Guru Profesional dan Tantangan Dunia Pendidikan
This article deals with professional teachers and challenges they face in the future. The performance of professional teachers demands hardwork to reconstruct their task and responsibility as educators. Nowadays, they bear burn critiques as researches posted them – Indonesian teachers are now in the critical situation. In the implementation of certification project, for example, the certified teachers performances were unlikely to match with students’ success achievement. Research also confined that there were only 21.07 percents of State Elementary school teachers, twenty-eight point ninety-four percents of Private Elementary school teachers, fifty-four point twelve percents of State Junior High school teachers, and sixty point ninety-nine percents of Private Junior High school teachers who deserved to teach. While there were only sixty-five point twenty-nine percents of State Senior High school teachers and sixty-four point seventy-three Private Senior High scholl teachers who deserved to teach.Copyright © 2014 by Al-Ta'lim All right reservedDOI: 10.15548/jt.v21i1.6
Character Education Through the Constructivist Design of Islamic Education Subject at Elementary School Pembangunan Jaya II in Gedangan Sidoarjo
The objective of this study are (1) to determine the meaning of character education in the elementary school of Pembangunan Jaya II of Gedangan Sidoarjo, (2) to identify how the planning of character education through constructivist design on the Islamic education subjects in the elementary school  of  Pembangunan Jaya II of Gedangan Sidoarjo. Observation, in-depth interviews and documentation analysis were used in this study. The finding showed that: (1) elementary school Pembangunan Jaya II in Gedangan Sidoarjo has developed character education. The character education that is developed is  fond of learning character, creative character, independent character and noble, (2) constructivist design that is developed by SD Pembangunan  Jaya II Gedangan Sidoarjo has a component in accordance with the constructivist theory, namely, engage, explore, explain, extend, and evaluate. By the application of habituation based on the constructivist design make the students to have the attitude of eager to learn, creative, independent, and noble character in accordance with the main purpose of the school. Copyright © 2014 by Al-Ta'lim All right reserve
Theses Originality: An Initial Effort to Examine Students’ Final Projects
Thesis is a prerequisite for graduation in all academic institutions. Higher Education institutions, such as Imam Bonjol Islamic State Institute requires its students to write a thesis in order to graduate. Students write their theses and they were examined before the board of examiners. However, students found it difficult to write ‘good’ theses that show academic honesty and high level of originality. This is a big issue in our institution, this article, therefore examines factors that reduce originality of students’ theses. Having analysed over 10 theses using content analysis method, the authors found that almost all theses contain issues that reduces the originality of the theses. Students frequently commit structural plagiarism, in which they tend to follow the structure of their colleagues’ theses, and only made minor changes. Other finding showed that in stating their research problem, students make a claim without appropriate justification. Issues of referencing and paraphrasing are two important issues that reduce qualities of students’ theses
Leadership in Islamic Education Institution
Education institution may not be separated by social system. It can be formal and informal education. A formal education institution such as school, Islamic school or Islamic boarding school is in social environment and bringing a basic value and law from its institution. Meanwhile, Islamic education institution is believed as tool to reach the aim of education. It follows then that good performance of leadership brings about the standard as well as human resources of education. Pengembangan Kepribadian Guru
The close relationship between students and a teacher is psychologically important in the school teaching and learning process. The teacher’s personality and character serves as model and becomes the source of inspiration for the students. The quality of psychological relationship between students and teacher can only be realized if it is supported by teacher’s good personality. It is the quality of teacher’s total attitude and behaviour, and therefore, constitutes the main requirement for optimum teaching and learning process. The original meaning of the term ‘personality’ as quoted from the experts suggests that it is a dynamic organization of psychopysic that determines one’s behaviour, thoughts, and character. Such character and personality can be identified as an individual quality which is manifested through consistence behavioural patterns in respond to the environment. In Islamic point of view, one’s personal behaviour and attitude is determined by his or her obedience to the God alone. Supervision on Transference and Counter-Transference Issues for Undergraduate Students’ Counseling Practice at Counseling Department
Undergraduate students should take 4 credits for counseling practice subject in Counseling Department of State Islamic University of Riau. The subject is taken by seventh semester students who conduct counseling practice at senior high school for 3 months. Based on prelimenary study, majority of students acknowledged that they felt nervous to follow this programme. Thus, the problem of transference and counter transference issue for undergraduate students counseling practice must be answered by their supervisions. The result showed that a total of 93% of respondents had positive transference, while 7% of them had negative one. It means that majority of respondents felt positive transference, while internship students faced identification counter transference. It was proved that internship students did not need to have negative thinking of being rejected by the schools. The finding also showed that 97.3% of interenship students faced identification counter transference, while 2,7%Â of them experienced for unidentification of transfenece. It means that there were a few of them should be supervised to have good counter transference. Supervision format that done by supervisor (university teacher) and tutor (high school teacher) was by conducting monthly meeting and by following up counseling result and writing report. It is recommended that a professional discussion is conducted to discuss problems faced by internship students
