L’elaborazione dei sogni nella psicologia junghiana

    No full text
G. Jung assigned central importance to the analysis of dreams. Dreams provide indications of where development could go, enable renewed interest in life, new experience of meaning, but also indicate what may have been repressed. They regulate emotions, especially in the context of relationships, and are also centrally important for the therapeutic relationship. Jung established a link between daydreams and dreaming at night by referring to the fundamental importance of fantasy (imagination), and its close relationship to complexes, to the dysfunctional, emotional patterns of relating. He postulated that we continue to dream below the threshold of consciousness even when awake – and he related this phenomenon to unconscious complexes. This view is supported by recent neuroscientific research that postulates a continuum between daydreaming and dreaming at night, as well as a relationship to creativity, and can be seen as analogous to Jung’s understanding of imagination and dreaming. For practical work, this suggests perceiving and developing night dreams even more intensively together with imagination and the corresponding emotions, and from there to recognize and experience a new variety of connections with everyday life and current difficulties.

This article deals with two practical forms of current psychoanalytic dream interpretation practiced at the Institute for Continuing Education Psychoanalytic Seminar Zurich (PSZ). It discusses the dream seminars by Fritz Morgenthaler and the dream stations project of the Missing Link team, which consists of members of the PSZ. With his newly conceived dream seminars, Morgenthaler has created an instrument that provides participants with a deeper understanding of a presented dream by interpreting it, but also of the psychoanalytic context in which the dream took place and which is approached within the framework of the seminar. Dreams are even more strongly detached from the psychoanalytic setting at the dream stations, which were set up at various locations in German-speaking Switzerland and into which dreams could be entered in written form to receive a psychoanalytic interpretation, also in written form. In addition to these dream stations, there were also an e-mail address and a hotline where dreams could be submitted. Here, dream interpretation is no longer part of a psychoanalytic setting in practice rooms, but takes place in new virtual ways, to which podcasts will be added at a later date. So the dreams do not come to psychoanalysis, but psychoanalysis comes to them, to everyday life, where they happen.

Human beings are neither good nor evil by nature. The primary and secondary socialisation transform them into the beings they eventually become. Therefore, the category of evil must be subjected to demythologisation. Competitive thinking creates images of enemies. The world is divided into good and evil, friend and enemy, creating identity and a sense of belonging to a group, religion or ethnicity. From these centres of gravity, life becomes a battleground for power and conflicting interests, which force us into an interaction based on stereotypes such as ‹good› and ‹evil›. By contrast, a nonviolent hermeneutic approach can contribute towards empathising with the world of the Other and resolving conflicts amicably.L’essere umano non è né buono né cattivo per natura.
