Lucid dreaming describes a state between consciousness and sleep. It is characterized above all by the dreamer’s awareness, that he/she is dreaming. In a lucid dream the dreamers have the ability to actively interfere with the dream content and to change its course. Through this technique, psychological skills such as perceived self-efficacy and self-control can be strengthened. Lucid dreaming has gained more attention as a research subject in recent years, particularly in neuropsychology. However, little research has been carried out concerning the use of lucid dreams as a treatment approach in psychotherapy. Lucid Dreaming Treatment (LDT) is an innovative treatment approach that shows great potential. Particularly for the treatment of nightmares, for example in the context of post-traumatic stress disorder, promising results with regard to the effectiveness of LDT have already been recorded. Despite increasing evidence of the positive effect of lucid dreams on the psyche, the evaluation of LDT as a psychotherapeutic technique is still at the beginning and further studies are necessary to examine the effect of LDT in more detail.
In spring 2020, the coronavirus spread, which is why the Austrian federal government imposed a so-called lockdown, which required changes at the outpatient clinic of Sigmund Freud University (SFU) in Vienna. Psychotherapists changed settings and continued treatment in the form of online or tele psychotherapy. A research team asked about the effects of the lockdown-induced change of setting to remote treatment and back to the traditional setting after the end of the lockdown on the treatment providers and the clients of the SFU outpatient clinic. To answer the question, online surveys were conducted with clients and psychotherapists at the SFU outpatient clinic and analyzed using summary content analysis. The flexibility of the location and the distance were described quite positively; on the other hand, the latter in particular led to increased feelings of loneliness and isolation among clients; in addition, patients were less able to engage emotionally with the psychotherapy. After returning to the presence setting, the majority of participants reported that it was more pleasant, but said that it was now more difficult to accept the increased time required for travel, waiting time and the journey home compared to the online setting. Overall, it can be summarized that the results of the survey confirm that online or tele psychotherapy does have advantages for some clients and that it can therefore make sense for psychotherapists to continue to offer these options after the pandemic.-Sul cambiamento del setting terapeutico durante la pandemia di Covid-19 All’inizio del 2020 si è diffuso il coronavirus ed è per questo che il governo federale austriaco ha adottato misure come il lockdown, che ha portato a dei cambiamenti presso il Centro Sigmund Freud PrivatUniversität (SFU), Università privata Sigmund Freud a Vienna.
