    No full text
Purpose: This research examines the impact of oil prices, exchange rate, stock market index, market volatility and inflation on the stock market liquidity. Design/Methodology/Approach: The sample period is 20 years from 2000 to 2019 on monthly basis. We employ the auto-regressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach for analyzing long run and short run nature of relationship among variables. We also apply diagnostics including, normality check, serial correlation test, heteroscedasticity test and CUSM models for the stability of the models.  Findings: We finds that exchange rate and inflation have a long-term negative relationship, but oil prices, stock returns, and stock market volatility have a long-term positive relationship with stock market liquidity. Furthermore, these findings are robust under three different proxies of stock market liquidity for three sectors: text composite, textile weaving, and textile spinning. Implications/Originality/Value: This study extend the existing debate on the relationship between macroeconomic variables and stock market liquidity in developed world to the emerging equity market. It also contributes by examining the impact of macroeconomic variables on the sectorial levels in equity market by using three proxies for stock market liquidity including, Amihud liquidity, average trading and trading volume

The Risk and Return Relations: New Evidence from Pakistani Stock Market

    No full text
In this study, we try to answer several empirical questions related to testing of asset pricing models in Pakistan. First, we test the assumptions of capital asset pricing model (CAPM) using cross-sectional regression methodology of Fama and MacBeth (FMB) (1973). Second, we test the conditional relationship between beta and expected returns using FMB cross-sectional regressions. Third, we test and compare the explanatory power of CAPM and Fama and French (1993) three factor models using time-series regressions. For all of the above empirical tests, we use sufficiently large data set of weekly data from January 2006 to December 2018 of non-financial firms listed at the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Results of the cross-sectional regressions suggest that beta cannot explain expected returns. However, there is weak evidence that a conditional relation exits between beta and expected returns. Results of the time-series regression suggest that both CAPM and three factor model do well in explaining expected returns. However, GRS-based test of regression intercepts and regressions R2 indicate that Fama and French model better captures variations in observed stock returns than the CAPM

Purpose: The volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world environment has forced organizational leaders more than ever to adopt new leadership styles in order to bring sustainable changes. This study tends to examine the impact of authentic leadership and symmetrical communication on employees' openness to change. In doing so, the study also illustrates the mediating character of organizational trust.  Design/Methodology/Approach: A self-administrated questionnaire based on a Five-point Likert scale was used to record the perceptions of top-level and middle-level managers from the services and manufacturing sectors of Pakistan. Data were analyzed through Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique in SmartPLS version 3.2.9. Findings: Results of this study reveal that authentic leadership promotes organizational trust among the individuals at the workplace, which further strengthens openness to change. Similarly, symmetrical communication also promotes corporate trust among workers. Interestingly organizational trust has been found a mediating phenomenon in this case.  Implications/Originality/Value: The study adds important insights into the literature and practically provides guidelines to tackle the change management process in organizations. The study implies that in order to perpetuate employees' susceptibility to change, an organization needs to promote authentic leadership.  &nbsp

    No full text
Purpose: The presence of female members on boards is quite enigmatic. Almost every academic author argues that female directors’ contribution in the board room is positive and significant, and their presence, improves organizational performance. This study purpose is to figure out the link between female members and organizational performance. Design/Methodology/Approach: For the purpose, Partial least square method of regression is used to develop the relationship.  The measurement and structural model and theories are used to codevelop the formative constructs. Secondary data is used and collected from Pakistan stock exchange. Those KSE-100 companies are used in which female directors were there in any year from 2005 till 2012. Findings: The results reveal that there was a negative relationship, empirically, which strengthened the notion that female directors in Pakistan are just the cosmetic face of board of directors and more female directors on board hinder the firm performance. Female members on the board had negative impact on the financial measures of return on equity and assets turnover. Implications/Originality/Value: This study is helpful for the businesses in Pakistan to rely and utilize the knowledge, innovative skills and experience of female directors rather than to fill the seat as a regulatory requirement
