The role of political elites in changing the perception of social threats. The case of Tomasz Kalita and the legalization of medical marijuana in Poland
The article analyzes the impact of the actions of a member of the Polish political scene, Tomasz Kalita, representing the left-wing, on changing the perception of medical marijuana in Poland. It outlines the role of a politician who has used his personal experience of cancer and his media positioning to bring about regulatory change in this area. The article pays particular attention to legislative initiatives for legalizing marijuana for medical purposes and the socio-political perception of this issue in the context of the religious-cultural homogeneity of Polish society. The discussion proves that Kalita has contributed to the redefinition of medical marijuana as a medicine, rather than a drug, in the Polish public debate.
Voluntary labor corps from 1958 to 1992: Formation, organizational structure, and tasks in the light of basic legal acts
Moim celem jest charakterystyka ochotniczych hufców pracy w różnych aspektach badawczych: zwierzchności i struktury organizacyjnej, warunków i metod rekrutacji młodzieży, zakresu obowiązków, zadań i metod działania oraz zasad finansowania (tu: źródeł finansowania i wyposażenia hufców) na tle wydarzeń w kraju. Dolną granicę analizy określa rok ukazania się uchwały Rady Ministrów z 13 czerwca 1958 r. o powołaniu hufców o celach wpisanych w gospodarkę realnego socjalizmu, górną zaś rok wydania rozporządzenia Rady Ministrów z 8 września 1992 r. sankcjonującego dostosowanie hufców do potrzeb gospodarki rynkowej.
Wprawdzie do przełomu lat 80. i 90. XX wieku w programie przeważały treści ideowe nad ekonomicznymi, ale te drugie zajmowały istotne miejsce w wykazie zadań. Potem cele ideowe zostały w ustawodawstwie pominięte.The goal of this paper is to characterize the Volunteer Labor Corps across various aspects: oversight and organizational structure, conditions and methods of youth recruitment, scope of duties, tasks, and methods of operation, as well as funding principles (here: sources of funding and equipment for the corps) against the backdrop of events in the country. The lower limit is defined by the year of the resolution of the Council of Ministers from June 13, 1958, on the establishment of corps with goals aligned with the real socialist economy, while the upper limit is set by the year of the regulation of the Council of Ministers from September 8, 1992, sanctioning the adaptation of the Corps to the needs of the market economy.
The analysis was conducted based on the foundational legislation, thus theoretically. The empirical side was omitted, which is the subject of a separate study. The intention was to indicate the programmatic evolution of the OHP, including the shift in the vision of the organization at the turn of the 90s, and the following few years.
The OHP evolved from 1958 to 1992 under the influence of events in the country. It positively contributed to youth employment policy during the era of the Polish People’s Republic and the Third Polish Republic, despite systemic and economic changes. Indeed, until the turning point of the late 1980s and early 1990s, ideological content predominated over economic content in the program, but the latter occupied an important place in the list of tasks. Over time, ideological goals were omitted in legislation

Modern Songs as an Intercultural Medium of Foreign Language Teaching on the Example of the German Language
The article is primarily aimed at teachers of various languages, who use modern songs in their lessons as phonetic and lexical material supporting the learning of a foreign language (or native language), culture experts, linguists, as well as musicologists and music students, who usually also learn foreign languages and usually like to sing. I would like to draw attention to several aspects concerning teaching languages with the support of broadly understood youth music. One of them is the linguistic competence of teachers themselves, who often do not understand the hidden meaning of the rich phraseology of modern slang, various idioms and language abbreviations that appear in the lyrics of rock and hip-hop songs, as well as cultural phenomena characteristic of a given country, and various social preferences imposed by the environments creating a given style of music. I would like to touch upon, among others, the important issue of vulgarisms, often found in songs (especially in rock and hip-hop lyrics), and propose a method – perhaps somewhat controversial for some, but in my opinion correct – of translating them into the native language, especially when using musical pieces in school lessons. I would also like to convince teachers and students to use dialectal music (Mundartmusik) and draw attention to the practical possibilities offered by contact with musical pieces performed also in other countries where the language being taught is used by its inhabitants as a native language, not just in one. Finally, I would like to present typical methodological errors made by some teachers who use youth music in teaching a foreign language

Endogenous and exogenous factors influencing anti-Müllerian hormone levels in women of reproductive age
Introduction and aim. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is a key marker of ovarian reserve (OR), which declines with advancing reproductive age. Certain pathological conditions can reduce OR or lower AMH levels independently of age, potentially impairing fertility. This study aims to review the scientific literature on factors influencing AMH levels and the causes of diminished OR, including lifestyle, diet, supplementation, pathogenic factors, environmental influences, and genetic predispositions.
Material and methods. This review was conducted using electronic databases, including PubMed and Google Scholar. A comprehensive search was carried out across these databases, covering the period from 2007 to 2024. The inclusion criteria encompass studies on AMH and factors influencing ovarian reserve, that present either quantitative or qualitative data.
Analysis of the literature. The most important factor determining the level of AMH is age. In addition, factors that may influence hormone levels include genetic background, autoimmune diseases, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), environmental toxins, diet, supplementation, oral contraception, physical activity, and smoking.
Conclusion. The causes of reduced OR and abnormal AMH levels remain unclear in many cases. Recommendations for the prevention of pathologically reduced OR include lifestyle modifications, a diet rich in antioxidants, avoiding toxins, refraining from smoking, appropriate supplementation, genetic testing, and regular blood tests
Effects of Ganoderma lucidum (“lingzhi”) supplementation on blood lipids – a systematic review of clinical trials
During the preparation of this work the author used Rayyan software in order to screen the literature and detect duplicates. After using this tool, the author reviewed and edited the content as needed and takes full responsibility for the content of the published article.Introduction and aim. Impaired blood lipid profile is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Supplementation of Ganoderma lucidum (“lingzhi”) has been postulated to have a positive impact on blood lipids. This review aims to evaluate the evidence on this topic.
Material and methods. A systematic search of Google Scholar, PubMed and clinicaltrials.gov databases was performed to identify randomized clinical trials and cross-over trials which assessed the effects of lingzhi supplementation on blood lipids. The gathered data were reviewed and analyzed in accordance with PRISMA guidelines.
Analysis of the literature. Of the 805 records identified in the initial search, a total of 7 studies met all the inclusion criteria and were qualified for the review. None of them reported a statistically significant change in triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, or low-density lipoprotein during lingzhi supplementation. Only 2 out of 7 trials showed a moderate decrease in total cholesterol level.
Conclusion. There is no evidence to support any effect of G. lucidum supplementation on triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein or low-density lipoprotein. Its influence on total cholesterol also remains highly doubtful based on the present systematic review
Impact of caloric restriction on the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in the hippocampus and cortex of a Kindled rat model
Our handling and treatment of the animals adhered to institutional protocols, complying with national regulations (NOM-062-ZOO-1999) and international ethical standards (Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences, CIOMS) study approval number 100/17.Introduction and aim. Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder, and despite numerous treatment options, approximately 30% of patients have drug-resistant epilepsy. This situation prompts the exploration of alternative treatments such as caloric restriction (CR), whose mechanisms of antiepileptic action need to be fully elucidated. One of the key overactivated pathways in epilepsy is the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.
Material and methods. To explore the potential regulatory effects of CR on this pathway, we conducted a study using twen ty-eight male Wistar rats divided into four groups (7 animals each): Control, Sham (20% CR), kindling ad libitum (KAL), and kindling with CR (KCR). Caloric restriction rats received 80% of their daily food intake based on body weight, compared to those fed ad libitum. The kindling model was achieved by the introduction of an electrode in the basolateral nucleus of the amygda la. Immunofluorescence and Western blot techniques were used for the analysis of protein levels (Wnt, β-catenin, GSK3β, and cyclin D) in the frontal cortex and hippocampus.
Results. Electroencephalographically and behaviorally, the KCR group exhibited a shorter duration of seizures and an increased behavioral threshold compared to the KAL group. Protein analysis revealed an increase in Wnt pathway proteins (Wnt, β-catenin, and cyclin D) in the KAL group compared to the control group. In contrast, CR reduced protein levels in animals that were induced to kindling.
Conclusion. These findings suggest that CR may exert its antiepileptic effects through the regulation of the Wnt pathway by inhibiting its activity in the hippocampus and cortex of kindled rats
