity. The paper draws attention to the development of solutions in Poland based on the principles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which recognizes autonomy, freedom, and full participation in all spheres of life as fundamental values
