Reconceptualizing Computerized Culturally-Based EFL Programs For Scholarship Students

    Get PDF
For decades, English Language teaching materials have been, to a certain extent, neglecting the learner's L1 culture. As computerized programs are often targeting  the largest segment of population possible, teaching materials and textbooks producers do not seem to put the learner's point of reference in focus, especially when it comes to monolingual providers.  Inter-language studies related to computerized EFL programs indicate learners develop hypotheses that do not always reflect the formal usage of the target language (TL). Learners’ hypotheses are based on a variety of input including L1 features, universal developmental patterns affected by overlapping programs, and TL idiosyncrasies not always obvious to monolingual teaching materials producers. Therefore, an attempt to incorporate all important aspects of the learner's L1must be emphasized.  Scholarship students must be exposed to L1 as well as TL culture as early as at the intermediate level, before moving abroad, to ensure Intercultural Competence  (ICC) and Cross-Cultural Competence  (CCC) and effective L2 acquisition and learning.&nbsp

The researchers set out to develop a quantitative research by gathering data principally from sampled respondents from three different technical colleges in Saudi Arabia. Gathered data was tested to determine the significance of ethics of work on employee productivity and job performance. From the survey, two variables were eminent, namely: ethics of work (independent variable) and employee job performance (dependent variable). The study tested several hypotheses, and the results confirmed the positive impact of work ethics on job performance in all three sampled colleges. Results showed a significant difference of impact of ethics of work on different ages, management, religious and educational levels. The older the employee, senior and more educated, the more committed to work ethics and the higher the output. Keywords: ethics of work, productivity, job performance, Saudi Arabi

Medicine, to date, remains as an information intensive discipline since the onset days of practice. Back then, the pearls and nuggets of wisdom were orally passed on from one generation to another as well as through apprenticeship. At the base of health and medicine lies informatics helping to store, access and retrieve humongous amounts of data for patients, conditions and ailments. Today, medicine and health have evolved to breed the present day medical practice built on tenets of electronic health (E-health). The modern trendy milestones enable rapid dissemination of new information such as outbreaks through electronic access to fundamental relevant sources such as electronic journals, shared patient data and other electronic reference websites. In a nutshell, e-health transformed and digitized the world to the benefit of medicine. In as much as having this information electronically available are beneficial, medical practitioners such as doctors are immobilized to workstations, centers andimmobile desktop computers. The next era in e-health involves gaining rapid access to storage and creation of materials in a convenient manner. A fundamental tool to this is a smartphone. On its part, Saudi Arabia has developed a two phased e-health vision achievable by 2020. The word “tourism” had emerged in end of 18th century related with the concept of "grand tour" which is a traditional trip undertaken mainly by upper-class Europeans across the Europe by train. After 1930’s, when labor class get the rights for annual leave and increased automobile ownership, the word had been coincided with the short-term vacations to relaxing geographies such as beachfront, mountain side etc. In time, the host geographies earned a considerable amount of income from these short term vacations and tourism became an input for urban and architectural planning. Thereafter, architects aimed to increase the attraction of the “place” for tourists by using design. Antalya had been one of these centers of attraction after 1980’s. Since then, the city and its architecture have been reshaped on this ambition. In recent decades, this ambition reshaped the east of the city, especially after the area was declared as "Kemerağzı-Kundu Antalya Culture and Tourism Conservation and Development Area" by the Council of Ministers in 03.08.2004. Thereafter, the area has been redesigned for tourism marketing by architectural image production. The aim of this study is to discuss the notion of “created center of attraction” through the famous book of Venturi, “Learning from Las Vegas”.&nbsp

SCIENTIFIC PROOF FOR THE TREATMENT OF CANCER BY NATURAL PRODUCTS; THE IMPORTANT and COMMON SPECIMENS FROM TURKEY

Cancer, is one of the discouraging diseases which make threats human life in our current world. Many searches have been made and are still made, aiming at the etiology and treatment of this deadly disease on life which is also known as abnormal cell proliferation in the organism. That is why, most part of the studies carried out on bioactive plants have been focused on cancer treatment. In recent years, traditional medical practices have become a topic which gains universal importance. Wide interest in “green treatment” and the success of antitumorigenic pharmaceuticals of vegetable origin like taxol, etoposide, vincristine and topotecan designate that this inclination will continue. At the same time, overexploitation of the biosphere means that many plant species are becoming extinct. Deforestation is continuing at an alarming pace and we need to work fast to investigate the areas of high biological diversity before it is too late. Thus strategies need to be developed efficiently exploit the vegetable resources available to us. One way is to combine the rapid chemical and biological screening of plant extracts. Recently, the development of new in vitro approaches for cell culturing and assessment of cellular functions greatly facilitates the screening of natural sources for active constituents and investigations on their mechanism of action. The wide use of such systems may help in reducing animal experiments and in increasing our knowledge about the characteristics, potency, and efficiency of natural products. In light of the significant biological activity and our screening studies, our team has decided to focus on Alkanna, seaweeds, rosemary, blueberry, microalgae, black carrot extracts [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].The obtained extracts alone or in combination with the anticancer drugs may offer a good strategy for the treatment of a variety of human cancers that are resistant to chemotherapy. In light of the findings of these studies, an important step has been taken as far as preparation of biologically obtained, cheap chemotherapeutics to be used in treatment of some cancer types. It is hoped that the results of this study will contribute not only to improve the life quality and navigation of the disease but also the economy of the country by decreasing the consumption of imported therapeutic medicine that is applied to cancer patients and will support chemotherapeutic and radiotherapic treatment effectiveness
