The findings indicate that implementing a culture of shame at MAPN 4 Medan has been effective, though not yet fully integrated. Socialization efforts include moral training, motivational programs, and instilling shame-based cultural values. This initiative aims to build teacher discipline and strengthen moral identity, leading to increased responsibility and professionalism. Positive changes observed include a reduction in rule violations and tardiness. While obstacles like cultural resistance exist, the overall approach of cultivating shame alongside motivation has positively impacted disciplined character and moral identity, fostering greater discipline, responsibility, and professionalism, despite the need for individual awareness

This investigation was undertaken to rigorously analyze the locomotor skill proficiency of students attending SD Negeri 03 Lima Kaum, Tanah Datar. Adopting a quantitative descriptive research design, the study sought to delineate, elucidate, and synthesize the spectrum of conditions and phenomena pertinent to the locomotor abilities exhibited by the student population under investigation. Data acquisition was facilitated through the administration of the locomotor subtest of the Test of Gross Motor Development-Second Edition (TGMD-2), a standardized and validated instrument for assessing fundamental movement skills. A purposive sampling strategy was employed to select a representative cohort of twenty students for participation in the study, ensuring focused data collection relevant to the research objectives. The resultant quantitative data were subsequently subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, specifically percentage distribution, to ascertain the prevalence of varying locomotor skill levels within the sampled population. The findings of this analysis revealed a heterogeneous distribution of locomotor skill classifications among the participants: (1) eight students (40%) demonstrated “Competent” locomotor skills, achieving scores within the 34-37 range; (2) five students (25%) were classified as exhibiting “Moderate” locomotor skills; (3) six students (30%) presented with “Deficient” locomotor skills; and (4) a single student (5%) was categorized as possessing “Inadequate” locomotor skills. The calculated mean locomotor skill level for the entire student sample fell within the “Moderate” classification. This central tendency suggests a potential area for pedagogical focus, indicating the possible necessity for the implementation of targeted interventions designed to enhance the fundamental locomotor competencies of this student population. Further research exploring the underlying factors contributing to these observed skill levels is warranted to inform the development of effective instructional strategies

This study aimed to examine three key areas: (1) whether there was a significant interaction between the application of metacognitive strategies and levels of listening anxiety on students’ listening comprehension outcomes; (2) whether students’ listening performance varied significantly across different anxiety levels namely high, moderate, and low; and (3) the extent to which specific aspects of listening contributed to overall comprehension achievement. Employing a factorial design that included both experimental and control groups, the study engaged sixty participants equally distributed between the two groups. The experimental group, which received targeted instruction in metacognitive listening strategies, demonstrated marked gains in listening comprehension. A significant interaction effect was identified between metacognitive strategy use and listening anxiety, indicating that the effectiveness of strategy application varied with anxiety levels. Notably, within the experimental group, statistically significant differences in listening performance emerged between students with high and low anxiety, as well as between those with moderate and low anxiety—particularly in the domains of identifying main ideas, recalling details, and drawing inferences. Among the assessed listening components, the ability to grasp details proved to be the strongest predictor of listening comprehension achievement, followed sequentially by identifying main ideas, making inferences, and interpreting the overall message

Speaking is a vital yet challenging skill for EFL students, especially in secondary schools, due to limited practice, low confidence, and classroom anxiety. Traditional teacher-centered methods often fail to offer meaningful speaking opportunities. This study, conducted at SMK Sritanjung Banyuwangi using a qualitative descriptive method, explores how Digital Storytelling (DST) based on students’ daily routines can enhance speaking skills, motivation, engagement, and digital literacy. Six tenth-grade students created English video blogs (vlogs) about their daily activities. Data were collected through speaking assessments, open-ended questionnaires, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The results showed notable improvements in pronunciation, fluency, grammar, and vocabulary. DST also boosted students’ creativity, confidence, and motivation while reducing anxiety. Despite initial nervousness and technical challenges, students responded positively, finding DST enjoyable and supportive. Overall, DST provided an engaging, low-pressure environment that encouraged autonomous learning and effective communication

The Tayub tradition in Tegalagung Village, Tuban Regency, is a cultural performance that combines dance, music, and symbolic language reflecting the values and identity of the local community. This study explores how verbal and non-verbal language in Tayub carries social meaning using a sociosemiotic approach. Data were collected through observation and interviews with key cultural actors, including dancers (ledhek), musicians, and elders. The analysis applies Peirce’s semiotic theory and the concept of symbolic interaction to understand how language and signs operate in Tayub performances. Findings show that Tayub functions not only as entertainment but also as a medium of communication, cultural preservation, and social bonding. Verbal elements such as song lyrics and spoken interactions convey messages of love, respect, and tradition, while non-verbal signs like gestures, costumes, and facial expressions carry symbolic meanings that reflect social roles and values. The use of language in Tayub is context-dependent and varies according to the performer, audience, and setting. This study highlights the importance of understanding traditional performances through a linguistic and semiotic lens to preserve their cultural significance and deepen appreciation of local heritage

Social Self-Efficacy Reducing Fear of Missing Out (Fomo) to Improve Life Satisfaction Among Students in Thailand

    Get PDF
The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), which has increased alongside the rapid development of digital technology and social media use, poses a significant psychosocial challenge among university students. FoMO is characterized by anxiety arising from the feeling of being left out of social experiences enjoyed by others, contributing to increased social stress, academic concentration disturbances, and a decline in overall life satisfaction. This study aims to explore the role of social self-efficacy—an individual’s belief in their ability to interact and build social relationships—in reducing FoMO and enhancing life satisfaction among students in Thailand through a community service program conducted by graduate students from the Educational Management Study Program at Universitas Pamulang at Sholahuddin School, Thailand. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through participatory observation, focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, and direct observation of social dynamics during the program. The results indicate that students with high social self-efficacy are better able to manage social pressures and social media expectations, effectively reducing FoMO. Moreover, strengthening real social interactions and local cultural values such as solidarity, harmony, and mutual respect enhances psychological resilience and improves life satisfaction. This study underscores the importance of developing social skills through culturally-based training and community interventions as an effective strategy to support the mental health and psychological well-being of students in a digital era full of social pressures Keywords : Social self-efficacy, Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), life satisfaction, students, social interaction, local culture, psychological well-being, community service, social media
