FDTD Analysis Fiber Optic SPR Biosensor for DNA Hybridization: A Numerical Demonstration with Graphene
This article illustrates a design and finite difference time domain (FDTD) method based on analysis of fiber optic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor for biomedical application especially for DNA-DNA hybridization. The fiber cladding at the middle portion is constructed with the proposed hybrid of gold (Au), graphene, and a sensing medium. This sensor can be recognized adsorption of DNA biomolecules onto sensing medium of PBS saline using attenuated total reflection (ATR) technique. The refractive index (RI) is varied owing to the adsorption of different concentration of biomolecules. Result states that the sensitivity with a monolayer of graphene will be improved up to 40% than bare graphene layer. Owing to increased adsorption capability of DNA molecules on graphene, sensitivity increases compared to the conventional gold thin film SPR biosensor. Numerical analysis shows that the variation of the SPR angle for mismatched DNA strands is quite negligible, whereas that for complementary DNA strands is considerable, which is essential for proper detection of DNA hybridization. Finally, the effect of Electric field distribution on inserting graphene layer is analyzed incorporating the FDTD technique by using Lumerical FDTD solution software
Nanostructured Cu2ZnSnS4 Thin Films on Porous-Si Wafer
Nanostructure CZTS thin film was fabricated by electrodeposition technique. To manufacture the heterojunctions, p-type c-Si wafers of (100) orientation were used as a substrate. Before anodization, the surface of the c-Si substrates were etched in an aqueous solution of HF and further washed in distilled water (at temperature of 80°С and ethyl alcohol and then dried in air. The current-voltage characteristics of the CZTS /PS solar cell under dark conditions show that forward bias current variation approximately exponentially with voltage bias. The capacitance for Nano- CZTS /PS Solar Cell decreases with the increase of the reverse bias voltage and with the increasing of etching time of nPS layers. That heterojunctions demonstrate good photo-response in the wavelength range of 510 - 650 nm
Capacity Optimization Based on Energy Storage to Restrain Severe Fluctuation of Wind Power
In order to solve the coordination problem between the economy and the stabilization effect of energy storage system, a capacity optimization model based on energy storage to suppress the violent fluctuation of wind power is proposed, and a multi-objective function with the maximum wind power dissipation capacity and the minimum operating cost of energy storage system is established. Considering the average annual cost and penalty cost of the whole life cycle, an evaluation index with correlation coefficient as the fitting degree is proposed, and the reference power of wind farm grid connection is optimized by particle swarm algorithm. Using the operation data of Qidong Wind Farm in Jiangsu Province, the theoretical validity is verified, the coordination is improved to the greatest extent, and the capacity demand for energy storage system is reduced

Secondly, taking IEEE33 node distribution system with distributed power supply as an example, reactive power optimization of single objective function is carried out to verify that the proposed algorithm has a global convergence and a great advantage in convergence speed. Finally, multi-objective reactive power optimization of distribution network with distributed power supply is carried out. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm
Alternative Biodefensive based on the Essential Oil from Allium sativum Encapsulated in PCL/Gelatin Nanoparticles
The goal of this paper was to develop a biodegradable system containing the essential oil from Allium sativum bulbs encapsulated in PCL/gelatin-based nanoparticles, as well as evaluate its efficiency to control Aedes aegypti Linn. larvae and Cerataphis lataniae Bois. aphids. The essential oil was analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS, and six compounds were identified, representing 93.1% of the total oil. The major compounds were diallyl trisulfide (51.8%), diallyl disulfide (23.2%) and allyl methyl trisulfide (13.6%). The PCL/gelatin-based nanoparticles containing this essential oil exhibited encapsulation efficiency higher than 94%, average particle diameter around 200 nm and zeta potential values about -36 mV. The essential oil presented no antioxidant nor enzymatic activities, so its effectiveness might be explained by the presence of sulfur compounds. The release kinetics of the encapsulated essential oil confirmed the release mechanism by the Fick's Law. About 50% of the encapsulated essential oil was released after 1 h, and about 90% was released after 50 h. This behavior is interesting from the technological point of view since the nanoparticles released as much oil as possible in a short period of time and then the lethal dosages were maintained along the time. Nanoparticles containing the encapsulated essential oil was submitted to in vitro bioassays against A. aegypti and C. lataniae and showed 100% of mortality against larvae and aphids up to 24 h. In conclusion, the essential oil from A. sativum presented effectiveness to be applied in sustainable management of pests in greenhouses, as well as for larvicidal control
Load Transfer Stiffness of Two-layer Roller Compacted Concrete for Pavements
Roller compacted concrete (RCC) is a form of plain concrete pavement (JPCP). RCC is a zero-slump concrete consisting of well-graded aggregate, cement and water. RCC has many advantages over other pavement types, particularly cost and speed of construction. Recently, RCC has undergone many developments mostly directed towards improving quality, including smoothness and durability. RCC now has the potential to combine the performance of concrete with the low cost of asphalt installation. A two-layer system of RCC with different aggregate types and sizes was utilized in this study. This paper presents the determination of load transfer stiffness across induced joints in a two-layer RCC system based on a cyclic shear test. The test was carried out for three different upper layer placement cases with different crack widths and load magnitudes. From the test results, an approximate equation was formulated to predict joint deterioration. It is suggested that this equation provides a useful tool to assist in the design of two-layer RCC pavement and, potentially for other concrete pavement types
2-D Analytical Model for Predicting Magnetic Flux Distribution in Slotless Single-sided Axial Flux Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Machines
This paper estimates the magnetic flux density components in the slotless single-sided axial flux permanent-magnet synchronous machines (SAFPMSMs). For this purpose, a 2-D analytical model based on the sub-domain method is utilized in which the cross-section of the presented machine is divided into the seven sub-regions such as stator side exterior, stator, winding, air-gap, permanent-magnets (PMs), mover and mover side exterior. Based on the Maxwell equations, the related partial differential equations (PDEs) of magnetic flux density components are formed in each sub-region which are identified as the essential step for obtaining the machines quantities. According to the superposition theorem, two separate steps are implemented for calculating the magnetic flux density components. In the first step, open circuit analysis includes various type of magnetization patterns, i.e. parallel, ideal Halbach, 2-segment Halbach and bar magnet in shifting direction is investigated and armature currents are zero and in the second step PMs are inactive and the magnetic flux density components are originated due to only armature reaction. Eventually, 2-D finite element method (FEM) is determined to confirm the accuracy of the presented analytical approach and an acceptable agreement between the analytical and FEM models can be observed
Graphene-MoS2-Au-TiO2-SiO2 Hybrid SPR Biosensor: A New Window for Formalin Detection
In this article, numerically a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor is developed based on Graphene-MOS2-Au-TiO2-SiO2 hybrid structure for formalin detection. This developed sensor sensed the presence of formalin by applying attenuated total reflection (ATR). In ATR method, we developed and observed two characteristics curve, one is “SPR angle versus minimum reflectance (Rmin)” and another is “SPR frequency (SPRF) versus maximum transmittance (Tmax). In the proposed sensor, Chitosan is used as probe legend to perform specific reaction with the formalin (40% formaldehyde) as target legend. Here, graphene and MoS2 both are used as biomolecular acknowledgment element (BAE). And TiO2 as well as SiO2 bilayers are used to improve sensor sensitivity and Gold (Au) is to sharp SPR curve. In numerical results, the variation of SPRF and SPR angle for inappropriate sensing of formalin is quiet insignificant which confirms the absence of formalin. On the other hand, these variations for appropriate sensing is considerably significant that confirms the presence of formalin. At the end of this article, a study of variation of sensitivity of the proposed biosensor in corresponding to the increment of refractive index with a refractive index step 0.01 RIU is measured. In inclusion of TiO2-SiO2 bilayers with Graphene-MOS2, maximum sensitivity of 85.375% more is numerically reported

Stacked multilayers were stratified through a multi-run printing process suitable to produce large-square pattern on flat silicon support. The formation of a multilayer structure was demonstrate through an extended structural characterization of the resulting film. Printed layer morphology was investigated with optical and scanning electron microscopies; atomic force microscopy profiling characterizations were conducted over the entire printed area to evaluate the pattern reproducibility. Finally, a preliminary study as gas sensing film was performed, using the alcohol/ZnO interaction experiments
Using Evolutionary Algorithms to Achieve Sustainable Solutions through Household Appliances
In order to reach a sustainable planet, there is a permanent need by the consumer (decision- agent), to achieve sustainable solutions, with its decisions. Given the importance of the buildings, as a sector to achieve such solutions, as well as the diversity of household appliances existent on the market, with all its different issues, there are several tradeoffs to consider (e.g. energy and water consumption vs initial investment), which difficult the consumer’s choices from the market. The problem increases, since nowadays, the consumer tries to get a solution from the market, with a good compromise between the Economic, Social and Environmental dimensions, and according to its specific needs, which can be different from other consumers. By considering a multicriteria approach, combined with an optimization technique, based on Evolutionary Algorithms (EA), it’s provided a set of sustainable solutions from the market to the consumer that respects the compromise referred before. In this work, it is presented an approach to support a decision-agent (DA) (consumer), by performing a set of sustainable choices based on household appliances from the market and suitable to its needs. Based on the obtained solutions, several savings are achieved (electrical and water consumption, CO2 emissions), by considering the consumer’s relative importance, regarding its Economics, Environmental and Social concerns
