The Future Delivered: Rethinking Last Mile in the Age of Instant Gratification

This study explains the problems faced in last mile delivery (LMD) and suggests innovative solutions for them. The demand for home delivery services for delivering small package to the customers’ doorsteps has expanded rapidly due to the exponential growth of online shopping. Last mile delivery has now become a key success factor for any business, thanks to the rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT), e-commerce and the COVID-19 pandemic. Final-mile delivery on the very same day as placing the order for a product, has turned out to be a critical success factor for businesses, since modern-day customers have grown new habits and hence new expectations - the expectation of expedited demand fulfillment through door-step delivery of the products they shop online. Though the costliest leg of the supply chain, LMD will always be what creates the competitive edge for the e-commerce. It is necessary for sustenance and success

Bangladesh’s economy is facing significant challenges restricting from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, intensified by its status as an oil-importing nation vulnerable to global oil price fluctuations. This study addresses the current perspectives and challenges which include inflationary pressures, trade imbalances, and disruptions in the supply chain, leading to increased expenditures for essential commodities. This research was developed through a systematic literature review based on secondary data, including online databases, journals, and review papers, etc. This exploratory study reveals that policymakers need to diversify energy sources, forge new trade partnerships, and implement measures to bolster economic resilience. The economic fallout from the conflict, surpassing the actual war in cost, has depleted the central bank's reserves, prompting austerity measures. The forex market experiences volatility, contributing to high trade deficits and the highest inflation rate in recent years. Bangladesh must address forex management challenges and formulate prudent policies for economic recovery. The conflict has disrupted global commodity markets, leading to inflationary pressures and increased costs for businesses in Bangladesh, especially larger organizations handling rising raw material costs and weak consumer demand. The rationale of this paper is to evaluate the literature on this aspect and apprehend the global demand, and supply of food and commodities, economic impacts in Bangladesh, challenges in global trade, trade relations, currency fluctuations, inflation, emergency price, and its consequences, recognize gaps and advocate future research itineraries. The paper offers a synopsis and appraisal of the overall economy of Bangladesh and finally navigates a way forward to the policymakers which would unlock further research to develop this sector

US Presidential Elections 2024: Impact on Supply Chain

This paper examines the contrasting supply chain policies of the Trump and Biden-Harris administrations, emphasizing the implications of their strategies amid the complexities of global economic dynamics. Trump’s "America First" approach prioritized domestic manufacturing through tariffs and trade barriers, attempting to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, particularly from China. However, these measures led to increased consumer costs, strained international relations, and highlighted vulnerabilities in critical supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic. In contrast, the Biden-Harris administration advocates for a resilient, sustainable, and cooperative supply chain framework, focusing on global alliances, significant infrastructure investments, and technological advancements. This administration's emphasis on sustainability aligns with growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly practices, whereas innovation plays a crucial role in adapting to ongoing global challenges. The study explores the lessons learned from the contrasting approaches regarding resilience, sustainability, and geopolitical considerations, emphasizing the need for the U.S. to adapt its supply chain strategies to navigate future uncertainties more effectively. Ultimately, the essay underscores the importance of innovation, collaboration, and sustainability in shaping robust supply chains that not only respond to immediate challenges but also secure long-term economic prosperity and national security in an increasingly interconnected world

Using Dynamic Stability Strategy to Counteract Rapid Changing Demand Considering Deterioration and Partial Backordering

In a real business world, the production plan must respond to quick changing market and keep production line stable. An optimal stepwise production strategy is derived with stable production rate for some period, and then changing to another stable production rate to response market change for the next period. The cost factors we considered in the model include the production setup cost, the production-variation cost, the carrying cost, the deteriorating cost, the backordering and the lost sale shortage cost. For demand that changes linearly or exponentially with time, an inventory model with partial backordering is developed. Finally, sensitivity analysis is carried out to investigate how changing parameters affect this system

Enhancing Supply Chain Management Performance Through E-CRM Implementation

This paper aims to explore practical ways in which Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), considering their limited resources and capabilities, can harness the benefits of E-Customer Relationship Management (E-CRM) to optimize and improve their Supply Chain Management (SCM) performance. An in- depth case study within a family SME demonstrates how E-CRM contributes to improving key elements of supply chain performance, including demand forecasting, inventory management, delivery routes, and returns management. The measured impact on customer satisfaction, delivery punctuality, order processing time, demand forecast accuracy, and inventory costs reaffirms the value of E-CRM in improving overall SCM performance. The contributions of the study include integrating E-CRM and SCM concepts, addressing implementation challenges, and offering valuable guidance for SMEs aiming to improve logistical performance through E-CRM
